The welfare of our hands during this

coronavirus outbreak has become paramount. Your hands tell the world how healthy you are, how old you are, and how well you take care of yourself. Now, we are diligently washing and sanitising our hands, so they are certainly clean, but beautiful hands do not usually just happen. Nails and hands need hydrating, moisturising and protecting from the elements.

Here are our top tips on how you can make your hands your best accessory

1Keep them clean – Strong detergents and cleaning products can strip the natural oils from your hands that keep them youthful and healthy, and leaving them covered in dry, peeling skin. Use a good quality anti-bacterial hand wash and exfoliate your hands two or three times a week with a gentle exfoliator. We would recommend Decleor 1000 Grain Exfoliator which can be used all over the body.

2Moisturise - It’s the skin on the back of your hands that will become thin and wrinkly long before your palms, so apply your hand cream to the back of your hands and only use the excess on the palms. A good quality hand cream will not leave your hands sticky and greasy. Each time you use your anti-ageing cream and serum on your face, rub the excess into the backs of your hands. As you are now washing your hands so often, make a point of moisturising the backs of your hands before bed each night. We would recommend Decleor anti-ageing hand cream. 3 Care for your cuticles – Healthy cuticles cultivate healthy nails. Make sure you rub your moisturiser into the nail and cuticle as well as your hands. Use a cuticle oil daily; this will keep the nail hydrated and promote youthful looking hands. We would recommend Orly Argon Oil Cuticle Care.

4Problem nails – There are five different nail types so it’s very important that if you have problem nails you establish the right formula for you. Using the wrong treatment will either elevate the problem or make no difference at all. Our therapists are trained to assess your nails and recommend the correct formula for you, depending on your nails’ needs. Regular use of the correct formula will solve the problem within six weeks.

5Nourish, protect, polish - Beautifully polished nails promote a well-groomed appearance and can create a more youthful appearance. A base coat is really important to protect the nail bed. Whilst the polish will help protect the nail from the elements, your nails also need time to breathe. If you can’t face showing them off without a polish, then make sure you use a cuticle oil on a regular basis and always remove polish with a nonacetone remover. If you are looking for a longer-lasting polish, soft gel polishes can be professionally applied at our salon and they will protect the nail and last for up to fourteen days. Hard gel polish will last much longer and can also be used to “build” the nail for more even or longer length.
