SINGER OPPORTUNITIES! Orange, Sullivan and Pike County chorales have begun rehearsals for their spring concerts. New singers (for all voice parts - soprano, alto, tenor and bass) are always encouraged to join. Singers of all levels, from amateur to “trained” are welcomed. Each chorale has different guidelines and requirements. Some require auditions, some do not. Some require chorus members to read music, some do not. There is usually a small fee for membership. Singing Barbershop Harmony Want to sing barbershop harmony? The Middletown Men of Note welcome all men interested in singing 4-part harmony “a capella” at their ‘sit in and sing along’! Rehearsals take place every Wednesday at 7:00pm at Promenade Senior Care Facility, 70 Fulton Street at Academy Avenue, Middletown. Singing in Milford Music has long been recognized as a great therapeutic aid to increase well-being creating music doubly so! If you would like to increase your well-being, come and sing with the Delaware Valley Choral Society “where we will be performing a concert of spiritual renewal this spring - it will not only help you, but you will be giving your audience spiritual renewal as well.” The May concert will feature Bach’s Cantata No. 4 and Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living. In addition, a brand new choral work by local composer Jeri Sardella entitled, May the Lord Protect You will be premiered. Singing in Blooming Grove The Classic Choral Society, Janiece Kohler, Artistic Director, celebrates its 61st Anniversary this spring 2020. The 2020 spring concert will include Robert Schumann’s Missa Sacra, and Morton Laurdisen’s Lux Aeterna. New singers are always welcome. No audition required. Singing in New Windsor The Newburgh Chorale, under the direction of Michael Saunders, rehearses from 7:00pm-9:00pm every Tuesday at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 543 Union Avenue, New Windsor. The Chorale’s recent repertoire has included works by Malcolm Archer, Berlioz, Bernstein, Copland, Robert Frost, Holst, Ives, and John Rutter. Although auditions are not required, singers are expected to keep up with the pace of rehearsals, which requires some degree of musical literacy. Singing in Middletown The Middletown Concert Chorale rehearses from 7:00pm-9:00pm on Mondays at North Congregational UCC Church, 96 North Beacon Street, Middletown. This season the major work shall be Faure’s Requiem. “It will be conducted by Skyler Klein. We look forward to having anyone who enjoys singing join us,” said chorale member Rob Abramson. They rehearse on Tuesdays, 6:30pm8:30pm in Marsh Hall, First Presbyterian Church, 60 Sussex Street, Port Jervis. No formal audition nor music reading ability needed; some choral singing experience preferred. In addition, there are two Saturday morning rehearsals plus a dress rehearsal the day before the concert. The concert will be on March 29. All voice parts are needed. The only requirements are the ability to match pitch and availability to attend rehearsals regularly; it is not necessary for one to be able to read music. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays at 6:00pm in the Liberty Middle School, 145 Buckley Street. Interested parties may join on a trial basis for the first three rehearsals, but must meet with the director in advance to determine vocal part. Singing in Warwick Directed by Stanley Curtis and accompanied by Gail Johnson, the Warwick Valley Chorale season’s theme is Songs of Faith and Freedom. Selections range from Pavel Chesnokov’s Salvation is Created and Randall Thompson’s The Road Not Taken to Scott and Russell’s He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother and Paul Simon’s Bridge Over Troubled Water. Registrations begin at 6:30pm on January 28 & February 4 at Warwick Reformed Church, 16 Maple Avenue. Rehearsals are from 7:30pm-9:30pm every Tuesday. Concerts are on May 15 & 17, and at Carnegie Hall on June 15. Some ability to read music is desirable, but no auditions are required. Dues are charged.
