Welcome to your February issue... A very warm welcome (unlike the weather!) to you all.

T

his month, of course, we’ve got Valentine’s Day on February 14th where we can all stoke those romantic fires, so let’s ignore all the rain and gales out there, (Storm Christoph about to join us, as I write!) and cosy up inside and enjoy this month’s collection of features and ideas brought together for you by our wonderful team. Approaching the anniversary of the coronavirus reaching our shores, I vowed to make one month in the year free of Covid -19 references, so this February is the one! Keep safe and think of those sunny days to come – things will improve, and that begins when you have to stay indoors with your loved one to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

This month, our attention can switch briefly from the ongoing pandemic and our encouraging vaccination statistics to Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, our regular contributors who would normally be welcoming large numbers of diners and buyers of romantic merchandise at this time of year continue to be ‘locked-down’. Let’s hope that an upturn in the economy, post-pandemic, will bring relief to everyone struggling for survival right now. There are brighter days ahead! By the way, if love is blind, how come lingerie is so popular around Valentine’s Day? And finally, I put my NHS Donor Card in the ATM last week by mistake – it cost me an arm and a leg! Enjoy the read!

Your Garden

February GARDENING TIPS

F

ebruary is a month of preparation and re-awakening as spring draws nearer. The best thing when planting is to be guided by the weather, rather than to stick to a strict regime. If you have not completed your winter digging, now is the time, so long as the soil is not too wet or frozen: incorporate as much rotted down manure and compost as you can. There is no need to dig it in, as the worms will do that for you, and then cover it to keep the soil warm and some of the rain off. A number of seeds can be planted indoors, ready for planting out when the weather improves. These include broad beans, Brussels, leeks, onions, salad leaves, tomatoes, peas, spinach, summer cabbage and sprouting broccoli. Onion and shallot sets can be planted but, if the soil is too wet, they could be started off in plugs, putting them almost on the surface of the compost. They can then be put in the greenhouse or cold frame. Broad beans can also be planted in pots under cover, ready to be planted out later. All of your seed potatoes for the year should have been purchased by the end of this month and spread out in egg boxes or seed trays for “chitting”. Make sure they are in a cool, dark room; in the dark, they will produce long, translucent shoots. Remove all but three of the “chits” as it is believed that this produces larger potatoes.

Other jobs for February include: • Make sure winter cabbages, cauliflowers and broccoli are netted against hungry pigeons, whose food supply is a little short at this time of year. • Remove dead leaves from cabbages and sprouts – if they start to rot, they can spread mould and mildew. • Prune autumn raspberry canes by cutting right down to the ground. • Bare-rooted fruit trees can still be planted but this will be your last opportunity. • Feed and mulch fruit trees and bushes. • Winter prune currants, blackberries, hybrid berries, gooseberries. It really is the last call for pruning fruit trees as they will soon be making new growth. • If you know where you are planting your brassicas, check the pH and, if needs be, add some lime to bring it up to 6.5 or 7. Also add some extra manure to the potato patch. • The compost heap might benefit from a bit of attention. Rake it through with a fork to aerate it, add water if it seems dry and then re-cover it to keep it warm. • Oh, and don’t forget, if you haven’t dug a bean trench, now would be a good opportunity. Just dig a spade’s depth down and then throw in all your kitchen waste, newspaper, cardboard etc and layer it with soil – couldn’t be easier! Happy gardening!

Electric Vehicle Charging to Keep You Moving So, you’ve made the decision to drive an electric vehicle … your next step is to ensure that it’s charged for when you need it.

E

nter… Electron EV Solutions, the Peterborough-based specialists who offer a fast, reliable and cost-effective, home installation service. Focusing on the domestic market and operating across the Midlands and South East, Electron EV Solutions will survey and install an EV charging point for your electric vehicle.

Your safety at home is, of course, paramount so Electron EV Solutions only install chargers that are certified by the BSI and they must also be IP rated, (an industry-standard rating used to define the levels of protection against solid objects being inserted into the unit such as fingers or hands).

ADDITIONAL FEATURES AND OPTIONS

Working in conjunction with their sister company, Marshall Electrical Services, all their engineers are trained and certified installers. Registered with NAPIT and Trustmark (the quality assurance bodies for this industry), Electron EV Solutions are also members of Investors in the Environment (iiE) which is a national environmental accreditation scheme.

Some EV chargers have a built-in GPRS communication system, enabling you to manage them from your mobile device. You can start or stop your vehicle charge, check on the live status and set charging notifications. It will also give you the charging history, such as total energy used and CO2 savings.

