Shadowland: New Digs & A Play In Eleanor Burgess’ new play The Niceties, a black student visits her white professor during office hours to discuss her paper on the American Revolution. Originally premiered at the Huntington Theatre, Boston, before transferring to Manhattan Theatre Club, this timely new play, directed by Jammie Patton, is the inaugural production at Shadowland Stages new black box theatre, The Studio at Shadowland Stages, located

The Studio at Shadowland Stages was created out of a building donated by Kate Konigisor Hal & Joan Brill in 2011. “We’ve now been able to fully complete the project making it suitable for our own productions as well as sharing it with the community through reduced price rentals,” explained Managing Director Elena Holy. “It’s a fully-equipped black box space - unique to our area (outside of the facilities at local colleges and universities).”

“Greater Tuna” in Goshen

Greater Tuna is the first in a series of four comedic plays about a radio station set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas, the “third-smallest” town in the state.

The series was written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard.

The plays are at once an affectionate comment on small-town, Southern life and attitudes, but also a withering satire of same.

Joan’s “Collections” in Lords Valley

Joan Polishook’s latest exhibit of works, Collections, offers a wide variety of themes.

Painting in oil, the artist expresses her love of nature on paper and canvas, her fascination with rustic barns in the rural countryside, her amusing character portraits, and illustrated poetic works.

Joan’s work has appeared in newspapers, magazines and on book covers. Most recently, her oil on paper, Woodland Scenes, a personal challenge project during the pandemic, was

exhibited at the Wayne County Arts Alliance.

Joan’s work is regularly displayed at the Milford Branch of the Pike County Library, with collections of her work in private, corporate, organizational and museum venues in the United States and abroad.

Collections runs at the Gallery at Chant Realtors, 631 Route 739, Lords Valley, from November 1 to December 27. An opening reception will be held on November 6, from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

“Stirring Performances of Rare Repertory” in Montgomery Praised for their “stirring performances of rare repertory” (Fanfare), the husband and wife team of Anna and Dmitri Shelest traces its roots to Ukraine’s prestigious Kharkiv Special Music School. At their Carnegie Hall debut in February, 2018, the duo’s CD release of Ukrainian Rhapsody brought renewed international attention to the music of their homeland. Subsequently, that recording has been featured as the Album of the Week on radio stations throughout the U.S., including WCRB (Boston) and KUSC (Los Angeles).

Having been classmates since middle school, the artists began performing together after their marriage in the U.S. Their inventive programs brought them to a broad array of venues from concert stages to state functions, and, in the words of Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, “realized diplomacy through music.”

Sheldon Soffer Memorial Arts Fund The Forestburgh Playhouse, in conjunction with friends of Sheldon thru Catskills Pride, has announced the creation of the Sheldon Soffer Memorial Arts Fund, to honor the memory and legacy of Sheldon Soffer, a longtime community member of Wayne and Sullivan counties and esteemed Arts Manager and mentor to generations of performers and arts professionals.

Over his career, Soffer led the careers of artists including singers Elly Ameling, Robert Holl, Sarah Walker; conductors including Robert Spano, JoAnn Falletta, Margaret Hillis and David Alan Miller; musicians including the Empire Brass, and dance companies and choreographers including Pilobolus, MOMIZ, Twyla Tharp, Ballet West and Molissa Fenley.

A passionate advocate of arts education and the LGBTQIA+ community, Soffer believed in the arts as an avenue for vital change and societal growth. With this in mind, the Fund will be utilized to provide arts education opportunities for LGBTQIA+ and Ally Youth in

Original Vinyl Records Expands & Hosts RSD Black Friday Jim Eigo, owner of Original Vinyl Records (OVR) in Warwick has acquired the remaining inventory and amazing custom store fixtures from legendary Vintage Vinyl Records in Fords, NJ, which is shutting down after 42 whopping years.

After nearly the same time in the record business, Eigo is expanding with a new shop, at the same location: Original Vinyl Records Side A is located at 314 Route 94 #7, Warwick, and the new store, Original Vinyl Records Side B, is at 314 Route 94 #2.

OVR specializes in vinyl records, 45s, 78s, CDs, cassettes, 8-tracks, DVDs and vintage and contemporary audio equipment. Album inventory spans genres such as pop, nostalgia, oddball, lounge, space age bachelor pad, comedy, world music, kids, and related music books and memorabilia.

Soylent Green (1973) is an ecological dystopian thriller film directed by Richard Fleischer, and starring Charlton Heston, Leigh Taylor-Young and Edward G. Robinson in his final film role.

The film combines the investigation into the murder of a wealthy businessman and a dystopian future of dying oceans and year-round humidity, due to the greenhouse effect, resulting in pollution, poverty, overpopulation, euthanasia and depleted resources. In 1973, it won the Nebula Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film.

OCAC’s “Night Song” Magical Gala The Orange County Arts Council’s annual art affair is a magical immersive experience. Guests will wander through a mystical world of enchantment, created from ethereal dreams of the night, with drifting songs filling the air.

In a safe, ventilated and heated outdoor ballroom, attendees will enter into an ethereal world of dreams as created by artist Ed Manner. Fantastical works of art and atmospheric music will fill the space, inviting guests to wander and become part of the experience.

Songs of the night and performances are choreographed by Ralph M’Vore.

Refreshments, including wine and beer, will be served. A silent auction and raffle will add to the intrigue of the evening. This is also a free-form event; guests are welcome to explore and enjoy Night Song for as long as they please.
