Last year, my friend and I started Free Food ATL, where we go around the city on the weekends and pass out food to the homeless. Even though some of the recipients are skeptical of the help, that feeling keeps me out there every week, passing out food despite the cold and rainy Atlanta winters. The absolute BEST days, though, are when we meet

What makes you feel truly fulﬁlled? For me, fulﬁllment is a feeling. It’s totally internal. Everything is about chasing that feeling. That feeling that I get when I know I have enough to not only satisfy myself & the ones I care for, but also when I can help out a complete stranger in even a minor way. When I got to college, I realized that I can get to that feeling through a very simple two-step process. 1) Hustling as much as I can to succeed and 2) giving back when I am successful.

It shows the power of just having a vision and consistently executing. Of hustling and giving back. Life is usually complicated, but sometimes, it really is as simple as holding up a cardboard sign.

It really started a few years ago with me founding Emory’s Club Basketball & coaching / refereeing for free, which then evolved even more when I entered the “real world,” as I founded my own digital marketing agency on the side of my job at TAF. That’s where the “hustling as much as I can to succeed” really took roots. Accordingly, my ﬁrst act as a business owner was the creation of the 10% Forward Initiative, by which my business will forever donate at least 10% of our yearly proﬁts to Haitian education. I’m genuinely proud to say that putting several children through school in such a destitute & unfortunate country is one of the most important acts I’ve done in my life.

Community Callout: The Athlete’s Foot in Northport, Alabama continues to make a diﬀerence during the holiday season with a turkey giveaway and toy drive! TAF Northport handed out 50 turkeys prior to Thanksgiving to any person that lined up outside of the store. The giveaway was promoted on social media and via in-store POP. “I’m hopeful we will do it again next year and it becomes an annual event we hold at the store. It’s a great time of the year to give back to the community”, said Kim Winslow, Store Manager/Buyer.

For the past few years, TAF Northport has organized a toy drive around the Christmas AJ 11 Retro release. A customer brings in a new toy valued at $10/$15/$20+ and would be able to reserve either a TD & PS/GS/MENS, depending on the value of the toy. This allows the customer to reserve their sneaker while doing a good deed for a child’s Christmas. All the toys collected are donated to the local YMCA. Big shout out to franchisee Matt Wagner and his team for making a diﬀerence in their community!

The Athlete’s Foot in Atlantic Station (Atlanta) helped former Atlanta Falcon superstar Mike Vick launch his clothing line called V7. The launch took place Black Friday weekend including an in-store appearance by the legend himself, Mike Vick. Any customer who purchased a V7 item got an autograph and picture with Mike Vick. Local hip-hop station HOT 107.9 did a live radio remote with music and giveaways. The V7 line consisted of hoodies, sweats, tees, jackets and hats. The Athlete’s Foot was honored to be a part of the V7 launch and wishes much success to Mike Vick in this endeavor.

Bearings Bike Shop is a youth development organization where kids in Atlanta can earn and maintain a bicycle while developing the skills and characters essential to success in adulthood.

Adam Chait, CEO TAF USA, had the pleasure of meeting Beck O’Mara, the co-founder of Bearings Bike Shop. During their conversation, Becky mentioned that some of the kids in the program wear the same clothes day after day. During Bearings Bike Shop’s annual Halloween party, Adam Chait and Darius Billings had the honor in deliver several hundred TAF branded t-shirts and sweatshirts to the kids at Bearings Bike Shop.

Bearings Bike Shop inspires kids to their full potential by helping them ﬁnd their bearings in life. Many of the youth that participate face obstacles to success: economic insecurity and generational poverty; under-resourced and underperforming schools; and disproportionate violence, crime, and risk of incarceration.

Kicks 4 the City

8th Annual Shoe Drive The Athlete’s Foot and Kicks 4 the City (K4TC) successfully completed our 8th annual shoe drive. Together we collected and distributed almost 20,000 pairs of sneakers to people in need – making it the largest shoe giveaway to date! The shoe drive took place in 7 cities – Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Charlotte, Washington DC, New York, and New Orleans. Shoes were donated in places like barbershops, ﬁre stations, boutiques and all The Athlete’s Foot stores. Special events in each city also served as opportunities to build excitement, get energized and collect shoes. Volunteers in each city gathered all the sneakers, cleaned and sorted them, and then distributed them at homeless shelters, temporary living facilities, and safe shelters. The Athlete’s Foot is proud to be partners with such a great, meaningful organization and will continue to support K4TC in making a diﬀerence through the power of a new pair of sneakers.

With 2019 now in the books, it’s a great time to recap TAF’s results and accomplishments. • For the fifth straight year, we grew total retail sales – we were +11% • For the fourth time in the past five years, comp store sales grew by 4.8% • Gross margin held flat • Average inventory per store was down – meaning we are doing more with less 2019 was truly amazing an amazing year for TAF USA (which includes our friends in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean). We operate in an incredibly challenging and competitive environment. The results validate that our strategy, positioning, and efforts are working. Both consumers and vendors are responding to the way TAF shows up. Thank you to everyone – franchisees, store managers and staff, vendors, the office team, the TAF global team, IIC – for your help lifting our business to new heights.