EV PRODUCTS

WHAT NOW?

There are several types of charger, and several manufacturers producing a range of products. The EV charger is easy to install and maintain on the outside of your property. The unit runs off a 32A supply and the most common charger is a 7kW charger, taking power from your consumer unit or solar panels, if you have them.

WHAT’S MORE …

Being located on the outside of your property makes the charger susceptible to damage, so certain features come as standard, such as being flame and corrosion resistant, weatherproofed against the elements and impact-resistant. Most chargers have an LED light that will tell you the charging 8

status and when it is complete. You also have options in terms of the aesthetics of an EV charger.

Deepings

Why not let Electron EV Solutions talk you through the options, and recommend the best charger for you? All the manufacturers they work with offer a 3-year warranty on their EV chargers and Electron EV give you a 12-month installation warranty.

the government is encouraging us all to switch to electric or hybrid vehicles. As part of this, the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) offers a grant scheme on all home EV charger installations. This could mean a saving of up to £350 for you. As an approved OLEV installer, Electron EV Solutions can apply for these grants on your behalf. FE BR U A R Y 2 0 2 1

Life in Lockdown at the Age of Ninety-one

Julie Symcox, co-founder of AHM Installations, tells us how life has changed – both for her and her ninety-one-year old father, Ray – during lockdown.

I

’ve worked as a nanny and nurse, in residential care homes and as a Samaritan, and we now run an accessible bathrooms business. We’re lucky to live next door to my ninety-oneyear-old father, Ray. We’ve always been a close family, but Dad and I became closer when Mum sadly passed away in 2013. bathrooms safer, at a cost they can afford.

“When the pandemic started, the first few weeks were alright,” Dad said. “It was so quiet; you could hear the sound of birds. It felt very restful. I’ve kept busy around the house and garden. I’m head cook and bottle-washer, so I don’t have any spare time! I do miss some things though like the weekly luncheon club at the village hall. I haven’t seen friends since March. And I miss going to the pub on a Friday.”

People call us just to ask for advice. We will always do our best to find a solution, whatever the budget. Please feel free to call our family-run team on 01522 500288. We also offer discounts for military veterans and for those with dementia.

FREE* Georgia toilet & basin with every bathroom order

Very sadly, my Auntie Dorothy – Dad’s ninety-sixyear-old sister – died this year and Dad couldn’t visit her while she was in hospital or go to the funeral. “That wasn’t very nice,” he said. My brother Rob and I took it in turns to get Dad’s food shopping. Then in mid-December, Dad and I decided to go to Aldi together for the first time. “That was the first time I’d gone out of the village,” he said. “The family have helped so I’ve not gone without, but I do miss it.” My husband Simon and I set up AHM Installations twenty years ago because we know that small changes can make a big difference to people’s comfort and independence in their own home. We know how to make people’s

With the pandemic making it more and more difďŹ cult for “lockdown lonely heartsâ€? to meet potential partners face-to-face, rogue romancers are looking to steal more than just their affections! Last year, UK victims of online romance fraud were conned out of more than an estimated ÂŁ63 million by love rats posing as potential partners by using a fake 15:38 proďŹ le. These people are experts at grooming their victims and their endgame is always about how much money they can extract. Here are a few simple steps to keep yourself, and your loved ones, safe: on't rush into an online relationship. Get to know the person, not the proďŹ le, ensuring you ask plenty of questions and it is paramount that you meet virtually in person via video chat.

Local History

When Deeping Flooded

I

(KINDLY SUPPLIED BY DEEPINGS HERITAGE)

n July 1875, continuous rain made the River Welland overflow, washing away gardens fronting High Street and making it impassable except by boat. Traditional double-ended punts, as shown in the 1947 photograph, were used to ferry people around. Horsegate, Bridge Street and parts of Eastgate in Deeping St James were under several feet of water, with residents having to move out or live in upstairs rooms. It was said to be the worst local flood in living memory – but not the only one that year. In January, melting snow and ice had caused flooding and in August excessive rain ruined the harvest. October saw the streets up to three feet deep in water again and fields submerged. In November, heavy rain caused more floods and in December the streets in Deeping St James were under water for the sixth time. Exactly five years later, in July 1880, the river began to rise in an alarming manner, following downpours further up the Welland valley. It was six inches higher than ever known before, and the level is recorded by a date-mark carved into the side of Deeping St James bridge. Water flowed through houses “like a cataract”, with walls, pigsties and chicken houses being washed away. People trapped in upper rooms spent time fishing

