The central objective pursued here is to describe the situation of a 17 year-old juvenile offender, who has been deprived of his liberty in the Centro de Formación Juvenil del Valle in Cali, regarding his re-education process inside the institution, which, together with the Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar, attempts to provide an answer to his rights (as established in Colombian law 1098). The author considered discovering, through a case study, what the institution and the minor had to say about the actions imposed for his re-socialization. Therefore, two interviews were made: one to the minor, and another one to the person in charge of the vocational- technical education. The author proceeded with and analysis of the correspondence between the State’s duty, and the subject’s reality.
