YAXLEY INFANTS
COVID-19 ADVENTURES 2020 As you know the UK locked down in March 2020 which meant we had to get creative when running guide meeting. So we took to Zoom meetings to keep our guiding going, we under took quizzes, played the pillow case game and the new favourite online game is Knife, Fork and Spoon (which is great fun and can be used for all ages). We also made mug cakes, clay models and armpit fudge (but best not do this again on the hottest day of the year – it tasted amazing but was more like cake topping than hard fudge). The guides all took on the challenge to work for badges at home these include, 75th VE day celebration and what guides did in the war, Geo-Caching, Whittling and Mixology to name just a few.
Now that the government has relaxed it rules we held our first face to meeting on 12 August – fully socially distanced of course. We under took a scavenger hunt and made s ‘Mores - marshmallows toasted over tea light then sandwiched between chocolate biscuits, which we all enjoyed. For the remainder of 2020 we plan to have a combination of face to face every two weeks (outside for now) but may start using our amazing building again once more lock down restrictions are lifted. On our non- face to face weeks we will continue with our Zoom adventures.
LITTLE ACORNS DAY NURSERY AND MONTESSORI SCHOOL We have had a busy month with the children settling in to their new classrooms. The children have enjoyed lots of autumnthemed craft activities and being outdoors; exploring the leaves falling from the trees. We are looking forward to celebrating Halloween when we will be having spooky fun and party games with our friends. If you would like to come and have a look around or are interested in a space please contact the nursery on 01733 244000 or enquiries@littleacorns-daynursery.co.uk

Despite the COVID pandemic and social distancing restrictions YIS were able to offer a 'meet your teacher' for those children who started with us in September. Parents were able to bring their children to the school playground where they met their new teachers and support staff whilst maintaining a social distance. It was lovely to see all of our new children before we broke up for the summer. Over the summer we went through lots of different changes. You may have noticed when you walked by our school or spent time in the park lots of scaffolding around our school building. After years of waiting patiently we finally managed to get to the top of the DfE building list. Work began on our roof in the summer holiday to re-felt, insulate and install new ceiling windows onto our roof. Unfortunately during the storms in late August we had a major flood. Members of staff arrived to find water-soaked furniture, carpets sodden and children’s trays full of water. Luckily there were a few members of staff who were able to come in at the drop of a hat to salvage what they could. Teachers then had into come in during
Floods, YIS Heroes and Welcoming our Children Back. the school holidays to get the classrooms ready for September. To all those Yaxley Infant School heroes (and you know who you are), thank You. Before the Summer holiday we received the sad news that one of our Teachers was diagnosed with a serious illness. One of the children in her class took it upon herself to raise money by running a marathon in stages. School staff even joined in running in the summer holiday! In next month’s issue we report how successful this Yaxley Hero has been in raising money. September saw children come back into school with smiley faces, a skip in their step and brand-new uniforms. It was lovely to see all our children after having had so much time off school. Reception children new to school also had a successful induction into school. Every year Reception children surprise us with their resilience and ability to cope with such a massive change in their young lives. A massive “Well Done” to all of the Reception children (and parents) for beginning their school lives in such a positive fashion. We look forward to nurturing our young learners in the years to come. The YIS Team x
