Time to Hear from
Our Awesome Team!
There are two types of management styles: custodial and customer-based. Custodial is all about policies and procedures, and customer is, you guessed it, all about the customer. We decided long ago that we wanted the second. This style lets the customer have what they want at a fair price, when they want it, all while being treated with respect. This style also treats employees like customers/clients too! We like this style.
What better way to know our company than to know our employees?!
12 • November 2022 @realproducers
I love the people I work with. We have an incredible group that all really care about each other. We can joke and have fun while still getting our work done.
1. What do you like the best about the company you work for?
Andrew: The people I work with and my relationships with our clients.
Nancy: I like working for my manager, as all I do is laugh! Braden: SHI gives me the support, resources, and experience to allow me to only worry about doing inspections. For the most part, scheduling, payments, continuing education, and, most importantly, customer service are taken care of without me needing to do anything.
Jordan: I like the ever-changing and evolving landscape that allows me to expand my marketing knowledge into many different mediums.
Dan C: I like the variety of different properties we do inspections on.
Sherry: I love the people I work with. We have an incredible group that all really care about each other. We can joke and have fun while still getting our work done. I also appreciate the flexibility I am given with my schedule so that I can take my husband to doctors’ appointments. You would not get that from corporate America. Can we also add that we get the benefit of a four-legged co-worker who keeps us all smiling and hugs each of us when we need a hug? Ok, so she only hugs me and occasionally Nancy.
Trent: The flexibility with schedules for anything from doctors’ appointments to family functions.
Steve: I have been with SHI for over 20 years. I appreciate the consistency of expectations always to be the best. Working out in the field provides something new every day.
Brad: SHI does many things well, but one stands out the most to me. Employees and their family are a priority to SHI, and I love
the flexibility the company provides to allow a work/life balance that works for my family and me.
Wendy: The men out in the field with me are just straight-up good, honest, hard-working guys. A company is only as successful as its hands and feet, and we have the best inspectors around.
Jon B: The people. I enjoy helping people grow and reach their potential while working at a fulfilling job.
Josh: Their commitment to providing thorough home inspections.
Jared: Well, it’s a family-oriented company, and I get to go to work with my friends every day! When your boss says, “love ya!” when she hangs up the phone, you know you have a good job (also, falling asleep in my truck while driving, not really)
Joe: What I like best about the company I work for is being part of one of the best and most exciting parts of the American dream, homeownership. Meeting the people that we are helping with this part of their future and their family’s future is very exciting. Seeing how everyone has their vision of what the perfect home is and how we can help ensure that vision is secured with a thorough home inspection is great. I always enjoy the smiles and expressions I see when I say to our clients, “congratulations on your new home.”
Dan N (the radon man!): I like the reputation our company has with the real estate community.
Chuck: I feel the owners truly care about us as employees and the well-being of our families.

2. In one sentence, describe your company experience.
Jared: I don’t really have a company experience; I have been referred to as the Disney tour guide of home inspections, and I can say that firsttime homebuyers are near and dear to my heart. To be able to share in the experience of buyers owning their first home and walking them through and teaching them about their new home is the greatest feeling. Being a teacher is just as important as being an inspector.
Joe: The training and support from the office and staff are unlike anything I have ever been a part of. I have worked in residential service HVAC, plumbing, and electrical maintenance for 25 years, and the support, training, and cross-checking cannot be matched by any other business in this industry.
Andrew: The best company I have ever worked for.
Nancy: Security home inspections is a YES company. YES to the clients and YES to its employees.
Braden: Fulfilling.
I enjoy working for SHI because every day is different, and there is a constant effort to improve ourselves and our clients’ experience.
Jordan: I went from not knowing what a home inspection was to being disturbingly fascinated by a pool inspection.
Dan C: I have worked for the company for over half of my life and think it is one of the best places to work.
Sherry: It can be a fast-paced environment, but I enjoy the challenge of making sure each customer is given the best experience.
Trent: Since I continually crawl around in crawl spaces, attics, and on roofs, I don’t have to go to the gym.
Steve: I have done residential inspections for 20 years, and I am now enjoying a transition into commercial property assessments.
Brad: SHI believed in me, invested in me, and helped me grow to become something more than I set out to be.
Wendy: Working for Parthenon has been equally challenging and rewarding, and I am proud to call this office home.
Jon B: I’ve grown so much personally and professionally during my time with this company.
Josh: Everyone has been very respectful throughout my time with the company.
Chuck: I enjoy working for SHI because every day is different, and there is a constant effort to improve ourselves and our clients’ experience.
Dan N: I’ve enjoyed my job and the people I work with so much that I’m now into my 33rd year!
We hope you enjoyed getting to know us a little better. We have really great people here at Security, Parthenon, and Castlewall.
We know that you, our clients, and our employees are what makes us successful—our heartfelt thanks.