High Street, Market Deeping in the 1929 flood

and catching eels out of their windows, with other supplies being delivered to them by boat or large horses which could navigate the deep water. In Market Deeping, water from the mill stream overflowed, making Stamford Road and Church Street impassable, and houses in the Market Place were inundated, after water rushed through the New Inn (now The Stage) and other buildings on the riverbank. Even parts of Towngate were submerged. The flood waters were slow to recede and it was said they became the colour of tea, from the rotting grass and vegetation. A public meeting was held to discuss how such disasters could be prevented in future, and the silting up of the riverbed was felt to be part of the problem. Despite actions taken, Deeping suffered further severe flooding in 1900, 1912 and, as pictured, in 1929. Difficulties continued in the 1930s and 1940s, with the Welland still unable to cope with heavy volumes of rainwater. After deep snow in the winter of 1947, there was a sudden thaw in March and, in a short time, streets were under several feet of water. Once again, punts were used to get around.

After the construction of Maxey Cut and other river improvements in the 1950s, major flooding in Deeping ceased.

Cupid - The Estate Agent!

A

round Valentine’s Day it would seem that there is a fair bit of love involved in estate agency! Estate agents are, if anything, matchmakers after all. And, just as people fall in love with the right person, so buyers also need to fall in love with the property if the sale is to succeed. Just as a good matchmaker will not put people on a database and expect them to enter into a long-term loving relationship, so our job is far more than a simple broking service. That’s why we go to great lengths to understand our buyers’ needs, preferences, hopes, desires and aspirations in respect of their future home. Only through this understanding can we guide them to the right property. Of course, our matchmaking brief may be to find a Scarlett Johansson or George Clooney for a buyer which, in property terms, can be ambitious! Buyers tend to have up to ten factors on their “wish list”

BY PAUL BRIGGS

that they seek to fulfil. However, in our experience, there is usually an element of compromise on around four of these. Interestingly, despite location being the first on the list of preferences, it is often the one that is compromised first, with many people being slightly out of their preferred area in order to secure a home that fulfils most of their other desirables. Speaking of desirables, during this Valentine’s season whilst we don’t recommend that you necessarily fall in love with your estate agent, it is important that you choose one who you actually like : Are they professionally attractive? Do they listen to you? Do they understand you ? Are they transparent ? Do they call you? Are they honest with you and do they respect you? So often, relationships with agents can fail for the same reasons as any other relationship. But if you ask any of our clients, you will find our love is expressed in some very practical ways.

Will & Probate Services

2021: The Year to Protect You and Your Family.

L

ADVICE FROM NICK ASH, MANAGING DIRECTOR WILL AND PROBATE SERVICES

ocked down again and the frustration is palpable; I feel it in myself and can see it in the people that I talk to. Like most people, I am back to doing Zoom and Facetime meetings – the new normal. But the good news is there is light at the end of the tunnel.

As I write, three million vulnerable people have been vaccinated and the speed of the rollout of vaccinations is ramping up. I am lucky, my business has been able to trade throughout the pandemic; what we do is closer to the front of people’s minds than it has ever been. The most frequent conversations that I have these days are with people who have suffered a loss, be it the death of a loved one, or the loss of contact with close family members. People say to me that life is fragile, and our way of life can be turned on its head so quickly and so completely. That is why 2021 is the year to protect yourself and your family. Protect against the unknowns; make sure that, whatever happens, you and yours will be safe, and life will be able to continue. So where to start? I guess my answers are obvious and predictable: Make a Will! Over 100,000 people have died from Covid and the news broadcasts tell you every day how many more have died. We are seeing people daily who have been bereaved and who are in a mess because there was no Will in place. For most people, a Will can be sorted out in a simple call in under an hour.

Put Lasting Powers of Attorney in place. People are being incapacitated by the disease, leaving families unable to access funds or make decisions about loved ones’ medical treatment. LPAs solve this and once they are done, they are there forever. No matter what happens in the future, your loved ones retain control. Again, this can be done for most people in one call, at a time that suits you. Neither of these steps is expensive. With the right guidance, most people find the process painless and easy. All you have to do is book a call. If now is the time to protect yourself and your family, call us 01778 382723 and book a call with one of our specialist, qualified consultants. The first consultation is always free, and we work to fixed fees.

