INTRODUCTION

Welcome to The 1872 Opportunity Sale, we are excited to once again offer an exclusive set of cattle and frozen genetics. We believe that we have assembled a wide array of cattle that will compete in the show ring and excel when set into production. Our sale features rare genetics from some of the top producing sires and cow families in the Shorthorn breed. We are fortunate enough to include genetics sired by and bred to the deceased Eighteen Seventy Two and CCS Can’t Stop 43J. Cagwin Farms would like to thank all those that came through to view the cattle and for viewing our online offering.

Cagwin Farms retains the right to partner on a flush with the new buyer, at the buyers discretion, on all female lots selling in the sale. Cagwin Farms will also offer semen on any CCS bulls free of cost to open heifer buyers, if so desired.

418M was named Reserve Division Champion at the 2024 Illinois State Fair Open Shorthorn show, and it’s not hard to see why she was so competitive in that division. She exemplifies the type of females we were hoping to generate when we purchased Eighteen Seventy Two from Paint Valley Farms. We love how soft and pliable the center portion of her body is and yet she is still long

and extended from her jaw line to the base of her chest. Perhaps what truly captivates me about her though is when we set her into motion how flawlessly she is able to maneuver around the pen. Don’t miss out on the “Opportunity” to grab the lead of one of the best Eighteen Seventy Two daughters to sell this fall.

We hate to let one of our top Can’t Stop daughters go, but we felt that we needed to display the type of females that he could produce on first calf heifers like this one. Probably one of the most powerfully constructed and squarest built females that offers many different avenues when it comes time to breed her to the sire of your choosing.

An embryo purchase from Turners out of the “Where Future Generations are Created” sale. This female has been a stand out since birth and was set back a little after getting dehorned, but has continued to improve everyday she has been on feed. When we study this heifer her mere presence and awesome hair coat grab your attention right away. One of the most balanced females from the profile that has a picture perfect hip and hind leg that are sure to place her towards the top of the class at any show.

We have really admired our Fireball daughters in the pasture, because they have proven to be some of the best maternally driven females we have in production. We are discovering that they can make elite show heifer prospects too, like the 327M heifer. This one is great haired, and her cool color will definitely make her a stand out in the ring. Her added frame and dimension make me believe this one is going to look even better this time next year.

CCS DLJ AUGUSTA LINDA

One of my favorite cow families that we have utilized in our program has to be the Augusta

Lindas. The dam of this heifer produced a Reserve Division Champion for the Perkins family at Shorthorn Junior Nationals. 315M is a stout constructed female that ties a long neck high out of the top side of her shoulder, transitions down into a bold sprung rib cage and follows on back to a super functional hip and hind leg. Much like her mother, she’ll be an easy feeding one that is bound to produce the next great one with your prefix on it.

The Revival cow family needs no introduction and has sure seemed to work well here when mated to Eighteen Seventy Two. 425M is the one I have labeled the sleeper of the sale; she is also probably the one that has changed most since picture day. I really like this one’s long term skeletal quality, but don’t just take my word for it – come see her in person and bid with confidence. 7

Lot 7 is the oldest heifer in our offering, yet she may still be the greenest one as well. I love this female’s added frame size and neat design that’s going to make her a unique breeding piece as a big bred.

The youngest heifer in our offering is another prime example of what we have come to expect from our Eighteen Seventy Two calves. She unfortunately lost her tail switch out in the pasture, but that sure doesn’t take away from the quality that she possesses. I think this one has the pieces to be a real contender in the late spring division at any level.

43M was Reserve Division Champion at the 2024 ILSF Open Shorthorn Plus Show. 43M has been one of the most popular females in the barn by those that have come through. This unique mating sure seemed to work, as this heifer offers a maternal brood cow look without sacrificing the elegance and femininity that we like to see in our females that hit the show ring. Her mother

is nearly ten years old and has a marketable calf for us year after year. I suspect this one will have the same longevity in production as her mother too.

Conley No Limit

Maternal sib to Bratcher’s many-time champion 531 daughters. My embryo purchase from Bratcher’s online genetic sale may prove to be my best investment to date after seeing what these two full sisters look like as they continue to develop. The 304M female is the bigger framed, bettered haired one of the pair with a stellar hind leg and even more rib shape than her flush mate. Either way, you

daughters. My embryo purchase from Bratcher’s online genetic sale may prove to be my best investment to date after seeing what these two full sisters look like as they continue to develop. The 323M heifer is the stouter option of the No Limit daughters and stands on a bigger foot with more circumference of bone, and maybe has a little neater front-end design than her sister.

The Ruby cow family has been dominating the show ring for numerous programs as of late, and I expect nothing less from this Ruby 903 descendant. Study this one’s pedigree and you’ll see that it combines one of the top Maine bulls in the breed with multiple prolific Shorthorn cow families that have stood the test of time. 416M is one of my favorite Can’t Stop daughters that we raised here at Cagwin Farms. Her unique up head look and brood cow appearance will prove to be a wise investment that is sure to have a terrific return.
