Velkomen til Setesdal “Noreg tett på®” Dalen har århundrelange tradisjonar innan sylvsmedkunst og musikk. Endå eldre er dei vakre minerala du finn i utstillingar og ute i naturen. Musea gir mellom anna innføring i korleis jern vart produsert i vikingtida, om byggjeskikk, målarkunst, drakt og husflidstradisjonar i dalen. Landskapet varierer frå flate bygder til vilt og vakkert høgfjell, og vegen gjennom dalen går innom små og større tettstader. Rundt kvar ein sving ventar det nye inntrykk som får deg til å stoppe opp og nyte naturen og det fredelege miljøet. Vel mellom rolege dagar med badeliv, eller aktive dagar med rafting i fossande elvestryk. Nyt det flotte turterrenget, eller oppsøk dei mange attraksjonane i dalen. Naturen er fantastisk, og vi har han til låns for komande generasjonar. Far difor fint fram i naturen og ha fine dagar i Setesdal!
Welcome to the Setesdal Valley “Norway up close” Here you will find living silver handicraft and Musical traditions. In the countryside or at exhibitions, you can see minerals from “the beginning of time”. Iron production from the Viking Age, local building styles, art and handicraft are exhibited in the valley’s museums. The landscape varies from flat countryside to wild and beautiful mountains. The highway passes through many villages; round every curve new vistas await you. Choose peaceful days relaxing by your cabin or take a swim in the lake or a rafting tour in the foaming rapids. 8 VANDRING I SETESDAL | HIKING IN SETESDAL
Velkomen til vandring i Setesdal Vakkert landskap og fin natur legg til rette for gode tur-opplevingar i Setesdalsheiane. Gjennom heile dalen finn du gode moglegheiter for vandreturar. Frå Åseral og Evje, som ligg lengst sør i dalen, til Hovden i nord, kan du gå til toppar og få vid utsikt utover heia. I tillegg til dei korte merka rundturane, er det mange T-merka vandreruter som tar deg frå hytte til hytte.

På turistkontor, overnattingsstader og andre reiselivsverksemder i dalen kan du få detaljerte kart og informasjon om dei ulike turane. Har du planer om å vandre lengre turar utanfor oppmerka løyper er det naudsynt med større kart over områda.
Sesong for vandring
I Åseral, Evje og Bygland, som ligg lengst sør i dalen, kan vandringa gå frå snøsmeltinga i april og fram til fyrste snøfall i november/desember. Høgare oppover i dalen ligg snøen i terrenget til midten av mai. Snøsmeltinga fører med seg stor vassføring i bekkar og elver, og desse kan dermed bli vanskelege å krysse. Fleira av turane høgst i terrenget, som i Brokke og på Hovden, vil vi rå deg til å vente med til starten av juni. På hausten kjem den fyrste snøen i høgfjellet gjerne i midten av oktober. Vandring i høgfjellet, over 900 m.o.h, anbefalast i tidsrommet frå juni til oktober.
Walking and hiking in Setesdal The magnificent natural surroundings of the Setesdal valley make the ideal base for exploring the great outdoors. Amazing viewpoints await you. Throughout the valley there are excellent opportunities for walking and hiking. From Åseral and Evje in the south to Hovden in the north, amazing viewpoints await you. In addition to the short round trips, there are several hiking routes connecting the various cabins of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT)
Season
In Åseral, Evje and Bygland, the two southernmost communities in the valley, walking and hiking is possible from the melting of snow in April until the first snowfall in November/December. Further up in the valley the snow covers the ground until mid-May. During the melting period the rivers and streams run high – making crossing difficult in several places. For some of the hikes at higher elevations, such as Brokke and Hovden, we advise you to wait until early June. In the autumn the first mountain snow falls in mid-October. The hiking trails above 900 m.a.s.l. are therefore recommended during the period June–October.

The tourist offices, accommodation providers and other tourist enterprises in Setesdal may help you with detailed maps and information about the various walks and hikes. If you plan to take longer hikes outside the marked trails, you need a larger map of the mountain areas.