Tips to Cope wi So here we are again, “locked down” in the Covid-19 pandemic. Why not try some of our top ten, tried and tested, tips to help you cope?

1

Catch up with friends

2

Meditation

Pick up the phone and get chatting with friends and relatives as well, especially elderly ones and those living alone; they’d be especially glad to hear from you.

One of the best things you can do for mental health is to incorporate meditation into your daily ritual. Not only will this help you remain calm, it may also help to boost your immune system.

3 Get fit

Push back your furniture and you’ve got yourself a gym! Then you can exercise every day, keeping strong, fit and supple. You’ll need a mat or some cushions for floor exercises, and ideally some props, such as a ball, beanbag or a set of weights. If you have a blood pressure monitor, you can track your increasing fitness.

5

4

Be Creative

Ever dreamed of having the time to write a book, produce poetry or create some music? Perhaps a penchant for fine art? Now is the time for you!

Prepare some tasty meals

Research and produce some tasty meals and treats. Your normal lifestyle may not allow for much cooking, but now you have all the time in the world.

ith Another Lockdown 6

Learn a new language

This is the ideal time to start, or polish up a language you already have some grounding in. When you’ve chosen your language, go online and scroll through the lists of organizations and individuals offering relevant tutoring.

7

Play games

Dig out all your old board games or card packs. Why not join an online club to play the game of your choice with real, live opponents? If you want more physical activity, set an obstacle course around your furniture or, if possible, outside.

8

Earn money online

If you’re interested in enhancing your income, browse the listings for recommended earning routes, then look into your preferred options more closely for an informed choice. Many people succeed in earning pocket-money, or much more, online.

10

Make some home improvements

9 Read

Open a book, real or virtual, and escape to the world of fiction. Alternatively, there’s a wealth of non-fiction publications to explore, from “How to” guides and subject-specializing books to biographies and true stories. Many people find poetry helpful in challenging situations.

Here is the chance to focus on improving your home without interruption. Whilst major works might have to wait, you can at least rearrange the furniture and swap your pictures around. If you have access to paint, wallpaper or varnish, you can also do some decorating.

BRUARY RY 2021 2021 FFEEBRUA

Finally,

just remember there are always others worse off than yourself. Please don’t forget your elderly or vulnerable neighbours; an offer of help, a wave from the window, or a treat left on the doorstep is enough to brighten their day.

Recipe

Slimming World

Strawberry TART HEARTS

The way to the heart is definitely through the stomach... and with just four ingredients, these perfect pastry puds are a dream to make so why not treat that special someone to some ‘sweet love’ on Valentine's Day?!

Ingredients

Makes four (4½ Syns per tart) 100g ready-rolled reduced-fat puff pastry 8 tsp fat-free natural fromage frais 8 small fresh strawberries, hulled and thinly sliced ½ level tsp icing sugar Find this recipe and many more at www.slimmingworld.co.uk

Method

• Pre-heat your oven to 220°C/fan 200°C/gas 7. • Cut out four hearts measuring about 8cm x 8cm from the pastry using a heart-shaped cutter (or use a template made from card). Using a sharp knife, score a 0.25cm border around the edges, taking care not to cut through the pastry. • Put the pastry hearts in a baking tray lined with non stick baking paper and bake for 10-12 minutes or until risen and golden. Leave to cool. • Press down the middle of each piece of pastry to create heart-shaped nests. Spoon the fromage frais into each tartlet, top with the strawberries and evenly dust with icing sugar to serve. 40 34

FENCHURCH HOUSE CARE HOME IN SPALDING

“A very strong example of what a care home should be”

M

oving to a care home can feel daunting at any time but especially during the pandemic. At Fenchurch House Care Home in Spalding, dedicated Customer Relations Advisor, Morgan Hicks, is the first point of contact for families who are making an enquiry for care. Morgan’s role is to help people through the whole journey of coming into the care home, answering any questions, organising the move in, and supporting people to settle into life at Fenchurch House. One resident who recently spent time at Fenchurch House for respite care explains, “This place is a very strong example of what a care home should be. On researching the home, a vast amount of thought has gone into the overall planning, with gracious décor and facilities to keep the occupiers entertained as part of their recuperation. The staff have a warm attitude, stemming from ‘flash’ meetings every morning to make sure the home is properly run. A well-organised, well-run establishment.” Morgan is a ‘Dementia Friend’ and keen to share her knowledge and experience of caring for people living with dementia. Whether it’s signposting, assistance and advice or just a friendly ear, Morgan is happy to talk through anything you need. Commenting on the activities that residents had enjoyed over the festive period, one family member said, “Well done to your staff; your care and commitment is appreciated by our family, one and all. So wonderful to see my dad laughing and wearing a Christmas hat again. He absolutely loves Christmas and always made our Christmases full of love and laughter.”

