Questions asked at this meeting BRIAN RICHARDS - 5 WHEELER STREET, EAST DEVONPORT (D313723) Is there work currently being carried out at the old carpet factory, Tarleton Street. If so, is it a fact that the building has no ongoing rights and is situated in a closed residential area furthermore, asbestos signage has been placed on the fences. In addition, has it been recently sold at a giveaway price for preferred demolishment? Response The Mayor advised that the removal of asbestos is being undertaken with the supervision of Workplace Standards. The Acting General Manager advised that as this is private land Council is unable to comment on the cost of sale, if any. There has been no permit issued for building works. WENDY HILDITCH - 101 TARLETON STREET, EAST DEVONPORT (D313733) Does the Council guarantee the commitment and integrity given to the Eastern Shore Urban Design plan as per McConnell and Wagner (2004), that the rezoning of the area bordered on Tarleton, Brooke and Caroline Street will remain as Closed Residential as determined in 2006? Response The Acting General Manager advised that Council has made no deliberations on any changes, although there maybe consideration in the future. Under the Interim Planning Scheme it is zoned Residential and at this point there are no plans to make any changes. The Mayor advised that the land is currently zoned Residential, although a developer may request rezoning, until then it will remain as is. TONY BUTLER - 2 DREW STREET, EAST DEVONPORT Mr Butler stated that he has noticed truckloads of materials being taken onto the old carpet factory site. It is his belief that the owner of the property has been given the go ahead from someone in Council to undertake works. DOUGLAS JANNEY - 23 WATKINSON STREET, DEVONPORT (D313738) Item 13.4 Capital Works Report 1.

Why isn’t the Wright St/Thomas St round about complete?

2.

Sometime in the past Wright St was blocked to traffic south of the Murray/Wright Streets roundabout as part of the tactic to stop heavy traffic from travelling northwards through the shop section of Wright St. Recently it has been possible to travel south along Wright St south of

Page 5 of 9 Murray St so heavy vehicles could now go southwards through the shop strip. What is the rational for this change? 3.

The Steele/Sorell Streets intersection prioritization has been deleted from the program. What were the reasons for the deletion?

4.

Reference to the Capital Program 2013-14 bar charts shows that there are some 16 jobs behind schedule compared to only 7 in the October charts. The words in the “Commentary would not suggest this amount of slippage. Why is this slippage occurring?

Response The Acting General Manager advised that the questions would be taken on notice and a response provided in writing. KEVIN BASSETT - 49 HILLER STREET, DEVONPORT Mr Bassett said that there had been talk that the Visitor Information Centre should be transferred from the western side of Devonport to East Devonport. He suggests that the Gingerbread House be purchased by Council with a contribution of 70% State Government funding for use as an Information Centre and the start of a heritage trail. The current Visitor Information Centre should remain where it is. Mr Bassett stated that the tourist information pack which is handed out to passengers as they disembark from the Spirit at East Devonport is full of brochures and promotional material relating to other areas such as Launceston, Hobart etc, with only two businesses in the Devonport area being promoted. He suggested that the pack should be given to passengers when they board in Melbourne not when they arrive in Tasmania. Response The information was noted. 6.0
