Community Cabinet calls out for collectables!
Do you have collectables, local memorabilia or stories you’d like to display in our Community Cabinet? We want to hear from you! Objects may come from your own collection or you may wish to explore the museum's collection to pursue a particular subject of interest. This opportunity provides a chance for members of the community to tell their own story, or reveal hidden stories from within the museum and to be involved with the display and presentation of their material. The aim is to continue the regularly changing showcase of local people's memorabilia, stories and or collections, with each display usually lasting for 6 – 8 weeks. Displays have consisted of everyday objects or the rare and unusual, as is evident in our first display of the 2023 season, which highlights local finds from detectorists. The Diss Community Cabinet has been a central feature of Diss Museum since 2014, following a successful funding bid from SHARE Museum East. Previous displays include New Hall porcelain, Sweetheart handkerchiefs, War rations, Salvation Army anniversary, Women’s Institute, Rotary, Photo Elite, Cupiss, Norfolk Family History Society, Crystals, Locks & Keys, Diss Cyclathon, Thimbles, Decorative Tins, Village history - Garboldisham – to name just a few. We are now looking for potential participants in this project.
