Aloha Blue Devils! I hope you’re having an awesome last few weeks of school. For those of you that haven't met me yet, my name is Justin Tang, and I proudly serve Division 26 South as Lieutenant Governor! I look forward to meeting each and every one of you over the course of the next 11 months. The first quarter of the Key Club term is always chaotic. From new officers to AP tests, I totally understand how hectic it can be. Thank you for continuing to show your passion for serving the community! I'm so proud of all of you! This term is going to be the best term Division 26 South has ever seen, I can feel it. And that's because of you, Blue Devils! Remember that Key Club is year round! Hey Blue Devils !! My name is Dominique Calaguas and I am honored to serve as your new Division 26 South News Editor for the 2018 - 2019 term! I’m a junior at Dublin High and I’ve been a member of Key Club since my freshman year. I love making art (I’ve been drawing pretty much since I could hold a pencil), playing video games, eating ice cream (cotton candy is the best), and sleeping. I’d love to get to know you all as well, so feel free to send me a message on any social media platform you find me on! I am 110% confident that our division is in very good hands, and that Justin and everyone else on the new Division Leadership Team will make this term the best we’ve ever had. You all as well have the power to bring this division to new heights! Key Club has grown so much over the past few years, and I’m so proud to be a part of a huge family filled with so many passionate, spirited, and inspirational people. The school year is almost over, but the term is just beginning! May is a really hectic month, especially with finals and AP tests. Hang in there, it’s almost summer! Past Events
On Saturday, April 21, we volunteered at the April DWS March For Babies, a charity walk used to raise money as well as to raise awareness about infant mortality. For our shift, we helped to take down the booths set up around the finish line. We also cheered on many walkers as they crossed the finish line and witnessed many young kids sprint to the finish line in joy. It felt really uplifting as we watched such spirited people with their families run, jog, and walk across the finish, all cheering with happiness. To me, the most rewarding part of the entire event is knowing that you are helping a great cause and that you are encouraging people who have lost babies or have known someone who has lost a baby to keep going in life. This is such an important cause and I’m so grateful that we could help them out in our own unique way as Key Clubbers and Blue Devils!

April included arguably one of the most fun DCMs, Pie to ELIMINATE, which had members and officers bid on each other in order to smash a plate of whipped cream in their victim’s face. All the proceeds went to the ELIMINATE Project and victims of the pies knew that they were doing it for a good cause, or at least that’s what I said to myself as I stood with cool whipped cream covering my face. Personally, I believe that this extremely funny and joyful DCM allowed us to get closer to each other as we laughed with each other about how ridiculous we all looked with whipped cream on our face. While we did get quite a few weird looks from parents, it was definitely worth it and we all knew that this profitable event would go towards such an important cause.

Although the weather was super hot that day, it was a small price to pay in order to serve our community. May 4th, 2018, Friday is the day I attended the annual Key Club banquet and it also marks the day when I committed to being active once again to this club. The Key Club banquet was such a great experience

in over a year. Me and my friends exchanged looks from across the room, greeting one another with our eyes. Next came the Key Club appointment of the DLT positions. Everyone who were appointed to each position was greeted with such excitement and energy from our D26 North and South members. I was surprised and overwhelmed from the energy that was emitted by these young students who called Key Club
their family. This, once again I was able to experience one of the purpose that Key Club had enforced : collaboration. A specific moment I want to acknowledge as being the best part of the Key Club banquet moment is when Jonathan Lum came up to me after the banquet and asked, “Hey David, was it fun today?” I didn’t expect him to remember me especially because I had been such an inactive member
during my junior year, regardless he still remembered me. As a result, after everything had ended I found myself wanting to see these people’s faces again, thus I promised myself that senior year I will try to become an active member of Key Club again. The banquet has truly inspired and sparked my passion for this club.

On May 4th, I had the opportunity to attend the Division 26 North and South joint banquet at the Heather Farms Community Center in Walnut Creek. As expected, the banquet was a great experience. The initial DCM was a nice update for all the news going on in the division. Each club stated what their plans were for the coming month. The food was good and socializing with all my friends while eating on a friday night is always an ideal Friday night. Meeting all the people from other schools and d26n that I do not get to see that
much was so nice and seeing them all is always so much fun. While it was a bit of an emotional night, saying goodbye to all of the seniors and realizing this is also my last term in Key Club, it was still a great night. I am so proud of Campolindo, so many of us were recognized for our achievements which so exciting to see. I am also excited to have 3 people from Campolindo serve on the DLT. While the banquet signaled the end of the previous term it also ushered in the new one and made me look forward to a great 2018-2019 term !

“So for the seniors we spent time making coin purses for them to put their bingo chips in. We cut out circular pieces of clothes and used super glue to
attach zippers to them. It was a bit of a struggle to properly superglue the zippers onto the cloth and attain the coin bag shape- but after a few
trials and errors we were able to do it. The seniors chose what designs they wanted and a zipper to match. They seemed happy with the end result and thanked us.”

We helped set up the festival by putting up tents, organizing the tables, rearranging stuff, etc. The event lasted 2.5 hours. The photos attached below show the event setting and the tents that we had set up. This service event gave us the opportunity to not only help out our community, but to learn about the different cultures that live in it. We had three Dougherty Valley Key Club members and two officers (including myself) attend. We cheered on runners as they passed by from 8 a.m. to 9:30 am. All of the volunteers were ringing bells and hollering at runners, hyping them up. We also held up posters with words of encouragement. We manned the “Boost Lane,” where we cheered extra loudly and more enthusiastically to anyone that ran through. The photos below show the Key Clubbers cleaning up after the run and holding up the posters while cheering. Not only was this event a great way for members to bond with each other and create fond memories, but the volunteering experience proved endearing to the runners as well.

