12. …………..Tips for a New Year

From The Editor Happy New Year! One of my resolutions for 2016 was to continue working on ‘D Magazine’ and create an issue per month this year. 12 issues can’t be too hard for a college student-right? Each issue will feature a calendar of daily national holidays celebrated that month, as well as occasionally a few recipes and do-it-yourself crafts. This issue is, of course, the ‘New Year’s’ Issue. I’ll be sharing tips to help plan your New Year, and a few things to help stick to your New Year’s resolutions.

Enjoy! Editor

Your 2016 Back-up Plan

Whether you’re a planner, or just go with the flow, it’s always good to take notes for upcoming holidays, birthdays, or (especially- for us college students) tests and deadlines! Be ready for everything 2016 throws at you with these handy tips for planners and planning. Technology: It’s 2016, and there is a technological use for almost everything- so why not sync your plans together? Now, I searched all summer for a planner to use at college, and I don’t even use it. I even got a free one on the concourse- I don’t use that one either. It was just easier to use my computer, which was already on my desk, or quickly add it in my phone calendar before I sent a text to my study group. Reminders are easy to set, events are easy to move or delete, and I can even share an event with whoever I need to! Another great feature of using your gadgets, is how easy it is to sync events and deadlines between phone and calendar. I might add “Geog Test @ 9” on my computer, and my week ahead reminder appears on my phone while I’m scrolling through Twitter. My phone has been a lifesaver at reminding me about deadlines, and it just works for me. I do understand that Technology cannot always be trusted, which is why keep my tests and assignment due dates updated on a whiteboard

in my dorm room. This leads me into the old fashioned way of remindersgood old paper and pencil. Planners: My roommate uses a super cute planner to layout her week. Everything she needs to know is in that planner, and also on the whiteboard in our dorm room. Although I have admitted to relying on my phone like most people, I have to agree how easy it is (once you get used to doing so) to carry a planner and write your next test date down once you get your syllabus. Especially carrying a backpack, a planner is a great essential item for not just a college student, but for everyone. For those of us that have trouble finding the perfect planner, why not consider building your own? Using programs as simple as Microsoft Excel, you can create your own monthly and weekly layouts to print. If you aren’t that great with technology, I’ve included some links to a few blogs with free planner downloads (; The Handmade Home Shining Mom The Organized Dream Small Paper Things

Step 3. Once the liquid is boiling, add the spice mixture to the liquid, then stir thoroughly. Note: If the liquid is not boiled, then the spices will not mix well, and become clumpy.

New Year, Same Resolutions

You’ve been putting it off all year, every year; either you “don’t have the time” or “don’t have the money” to follow through with it. As the year comes closer to the end, you thought “I’m finally going to do this… next year.” That’s what New Year's resolutions are for, right? We’ve ALL been there (Especially me), you’re fully committed to your New Year’s resolution- until February 1st. Then it becomes your resolution again the next year, and the next. So why is this year’s resolution so different? Because it’s YOUR year. You’ve been hanging on to this certain resolution for years now, and you would have given up with it by now if it wasn’t that important to you. Which is exactly why THIS YEAR is the year to do it. Work for that toned stomach, reach your Instagram follower goal, or cook a healthy meal for yourself 6 out of 7 nights. You can do this. You wouldn’t have a Pinterest board for it if you didn’t think there was a chance. Check out the next page for tips to help you stay on track on the road to get fit! (Its all free!)

Here are   a few tips to start your New Year off on the right foot.
