A YEAR IN REVIEW
LATIN AMERICAN ART IN 2024
2024 continued to build upon the success of Christie’s previous seasons, showing enthusiastic demand for quality works by leading artists in the category. Across sales, Christie’s achieved $40 million, with particular success for works by Fernando Botero, whose bronze sculpture Dancers sold for 261% above the low estimate.
PRIVATE SALES
Another crucial element of our dynamic approach to the selling of Latin American art is the private sale option.
Christie’s maintains unparalleled success with private sales of Latin American Art. In 2024, the magnitude of transactions was unprecedented. The department has successfully placed major works by Frida Kahlo, Remedios Varo, Fernando Botero, Leonora Carrington, Aliza Nisenbaum, Julio Le Parc, Olga de Amaral, Rufino Tamayo and others at major institutions and in private collections at price levels that often far exceed the artist’s record at auction.