This past weekend, I volunteered alongside Key Club and Patch club members to help run the annual Spring Fair at Heritage Park. The Spring Fair is a fair that celebrates traditional springtime activities and allows visitors to participate in farm chores. Volunteers set up the fair, demonstrated ice cream churning, butter churning, served at a teahouse, and performed magic milk experiments to visitors. Several Dublin key club members also stayed behind on their shifts to clean out oily butter churns as well as pack up the entire fair. The newer members stuck it out as we washed many teacups, teapots, trays, and churns. Through all these
experiences, we created stronger bonds with the promising new members and managed to pack up the fair without a hitch. For me, this event was quite difficult with seemingly endless tasks and dishes to wash, but it got easier as we learned to work together with the new members. It was very beneficial to our club as we secured new relationships as well as just talking with each other and spending quality bonding time while helping our city! While this may sound cheesy, I just think any bonding time is great for our club overall, especially after the time away from the members during the past teacher strike.

“We formed an assembly line and filled up bags with an assortment of snacks and foods. We then realized that we hadn’t bought enough because the packaging was confusing so Malika, Finn, and myself all went to Safeway to get more goodies. When we came back everyone else had finished filling the bags and so we only had to add what we had just picked up. A lot of people stayed longer to hang out and / or study”

It felt good to know that we would be making someone’s day just that much better by providing proper nutrition, which they may not get normally. Even buying supplies was fun because I knew that they would be put to a good cause. It was also a great way to bond with my fellow peers”

“We spent 2 hours at the food bank, sorting good potatoes from bad potatoes and bagging them up. Time flew by while we were working and we needed up getting about 6000 pounds of potatoes all bagged and ready to be sent out. While we worked we all talked together and had a great time, it was a social event, while also being an event that helps our surrounding community”

Key Club members had a blast at the lobster feed on March 24. The Lobster Feed was hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley. Here members took time to help serve food to the Kiwanis members as they bid for prizes. During the evening Key Club members served lobster, salad and pasta. There was a silent auction as well as live auction. It was fascinating watching the auction with the variation of prizes. Some Kiwanis members won signed basketballs, a wine tasting session and much more! I particularly liked volunteering for this event because it
gave me an opportunity to talk and interact with different members of the community. During the night I made many new Key Club friends. In addition, serving at the lobster feed helped me improve my speaking skills, as I had to talk and interact with the individuals at my table. I learned many new facts about the community that I otherwise would have been oblivious to. The best thing about the eventing was the fact that all the donations and money spent throughout the night was donated to help serve the community.

Katherine Tang Executive Assistant #2 Hi everyone! My name is Katherine Tang, and i’m beyond honored to be serving as your new Executive Assistant! I’m a freshman at Monte Vista High School (Stang Mob? More like Tang Mob) and one of my goals for the upcoming term is to get even more members involved so that they can fully experience the Key Club ohana and everything it offers. A fun fact about me is that I’m ambidextrous, but I didn’t know until I broke my arm in PE as a fifth grader (it’s a long, long story).

Rachel Zhang Kiwanis Family & Foundation Coord. Hi Blue Devils! I’m Rachel Zhang and I’ll be serving as your Kiwanis Family Foundation Chair for the 2018-19 term! KFF Chair is a new addition to the DLT, so I’m adamant on setting a great example for those who follow me. My goal for this term would be strengthening the relationship between Key Club and Kiwanis! This would include establishing long lasting connections with Kiwanis, attending their monthly DCMs, and relaying information to you all from Kiwanis and vice versa. CNH District Secretary What’s the buzz, Blue Devils? My name’s zoe Yao and I have the honor of serving YOU as CNH District Secretary! As DSEC, it’s my responsibility to record the service hours progress of the 40,000 members in CNH, communicate regularly with the district board, provide training materials to club secretaries and Lt. Governors, and assist in any district. I’ve been in Key Club my entire high school career, and if there’s one thing that I’ve learned, it’s that ohana means family. Having the opportunity to serve alongside all of you has been the opportunity of a lifetime. The memories I’ve made, the friends I’ve met, and love I’ve felt have been instrumental in shaping my character and my values. Love you long time, Blue Devils. CNH District Treasurer Aloha Division 26 South! My name is Kara Yoshiyama and I serve YOU as as your next California-Nevada-Hawaii District Treasurer. Last year, I served on the district board as the Lt. Governor of Division 22 Makai and I am ecstatic to serve on the District Board once again for my final year in Key Club. I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Hawaii. Since I was a child, community service has always been a part of my life. As I entered high school, I found that Key Club contained 4 core values that I hold near to my heart. Now, let me share with you a little more about myself: I love California boba, i is much better than Hawaii boba. My FAVORITE is jasmine green tea with boba (: You can usually find me either dancing hula, drinking Starbucks or catching up on my beauty sleep. Lastly, I love dogs (please send me cute pics of your dogs). In all seriousness, being the first District Executive from Hawaii, I hope o bring a different perspective to the board. I am honored that YOU have given me this opportunity. I’d love to get to know you all so don’t hesitate to reach out to me! I love you all!

Key Club has allowed me to grow in ways that I never thought I would be able to and seeing others grow as well has been one of the best gifts this organization has given me. I can’t wait to serve with all of you for one more term and I can’t wait to see you at a division event in the near future!
