HISTORY
The Woodlands has always been a loving and generous community. The township holds a special place in its members’ hearts as the home that raised them. It is a continuously rapidly growing community but still holds true to its roots that were planted over 40 years ago. The township’s outdoor sculpture collection is the largest of its kind for an area of its size. There are 51 sculptures total, some in shopping centers, some out in parks.
We are known for our Lake Woodlands and Woodlands Waterway, Cynthia Pavilion concert center, and some of the best retail shopping, including Market Street. It is in the top 10 safest cities in Texas.
The Woodlands is also known for its extensive parks and recreation, golf, corporate headquarters, schools, places of worship, shopping, dining, hospitality, healthcare, biking trails, and much more. There are 148 parks and 220 miles of bike trails.

George P. Mitchell, a businessman from Galveston, Texas, and the son of an impoverished Greek immigrant achieved his vision of a master-planned community through his founding of The Woodlands. Although The Woodlands was officially established and opened in October of 1974, Mitchell started the process of obtaining its land components in 1964 when he purchased 2,800 acres of land from the Grogan Cochran Lumber Company. This land would become the first piece of property in The Woodlands.
Mitchell was an entrepreneur in the oil and gas industry and is regarded as the “father of hydraulic fracturing.” His vision of The Woodlands was to create an innovative and efficient approach to the idea of urban living. He wished for The Woodlands to feature comfortable neighborhoods amidst the trees and include easily accessible office buildings, parks, shopping centers, and schools. The idea was to create a location that would be an alternative to commuting to Houston for work but also provide a comfortable living. Among these features, he also wished to include preparations and room for its expansion into the community that we know today.

Located on Flintridge drive, the preserve includes several miles of both hiking, and bike trails that will accommodate all of your outdoor needs – also doggie heaven for your pooches.
Texas TreeVentures:
If you are looking to bring your outdoor adventures to new heights, Texas TreeVentures is the place to be. The aerial adventure course includes several challenging obstacle courses strung through the trees of the Rob Fleming Recreational Center. This high-rope obstacle course is perfect for anyone looking for a thrill or challenge.
Swan Boats:
If you’ve ever wanted to ride on a giant swan down a beautiful canal, The Woodlands is the place to do it. Riva Row Boathouse offers pedal swan boats for rental. Spend a day with your friends and family traveling by swan through the upper levels of the Waterway.
Geocaching:
Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which participants use GPS to locate capsules hidden capsules called geocaches. When you find a geocache capsule, sign your name on the log and begin searching for the next. There are over a hundred capsules hidden in The Woodlands area – just download the Geocache app, and begin your hunt.

Layers and a symphony of flavors on this new and fantastic chef special. Schilleci’s already has some of the finest and freshest seafood in town, and this was no exception. Etouffee sauce like someone’s Cajun grandma makes is what you get here.
