historic communities
Baltimore City is known for its rich history and unique neighborhoods. Some of the most notable neighborhoods in the city include Roland Park, Guilford, Homeland, Hampden, Tuscany-Canterbury, Charles Village, and Mount Washington. These neighborhoods have played significant roles in the history and development of Baltimore.

“Hiking at Greenspring Branch, Lake Roland is incredible but bring water! There are no water fountains on this 2-hour walk/hike.” - Katherine G.
CHARLES VILLAGE
Roland Park was one of the first planned suburban communities in the United States. It was designed by the Olmsted Brothers, who also designed New York City’s Central Park. The neighborhood was developed in the early 20th century and was intended to be a haven from the crowded and polluted conditions of the city. Today, Roland Park is known for its beautiful tree-lined streets, historic homes, and thriving community.
Guilford is another historic neighborhood in Baltimore. It was developed in the 1910s and 1920s as a suburban community for the city’s elite. The neighborhood was designed to be a “garden suburb,” with large lots and plenty of green space. Guilford is known for its beautiful architecture, including many homes designed by renowned architect Edward Palmer. Today, guests can delight in Guilford’s pride and joy, Sherwood Gardens, a privately owned six-acre tulip garden when they visit in mid-April each year.
Homeland is a neighborhood in the northern part of Baltimore City. It was developed in the early 20th century as a suburban community for middle and upper-class families. The neighborhood is known for its beautiful homes, treelined streets, and sense of community.
Hampden is a historic neighborhood in Baltimore that is known for its quirky and eclectic atmosphere. The neighborhood was developed in the 19th century and was once a mill town. Today, Hampden is known for its unique shops, restaurants, and vibrant arts scene.
Tuscany-Canterbury is a neighborhood located near Johns Hopkins University. It was developed in the early 20th century and is known for its beautiful homes and tree-lined streets. The neighborhood is also home to many students and faculty members from Johns Hopkins.
Charles Village is another historic neighborhood in Baltimore that is located near Johns Hopkins University. The neighborhood was developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is known for its diverse population and beautiful architecture. Most recognizable are the Painted Ladies in Charles Village They are a row of colorful Victorian houses that have become an iconic landmark in Baltimore. They are a popular spot for visitors and locals to admire and photograph.
Mount Washington is a neighborhood located in the northern part of Baltimore City. It was developed in the early 20th century as a suburban community for middle and upper-class families. The neighborhood is known for its beautiful homes, tree-lined streets, and thriving business district.

Baltimore County has a rich history dating back to the early 1600s when English settlers established their colony in the area.
Ruxton, a neighborhood located in the northern part of the county, was originally a farm owned by the Ridgely family. One of the county’s oldest and most affluent communities it was once a summer resort for wealthy Baltimoreans seeking respite from the city’s heat and humidity. The area’s lush forests and rolling hills provided the perfect backdrop for luxurious homes and estates. Today, Ruxton is known for its beautiful homes and scenic views.
Pikesville is another neighborhood in Baltimore County with historical significance. Originally a rural area, the arrival of the Baltimore and Susquehanna Railroad in 1832 transformed Pikesville into a thriving commercial center, with hotels, shops, and restaurants catering to travelers and locals alike. The community also played a role in the Civil War, serving as a training ground for Union soldiers. Today, Pikesville is home to a vibrant community and many historic buildings.
Towson, the county seat of Baltimore County, has a rich history dating back to the early 1700s. It was founded in 1752 and named after Ezekiel Towson, a Revolutionary War hero. While it initially served as a farming community, its central location and easy access to transportation made it an ideal location for county govern ment and the Maryland State Normal School (now Towson University). In the 1800s, Towson became a hub for commerce and transporta tion, and today, it is a thriving community with many restau rants, shops, and cultural attractions.
GUILFORD
THE NEIGHBORHOOD WAS DESIGNED TO BE A “GARDEN SUBURB,” WITH LARGE LOTS AND PLENTY OF GREEN SPACE.

TOWSON UNIVERSITY

Finally, Hampton, located in the northwestern part of the county, was founded in the early 1700s as a tobacco plantation. The Hampton National Historic Site, a 63-acre property that was once the largest slave plantation in Maryland. The site played a significant role in the history of the United States, particularly during the Civil War. Today, the preserved 18th-century estate offers a glimpse into the lives of Maryland’s early settlers and their struggles with slavery and civil rights.
Together, these communities have played an important role in shaping Baltimore County’s history and continue to be an integral part of its vibrant and diverse culture.

"Great service, communication, and pricing. Jennifer was always prompt in responding and accommodating to any changes to the cleaning rotation. I thought the pricing was good for the service. Her team gets the job done quickly because there are 4 of them, but they are thorough and all the tasks/services are completed. Some weeks I only ask for bathrooms to be cleaned, and she adds in dusting as needed. I most appreciated her flexibility in pricing and my schedule."-Sabry M.

"Highly recommend Roland Slate. They have excellent service and top expertise. Our previous roofer could never fix the reoccurring leak in our roof. After multiple failed attempts with the old roofer, I decided to call Roland Slate. They were able to diagnose the issue and patched the leak in one day. I will use them in the future for any issues!" - COREY W
