LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
F
or those of you who were unable to attend the February TPOA Board meeting, we had a special guest in Bexar County Commissioner Kevin Wolff. The Commissioner had been wanting to come to speak to our association for quite some time, but either his scheduling or ours prevented it. But as luck would have it, his schedule freed up right before the meeting so he was able to attend to discuss issues and answer questions. Of course the recent and big issue he personally dealt with that impacted all of us in Timberwood Park involves the long-awaited expansion of US-281. After about a decade of political and other delays, Commissioner Wolff took a lead role not just in getting the project funded and moving, but getting it funded with a combination of county, city and state dollars without it being a toll road. And for those of you don’t remember, Commissioner Wolff was actually a member of the San Antonio City Council in 2008 when the City of San Antonio was aggressively targeting Timberwood Park for annexation. Working with our association board members at the time and other concerned residents, Wolff was a major proponent of and fought for the non-annexation agreement in which Timberwood Park will not be annexed before the year 2034. We thank the Commissioner for his time, his interest in Timberwood Park, and the access we have to his office and staff. We will also arrange for him to come speak at another meeting in the future. At that meeting we also reported on the financial health of the association as we always do, and I am happy to say that our association is very financially healthy. I can’t honestly speak to the finances of other HOAs, but I assume it’s a safe bet that few, if any, have cash balances of just under $800,000, including over $250,000 in reserves. And if they do, it’s not likely that the member dues are as low as the $217 annual assessments we pay. The Board will continue working to be good stewards of the association’s funds and will keep you involved in and aware of efforts to reinvest those funds into the community. It’s hard to believe that another pool season will be upon us next month! While the water is still going to be too cold for me until later in the spring or early summer, the pool will officially open on Friday, April 20.
See the information in this newsletter on how and when to purchase your pool passes, and how to apply for a lifeguard position. There will also be a Music in the Park concert that night, and many thanks again to Karen O’Neil and Chris Martinez for their great work to put together the best concert lineup we’ve had yet! While most of us simply just show up and enjoy the show, Karen and Chris spend countless hours throughout the year reviewing different bands, booking the best ones, and negotiating with them to ensure we have a great concert season that stays within our entertainment budget. Lastly, for those of you who did not hear, the TPOA Board and community suffered a heartbreaking loss on February 7 with the sudden passing of Michael Dimmitt, husband of Board member Paula Dimmitt. Michael and Paula moved from Dallas to Timberwood Park in 2007 to spend their retirement years closer to their son Michael and his family, who also live in the neighborhood. Since then, Michael and Paula have been fixtures at community events and Board meetings, and have always been our most dedicated volunteers. Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served four years of active duty and was an Office of Special Investigations (OSI) Agent, and he spent nearly 40 years as a middle school teacher in the Dallas ISD. He was a truly kind man and a consummate gentleman. And while he was a man of few words, he was always quick with a kind word or a joke. I will miss seeing him in the front row at Board meetings and visiting with him afterward (as he and Paula always stayed behind to help put up the tables and chairs), at the park during his daily walks with their dog, and at the community events whether he was relaxing and enjoying the event or working as a volunteer. On behalf of the TPOA Board, staff and many friends and neighbors throughout the community, I continue to wish Paula and her family Alland Meetings heldcondolences. at 7:00 p.m. atHethewas a our deepest most are sincere fine man, friend andClubhouse neighbor to us. atall theofPark.