3. Career volume: plus/minus $14 million
4. Last year’s total volume: plus/minus $6.8 million
Q. How early did you know that you wanted to be a real estate agent?
A. I became interested in real estate sales while working as a commercial real estate attorney many years ago. I worked with brokers on many commercial deals and quickly realized their roles would be a better fit for my personality than the work I was doing as an attorney.
While I enjoyed the subject matter of my legal transactions, I didn’t love being stuck behind my computer screen all hours of the day, and I missed the personal interaction that the real estate agent’s position provides. After staying home with my family for a few years, I decided to go back to work and give that agent life a try. It suits me really well, and I can honestly say I’ve never looked back.
Q. What college did you attend, and what did you study?
A. I am a graduate of Indiana University! As an undergrad, I studied social work and psychology because I love working with people of all backgrounds, and I wanted to dedicate my time to helping those most in need within our society. This is one reason I love working with the FC Tucker Company; as Tucker agents, we are encouraged to “pay our civic rent,” meaning to earn our

place in this community. I stay busy volunteering at my family’s church and school, and as my kids get older and become more independent, I can’t wait to get back to helping out on a broader scale throughout the Indianapolis community.
Q. What are the positives/rewards of what you do?
A. I am very passionate about my work and feel that it is rewarding in so many ways! My job allows me to help my clients find the perfect place for their families to live, and nothing is more gratifying to me than that. Of course, my business also allows me to help provide for my family, and that is an awesome feeling, as well. The flexible schedule that real estate allows is great for me personally, as I strive to put my kids’ and family’s needs first. I also love getting to know my clients on a pretty personal level, and I always feel as though I’m completing each transaction with a couple new friends in my world.

AGENT
Q. What are the negatives/ challenges of what you do?
A. The hardest part of my job lately has been this crazy market. I’ve had a difficult time watching first-time homebuyers throughout the industry miss out on desired properties to investors and cash offers. We’ve all seen our clients disappointed upon learning that they “didn’t get the house” and that another bidder came in stronger or without the restrictions that traditional financing can entail. At the height of the market, many young families were denied the opportunity to own their own homes and to start building equity, which can be a strong foundation for their financial futures. With rising interest rates, demand has cooled somewhat, and I think that’s actually a healthy development. I’m honestly relieved to see the market balancing out a bit in buyers’ favor.
I THINK IT’S IMPORTANT TO ALIGN YOURSELF WITH OTHER HARD-WORKING
PROFESSIONALS AND TO DIVE INTO THE INDUSTRY WITHOUT RESERVATION.
Q. What other interests do you have?
A. When I have some extra time on my hands, I actually love to sew! It doesn’t happen much these days, but when I get a chance to create something with my sewing machine, it’s a really satisfying experience. I also love to ski with my family when we have the opportunity to take a vacation!
Q. What makes your business different from others?
A. I believe one aspect of my business that differentiates me from others is my background as a real estate attorney. I don’t give legal advice, and my law license isn’t active, but I rely on the knowledge and mindset I developed in my legal profession regularly. I am very grateful for that experience, and I hope I can use it to my clients’ benefit in each deal on which I work.
Q. What about your family life today?
A. My family life is nothing if not busy! I have three kids, and they’re all involved in sports and other activities (even the 4-year-old). I’m serving as the PTO president of their grade school this year, so we are always on the go! I truly wouldn’t want it any other way. I know there will come a time when I won’t be overbooked with work, practices, games, PTO meetings and other such commitments, and I will miss these hectic and fun days with my little ones. I want to live in the moment and to soak up these crazy, awesome times with my kids.
Q. What advice would you give to those considering real estate?
A. I would say to those considering real estate that it’s a tough industry to break into, but with thorough training and lots of determination, there is no limit to what you can achieve. I think it’s important to align yourself with other hard-working professionals and to dive into the industry without reservation. I’d encourage all potential agents to keep an open mind about what the job entails and to find your own style as a REALTOR® with time.

