Decodable Books
Fiction & non-fiction sets for beginner and older readers

Truly decodable books for every reader
Phonic Books was created by three reading specialists as a result of their years of experience and the need they saw for decodable books in the classroom to build reading confidence and fluency.
What is decoding?
Decoding is the process of reading a word by sounding out the letter sounds and blending them together.
What are decodable books?
Decodable fiction and non-fiction series available
Designed for children who are learning to read, decodable books are carefully written stories and texts that use only the letter sounds pupils have been taught. They offer pupils the opportunity to practise decoding words, which in turn helps to develop their reading fluency by having them sound out the letters on the page and blend them into words. With repeated practice, children can read words quickly and fluently, gradually recognising them by sight. They also have an opportunity to develop word recognition for high-frequency words that will help them to read fluently.
Decodable books should:
• Contain words using the letter sounds the pupil has learnt
• Provide essential practice of phonics skills
• Encourage children to sound out and decode each word
• Feature fewer than 20% high-frequency words
Why use Phonic Books decodable books?
Created by reading specialists, Phonic Books has a history of delighting and engaging children who are learning to read.

• The books complement any systematic phonics programme and are easy to use in the classroom.
• They offer incremental and cumulative progression through the series.
• There are multiple sets which cover the same phonics progression to ensure that pupils who need extra practice have a new story to engage and motivate them.
• Each series has an accompanying, reproducible workbook that includes teaching and practice activities to support the learner and build their reading confidence.

Launchers
Dandelion Launchers is a fully decodable phonics series for beginner readers. The series is organised into 20 progressive stages to build a gradual understanding of phonics. Each stage introduces new letters/sounds while supporting previously taught phonics and high-frequency words. It begins with sounds of the alphabet in Units 1–7, progressing to adjacent consonants and consonant digraphs in Units 8–15, then on to two-syllable words and more complex spelling patterns: tch, ve, le and the suffixes -ed and -ing, in Units 16–20. A game is included at the back of each book, offering a fun way to practise the new phonics and knowledge introduced at each stage.

Dandelion World is the parallel series to Dandelion Launchers, and covers a range of engaging non-fiction topics. Each book includes a non-fiction knowledge builder feature for children and adults to read together. This is a fun way to enhance vocabulary and deepen comprehension of the book’s content.

Readers
Dandelion Readers is a series of books for beginner readers. The Readers Sets cover the initial phonics code, while the Readers Vowel Spellings introduce different spellings for vowel sounds. Dandelion Readers Split Vowel Spellings covers split vowel or silent ‘e’ spellings. More text than in previous series is included on each page to build reading stamina. A helpful “Reading Practice” section at the back of each book allows further practice of each new spelling taught.
