Early Life

My mom had five kids. I was the middle child – one older sister, one older brother, me and two younger sisters. From seven years onward, I started taking care of myself and my brothers and sisters. I didn’t expect my mom to take care of me. I started washing and ironing my clothes, making everything clean. In my childhood days, I really listened to what she said. After I grew, I started following my own way. My father was so sweet, at the same time he could be cruel. He was a professor.

Every Saturday and Sunday, my mom brought me to the temple. She walked around the temple doing pradakshina as I followed behind her. I really like the pieces of coconut prasad. I always brought a special glass with me so whenever the priest put holy water there, I said, “Please, I need a little more in my glass to drink.” Then I would sit, peacefully enjoying it.

When I was fourteen years old, my days were filled with playing games, riding my bicycle, and swimming in the river. It was summertime and the examination period for my classes. I was studying in the tenth standard and scored between 90–95% in each subject. I was the top student in my class.

To prepare for my exams, I would study in an old temple, two kilometers outside of the village. Every day, an old man came to the temple. He was old and didn’t walk perfectly. He had a beard and a cloth on his head. He was carrying a bag, a begging bowl and one stick. I observed him for four days.

After I finished studying, as I was leaving, he asked for some coins, “Can you give some coins?”

On the first two days, I gave him some coins when he asked. On the third day, I said no. On the fourth day, as I was leaving the temple around 3:30 to 4:00 p.m., feeling really hungry and ready go home to eat, he asked me again, “Can you give one coin or two coins?”

I said I had no change.

He said, “Why are you lying? You have fifty rupees with you.” I was so surprised. I had forgotten that I had a fifty-rupee note in my pocket!

“How do you know that?” I asked. Then I told him I had no change and wasn’t going to give him fifty rupees!

“All right,” he said. “I will give you change.”

“If you already have fifty rupees, why are you asking me for two rupees? I’m going to my house to eat and then I’ll bring back some coins, so don’t worry.”

“Why are you going to your house?”

I said, “To eat, I’m very hungry.”

“I’ll give you my food,” Baba said.

I said, “No, no, no. I don’t like your food.”

“You don’t like my food? It’s very tasty.” Then he opened his bag and brought out his begging bowl.

The food was very spoiled, four or five days old.

I asked, “Why are you eating this food? That’s why

He made two spoons with his hand. I ate 20 to 30 times from the bowl. Then I was full and went just 20 feet away to the water tap to wash my hands. I was gone for only a matter of one to two minutes, but he had disappeared before I returned. He had left his stick. I still have that stick.

At the time, I felt afraid and confused. It was an old temple, nobody was there, and he couldn’t walk even a little distance within five minutes. I climbed to the top of the temple. I looked, but he was nowhere. But I found his footprints. My heart

Then when I was writing the examination the next day, I heard Baba’s voice. His voice came directly to my ear. Again, I was writing, again his voice was coming. He only said, “How are you? How are you?”

After that, I went to a priest and said, “One old man did magic on me. He’s talking to my ears. What happened? Is it good or bad?”

The priest didn’t believe me. He did a prayer and charged me fifty rupees.

After a few months the old man spoke to me in my dreams, “Why are you afraid? I’m not a bad man. I’m your Grandfather. I’m a Grandfather to all the people. You will do pure work. You’re a global person, you’re a global person.” I could not

When I stood in front of Baba’s samadhi in Shirdi, he talked to me in Telugu, “I’ve been waiting for you. Now the right time is coming. I’ve been waiting for you.” It’s true. I was just standing in front of his statue, and he spoke to me. Baba told me my destiny was to be a spiritual master. I started laughing.

What could I do? I had no faith in miracles and healing. I thought it was silly, just nonsense. From that beginning, I’m not recognizing what’s going on in me. Coming here, going there – like this, he’s controlling me. Just he has a remote control on me.