When new residents join the family at Fenchurch House, the Home Manager, Suria Webb, oversees their care plan, together with the specialist care team. The Wellbeing Team get to know people too, helping people to continue to enjoy hobbies and activities that are important to them. Everyone in the home is there to help people make the most of life, and Morgan will continue to support people and their families, ensuring important events and milestones are marked and celebrated. “Fenchurch House is designed with a five-star hotel in mind, with modern facilities, yet a welcoming and homely feel. It is as glamorous as it is comfortable, and our aim is for our home to become an extension of yours. Our team ensure people are relaxed and cared for throughout day and night and we love getting to know our residents, as they become part of the Fenchurch family,” said Morgan. “We completely understand how difficult it is for families to make the huge decision to move a loved one to a care home, especially during this difficult time. We can help people to choose the right home for them by sending them videos and showing them the room that their family member will move into. My advice is to call and speak to us. No question is too small. We can help with everything, from funding through to letting you know about mealtimes and haircuts,” Morgan went on to explain. If you have any questions about moving into a care home or would like to find out more about Fenchurch House Care Home in Spalding, contact Customer Relations Advisor, Morgan Hicks, on 01775 711 959 or e-mail morgan.hicks@countrycourtcare.com. “We’ll Do You the World of Good” says Marika at Travel Counsellors

W

e all know that a holiday will do us the world of good after months of living in a more limited way. Travel is one of the strongest forces for good that we have. Many of the destinations I arrange holidays to are highly dependent on tourism and have experienced a devastating impact from the recent lack of international travel. We are very keen to support these places when it is safe to do so; they’re some of the most magical countries in the world and we can help them get back on their feet, whilst we enjoy the warmest of welcomes.

Advice

Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire Helping with Mental Health Issues

P

ractical advice from Citizens Advice has been shown to help reduce people’s mental health issues and problems, both locally and over the entire country, on a daily basis. It is well known that people’s mental health problems can be made worse by practical issues such as losing a job or facing eviction. Clearly, help with these issues, alongside treatment, stops mental health problems from getting worse, and improves recovery rates, particularly at the moment, when unprecedented changes are happening to people. Eight out of ten mental health staff have reported that helping with practical issues means that they have less time to focus on treatment. A small section of the NHS is acting on this evidence, and there is huge potential to do more. At a time of significant pressure on local government budgets, and rising demand for local services, there is a renewed call for integrated services in health settings. Integrated advice can: ■ Reduce

pressure on local services by stopping people’s practical problems from escalating, and building resilience.

One issue is that people with mental health problems are more likely to struggle with their essential services, whether it is an issue with their energy supply, a mobile phone contract, or paying rent. Also, access to safe, secure housing is crucial for people to maintain good health.

■ Support

This can be hard to find for people with mental health problems, and there has been an increase in people needing advice about rent arrears; the increase is particularly large for clients with mental health problems.

On average, Citizens Advice clients with mental health problems need advice on more than five issues each – this is significantly more than for clients in general.

Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire has been working harder than ever through the pandemic, primarily on the phone, so that people can get the help and advice they need on 0800 144 8848.

Pets and Vets

Eye Problems

O

ne of the most common problems we see in veterinary practice is a red eye in dogs, cats, rabbits and especially guinea pigs. The eye is sore and itchy, and pets will commonly rub their faces with their paws or try to rub along furniture and carpets. Often, they are squinting, and the eye is half shut. A sticky discharge may be coming from the corner of the eye and the membranes of the inside of the eye (the conjunctiva) can be red and swollen.