Indy Top Producer held its first quarter “I Heart Realtor” event for 2017. Over 150 realtors and partners gathered at The Collection, a fantastic luxury car dealership in Fishers. The guests were treated to a buffet of delicious Middle Eastern food which was catered by the Lava Lounge. The lounge (located at 6308 Guilford Ave in Broad Ripple is considered to be a stylish hookah place
with American and Middle Eastern food that can be shared with friends around TVs and the occasional DJ. Realtors were also lavished with gifts from free oil changes and several gift cards to electronics (Fitbit, Google Home and JBL Bluetooth Speaker) and even two driving experiences that included a Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi R8 on a racetrack, including professional instructions. Thanks to the sponsors and our host for an extremely enjoyable time.

As we are all spending more time at home these days, many homeowners are realizing they either need more space, or a di erent use of space. When you are ready to build the home of your dreams, look no further than Davis Homes.
The Davis Homes team will work with you to design the space that makes the most sense for your routines and lifestyle. Whether you need home o ce space, or student study areas, the exceptionally talented Davis Design Team will work with you to accomplish your needs. The recent opening of an updated Davis Homes Design Studio, in the Keystone Crossing area provides new home buyers the opportunity to view current design features in a comfortable setting with advice from Davis’ expert designers.
IT'S A GREAT TIME TO BUY
“With today’s historically low interest rates, the resulting unprecedented buying power makes it the perfect time to build your brand-new home,” said Klein. Davis Homes works with you to create the home you want within a price range you are comfortable with. The in-house Davis Mortgage Services, along with other preferred mortgage lenders, will tailor nancing to your needs and desires.
BUILDING WITH TODAY'S DESIGN TRENDS
“Today’s more discerning buyers generally want more open designs, taller ceilings, larger windows, larger kitchen islands and gourmet-style cooking ability, walk-in shower spas, outdoor living areas, and in many cases are not as focused on the size of the space, as they are on the style and features within the space. These are just some of the bene ts of building your own new home versus buying an older used home,” Jerrod Klein, V.P. of Sales and Marketing for Davis Homes said.
The Davis Homes team is also focused on today’s exterior design desires, such as Craftsman, Modern Prairie, Modern Farmhouse, and other modern twists on more traditional architecture.
YOUR HOME IS IN GOOD HANDS
Davis Homes is a local, family-owned builder currently building On Your Lot Custom Homes throughout Central Indiana, as well as building new homes in numerous custom communities in Indianapolis and the surrounding area.
“We are proud to have become Central Indiana’s largest On Your Lot home builder. Our niche of providing a ordable customized building, with a focus on great value to our clients, has resulted in record sales and growing demand for our services. This has resulted in us expanding our o ering to even higher new home price points. We now serve customer needs from the $300,000 range, to over one million,” said President and CEO Brad Davis, a third-generation builder.
Davis says his experienced team will lead you through all aspects of the home building process. From land assessment or helping you nd the perfect lot, to designing the home and working with you on the features most important to you, to the last home inspection, you and your home are in good hands. Whether you dream of building on your own lot or in a beautiful planned community, contact Davis Homes online at DavisHomes.com to discuss building your custom home.

By Kelsey Shidler
DYKES
CARPENTER REALTORS, INC.
Don’t Make Real Estate Your Primary Focus
When asked to share his expert advice to other Realtors, Chris Dykes says, “Don’t make Real Estate your primary focus.” Before you get confused, hear him out. Chris’ unique story and rise in the business has given him this inspiration to share. “You have to have a greater purpose than selling a certain amount of real estate, making a certain amount of money, or your ranking in the marketplace.”
Chris grew up in the Chicago area, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa, and earned a Masters in Management from Northwestern University in Chicago. He gets much of his inspiration from childhood heroes. His Father immigrated from Scotland while in his early twenties to begin his medical career. He was instrumental in establishing some new protocols for Anesthesiology in the US in the 1960’s, and he finished his career teaching medical school students in Chicago. He lived a full life but was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1989 and died in 1990 at the age of 58 (just two years older than Chris is now).
Following his father’s death, Chris spent his twenties and thirties feeling lost and alone in many ways. That was when he found an amazing family of friends through his church – East 91st Street Christian Church, which
gave him grounding and prepared him to be ready to meet and marry his wife, Shari.
During this time of reestablishing his purpose in life, Chris began purchasing homes to live in, which turned into rentals. When he moved to Indy, he did a 1031 exchange by selling his rental condo in Evanston and buying two single family homes here. That turned into five homes with a goal of purchasing more. In 2002, he obtained his real estate license with the goal of finding more investment opportunities. Chris was referred to Carpenter and went through an intensive, three-week training program with Amy Englert. From the moment of landing his first listing client, he was hooked on helping people buy and sell their homes.
Shortly after becoming the manager of Carpenter’s Broad Ripple Office in 2005, and while Shari was pregnant with their second daughter, Chris was diagnosed with Stage 2 Esophageal Cancer. The doctors found a tumor where the esophagus meets the stomach and had to remove the lower portion of his esophagus and the top of his stomach. He then began a four-month rotation of radiation treatments and chemotherapy.

