his is a real heart-warming story about the big guys helping the little guys to survive in the post-Covid world. A couple of months ago, offers started to appear on a few of my business networking groups. They were media companies offering free advertising to smaller companies to help them bounce back from the hit that coronavirus has dealt to the economy.

Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I applied for a few - The Metro newspaper, the Mail on Sunday and Sky TV. All of them worked in a similar way; you put your name forward with a bit of information about the company and then waited to see if your name got drawn from the hat. Fast forward to the first week of June, a friend of mine ‘won’ an advert in the Metro. I was a little jealous. Then an e-mail dropped in from Sky Adsmart, telling me I had been selected as part of their SME250 campaign and I was going to get £10,000 of free advertising. I was ecstatic, but equally I didn’t know anything about television advertising, other than it costs several million dollars to get an advert in the Superbowl half time show every year. I told Dan, my marketing guy, and he was sceptical, explaining, “It’s going to cost at least that to create the advert and they will probably tie you in to a campaign across several months that will cost tens of thousands.” Ever the optimist, but with Dan’s words of warning ringing in my ears, I made the call. Andy from the Sky Adsmart team talked me through the offer. I could have a £10,000 advertising campaign that would run across 154 Sky channels to my target audience throughout July. The catch … I had to produce a

thirty- second TV advert. As he said, I had to “have some skin in the game.” Andy was upfront about Sky’s motives; they wanted to bring on board new advertisers, but only if it was right for their business. I told him I didn’t have the first clue about creating a TV advert, so he introduced me to Josh at Trett Films. Josh took me through the process and the costs which had been capped by Sky for the offer. So, I went for it. We worked together to create something which I had always aspired to do - a TV commercial for Will & Probate Services and it premiered on July 1st. If you haven’t caught it on Sky or our social media, you can see the ad on our website www.will-probate.co.uk.