Usually, this is due to conjunctivitis, an infection of the eyelids, and this can be quickly resolved with antibiotic eyedrops. Infections can be caught from other pets or by dust and dirt getting into the eye carrying bacteria. Allergies can also cause red eye and it may be that steroid drops are needed to cool the inflammation and make your pet more comfortable again. One of the checks that is made on red eyes is to drop in fluorescent eye drops. If the clear part of the eye (the cornea) is damaged, these drops will accumulate in the wound and will glow under light. This is known as a corneal ulcer. Thorns, bits of hay or straw, claw scratches and foreign bodies can all cause damage to the cornea and which is why smaller pets often end up with eye ulcers. Some animals have extra lashes around the eye that scratch the cornea continuously. Care is needed to prevent shampoos going in the eye, as chemicals can cause ulcers as well. If there is no foreign body such as a thorn still stuck in the eye, most ulcers will heal quickly, as long as the wound is kept infection-free. Your vet will

50

Wise Words By Deirdre Wilson

usually prescribe antibiotic eye drops or cream to help the healing process. Pain relief may also be needed to make your pet more comfortable and some pets may need to wear ‘the cone of shame’ to prevent them rubbing at the eye too much. Some ulcers do become more difficult to heal. The edge of an ulcer can develop a lip which prevents new tissue filling the void and this is known as an indolent ulcer. Different types of eye drops, or surgical techniques, may be needed to clear this lip and encourage healing. Melting ulcers occur because of infections within the cornea. The infection produces enzymes which dissolve the corneal tissue to digest it, and at its worst can rupture the front of the eye. A particularly useful technique is to collect the animal’s own blood serum and use this as eyedrops to inactivate these enzymes. Most red eye problems are fairly easy to treat and heal well, but some take a lot more time and involvement. Never ignore a sore eye; early treatment is the key.

Your Finances

Buy! Sell! Buy! Sell!!

D

BY MATTHEW BIGGS – FINANCIAL PLANNER

oes your idea of investing involve people standing around shouting at each other and making random hand gestures, trying to get the best price for whatever it is they are buying or selling? If it is, believe me – you are not alone!

Before I entered the financial services industry, I thought this was how it worked and the mere thought of it put me off the idea of investing, as it all seemed very confusing and, quite frankly, intimidating. However, I was relieved to find out that, when it comes to investing, the above scenario could not be further from the truth. In fact, the concept of investing is a very straightforward, relaxing approach – providing it is done correctly. For me, this means taking time with clients to make sure they are educated on the process of investing. There are lots of ways of investing

52

Deepings

your money and there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” approach. It is essential that I fully understand the client’s willingness to invest and the level of risk they are prepared to take. The biggest stumbling block I find is not everyone is prepared to accept risk – and this is perfectly normal. However, I believe this is mainly due to the fact they have not been educated on what investment risk really means and how it would work in the real world. There are, of course, perils and pitfalls when it comes to investing, but this is where we work together to make sure the clients are comfortable with and, most importantly, understand any agreed investment approach. If you have considered investing, but have been unsure of how or where to start, please contact our office on 01778 342291 to arrange a FREE initial consultation with one of our friendly and experienced Financial Planners.

Mayor

WORDS FROM THE

Mayor of Market Deeping

COUNCILLOR JOSHUA YARHAM

2021 has started with promising news about the roll-out of the vaccines in the UK

I

t has been proposed that fifteen million citizens will have been vaccinated by February 15th, those being the most vulnerable to Covid-19. This is promising news and outlines a path back to normality, hopefully, by the summer. Spalding’s Springfield Centre was to have opened on January 15th to the public, and vaccines are being distributed at an impressive pace.

The national lockdown the Prime Minister announced at the beginning of the year is a frustration to us all, but only when we work together and stay at home will we be able to see loved ones, play sport, and return to a routine that resembles times before the pandemic. The Deepings Practice has urged people not to contact them in relation to when a vaccine invitation will be sent. I support that message entirely and strongly advise all residents of Market Deeping to wait patiently to be contacted. The wait will not be much longer, and we have collectively done so well for so long, that with the light at the end of the tunnel, it would be counter-productive to waste all the progress we have made throughout 2020. 54

Deepings

The Council has carried on conducting its meetings via Zoom and it has proved to be an efficient way of completing the work and facilitating communication. The agenda of a ‘Digitial Council’ has moved forward with the ordering of tablets. This endeavour will dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of the Council on the area and almost negate the need to have paper copies of meeting bundles in the future. All Councillors are now working from their new e-mail addresses. Please find those addresses on our new website, https://market-deeping.parish.lincolnshire.gov.uk. Unfortunately, I have not been to any events past the Remembrance services in November due to the restrictions in place. I look forward to being able to visit more areas of the community once these restrictions are lifted. The Town Council has finalised the precepted budget preparations for the 2021/22 financial year and a very modest increase will be shown in your Council Tax bill. I hope that you are all staying in good health and I look forward to seeing you in the very near future, out and about in Market Deeping. FE BR U A R Y 2 0 2 1
