Keep in touch with nature – Volunteer at Quaker Wood

Back in 2006, the very first meetings were held to set up a Community Woodland for Diss and Roydon, now known as ‘Quaker Wood’. By Spring 2023, the result of all the hard work that followed is clear to see!

Quaker Wood is a 5.5 acre site and can be found along Factory Lane in Roydon. It comprises of young woodland, open spaces, a wildflower meadow, large pond and countless trees - both old and young. Home to plenty of wildlife, the site houses a wide variety of birds, insects and other wild creatures!

The wood is managed by Diss Community Woodland Project, a local volunteer group without any regular public funding. We hold ‘Working Parties’ on the first Saturday of every month, with new volunteers of any skill level welcome to join us!

The space is open every day for the quiet enjoyment of YOU, the local community, and for the benefit of the wildlife.

Volunteers also provide mornings and activities for young people to get involved in too, as well as special events held over the year including barbecues, competitions and guided bat-walks.

As we enter into Spring, keep an eye out for the many tadpoles appearing in our pond! They must be left alone to allow them to grow and develop of their own accord, but they are perfectly visible for all to see from our viewing platform!