The three partners at the Edwards Realty Group are a true trifecta for real estate effectiveness. They are fun and driven, and it is easy to see why clients enjoy them and see them as stellar effective. They each play to their strengths, but they exude an energy and synergy that makes their collaboration powerful. At the end of the day, they are fulfilled when clients tell them that they have successfully navigated them to their new home.
In 2016, Robbin and Jane worked at the same agency, but they began to realize that they would be better together. Erin was considering her own entrance to real estate and later joined the team. They were excited to forge a partnership that would build upon the foundation of all they deemed to be vital to the experience, and they would discard anything that would hinder building strong relationships which are the bedrock of good agents.
For this trio, success is multi-dimensional, but they all agree that it ends with exceeding expectations. “It involves synergy, energy and translates to the client experience,” notes Robbin. Erin says that it also involves loving what you do and being able to make a good living too. Robbin and Erin are quite competitive which is fun, and they describe Jane as the “voice of reason.” Each stays in their own lane, when necessary, but most of the time, they are collaborating in strategy and plans. They explain that their game-changer was when they significantly improved their organization skills and created systems that keep them on the right path. A good business plan gives ample direction, and the team has been successful at implementing their strategies.
This group knows that the best agents are honest and truly listen to their clients. The better agents are also intuitive and able to fill in the gaps, knowing that many people may say one thing but are open to another. Good agents understand the nuances of a conversation. It is vital to these

agents to find out what is important to a client, and above all, they think an agent’s walk and talk should be congruous.
Many have asked them for advice when starting a real estate career, and the team has some sage advice. Start working on your sphere even before you take the exam, and the industry is not for the faint of heart. They say that agents must be disciplined from the start and not focused on transactions and money only. For the more seasoned agents, they hope that they will not become too serious but still keep their passion alive over the long haul, and the most important ingredient – to embrace change and evolve.
Robbin has been married to Charlie (an attorney) for 29 years, and they have four children: Zoe (27), Burk (25), Claire (23) and Gabe (21). The family loves to travel and do anything that involves the outdoors such as biking, running, or swimming. Robbin loves to cook, and they enjoy time with friends.
Jane has been married to Todd (Ag business) for 20 years, and they raise cattle at the Crooked Creek Cattle Company – a farm-to-table operation especially for local restaurants. They have two children: Gillian (19) and Lucas (17), and they enjoy gardening and walking.
Erin is married to Scott Wilson (27 years), and they have three children: Cameron (26), Cole (24) and Chloe (21). The own a logistics
company, but they try to plan time for golf, hiking, walking, and canoeing. They enjoy things that are healthy, and they love to spend time with friends and family.
Creating and maintaining a team is a great undertaking, but this trio is up for the challenge. It does not mean that every day is perfect, but they value their relationships too much to let small things hinder them. They made a promise early on to be quick to communicate and keep their friendship above the business in value, and their mantra is “keep on swimming.” The strive each day to be 1% better than yesterday, and they agree that money and transactions do not define them. They pour their energy into finding ways to strengthen their relationship and those with clients.
Going forward, the team at Edwards Realty Group wants to grow both professionally and personally. They want to help each member reach their established goals, and they are planning to increase their different revenue streams. So much in the industry is individualized, so they hope that agents can only become better at developing strategies for working together in an advantageous way for one another and clients. They value agents and hope they find the joy of synergy and collaboration!
