Community Fridge For DissHelping food to go the extra mile!
Food waste is a huge issue in the UK.

The Fridge is open for anyone to help themselves to food that would otherwise go to waste. So far Community Fridges have helped thousands connect to their communities, access nutritious food, save money and reduce waste. It's a great way to tackle food waste and fight food poverty in our area.

We receive lots of donations from local supermarkets and fresh loaves of bread, cakes and pastries from bakeries. In the Summer, we received a surplus of fruit and vegetables from allotments, gardens and orchards. Recently, we had lots of onions, coconuts, swedes and celery from a film set! Run by a group of volunteers, the Community Fridge is a project by the people, for the people. Anyone can volunteer with us. Our volunteers help with the collection of local donations, unpacking and displaying items at the DYCC, assisting at food collection times and checking items for expiry dates and disposing accordingly. We are delighted to be able to provide a volunteering opportunity for three Diss High School pupils who chose Diss Community Fridge as the volunteering component of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Opening times: Monday, Thursday and Friday: 3pm-4pm for donation drop-offs, 6.30pm-8pm for collections