Åseral er ei populær bygd å feriere i – med eit mektig fjellandskap, flotte bade- og fiskeplassar, tilrettelagde tur- og sykkelløyper, unike kulturminne og populære årlege hendingar som Eikerapen Roots Festival og Haustmarknaden på Bortelid.
Hike the beautiful mountains, take a dip in one of many swimming spots, go fishing, explore the bike trails, visit cultural monuments or attend happenings such as the Eikerapen Roots Festival in July or the Autumn market in Bortelid in the beginning of October.

In Åseral you will find the southernmost mountain in Norway ranging over 1,000 meters above sea level, as well as Lordehytta (Lord Salvesen’s Cabin) and the geographical midpoint of Agder County. jernaldergardane i Europa. Sosteli var i drift nesten samanhengande frå om lag Kristi fødsel til år 1000 e.Kr. Oppe under fjellet kan ein framleis sjå tydelege spor etter gamle hustufter, åkrar og steingjerde som er vel to tusen år gamle. Arkeologiske funn syner at gardsfolket dreiv med jernvinne og fangst i tillegg til vanleg gardsdrift med åkerbruk og husdyrhald. Det er om lag 2 km frå Kyrkjebygda til Sosteli. Age farms in Europe. Sosteli was settled almost continuously from about the birth of Christ to 1000 AD. At the foot of the mountain you can still see traces from house foundations, fields and stone fences that are about two thousand years old. Archaeological finds show that the farmers produced iron and hunted – in addition to ordinary farming and livestock keeping. Sosteli is located about 2 kilometres from Kyrkjebygda. Skraddarburet - Buret til den segnomspunne Knut «Skraddar»
(som fekk dette tilnamnet sidan han hadde fått skreddarutdanning i ungdomen). Skraddarburet vert rekna som det eldste mellomalderbygget i tidlegare Vest-Agder fylke. Det står på den nedste garden, «Der Nede», i Austegard. For å kome dit må du frå Kyrkjebygda køyre mot Bortelid og så ta til høgre over brua på Lognavatn. Deretter køyrer du forbi Åknes og vidare over nok ei bru. Etter brua tek du til høgre og køyrer til vegs ende – då står du utanfor Skraddarburet.
Espelidburet - I Espelid finn du Espelidburet, eit stabbur frå 1600.

“Skraddarburet” - The storehouse of the legendary tailor
(skredder). Skraddarburet is reckoned as the oldest medieval building in the former county of Vest-Agder. It is located on the lowermost farm in Austegard. To get there, you have to drive from Kyrkjebygda to Bortelid and turn right crossing the bridge at Lognavatn. From there you pass Åknes and cross another bridge. After the bridge, turn right and drive to the very end – where you find the building “Skraddarburet”.
“Espelidburet” - In Espelid you find “Espelidburet”, a storehouse
Garden høyrer i dag til etterkomarar etter Knut Liestøl, son til Sigrid og Olav K. Liestøl. Du kjem til Espelid via Lognavatn. På Lognavatn tek du til høgre over brua, køyrer forbi Åknes og over ei ny bru. Etter brua køyrer du opp til enden av vegen, du er då i tunet i Espelid.
from around the year 1600. Today, the farm is owned by the descendants of professor Knut Liestøl, a respected Norwegian folklorist. You get to Espelid via Lognavatn. At Lognavatn you turn right over the bridge, you pass Åknes and then cross another bridge. After this bridge you drive to the very end of the road, to the yard of Espelid where the storehouse is located.
Lordehytta - Langt inne i fjellheimen ligg Lordehytta, reist av lord
“Lordehytta” – Lord Salvesen’s Cabin - Far into the mountains you
Salvesen på byrjinga av 1900-talet. Hytta har blitt eit ynda turistmål. Mange tek den lange vegen inn til Vivatn for å sjå på hytta som ruvar storslått og nærast magisk i det vidstrekte heieterrenget. Det er ein flott, men lang og ganske krevjande dagstur å gå til Lordehytta ved Vivatn. Det er mogleg å gå fleire ruter. Kart og kompass er anbefalt. Meir info om Lordehytta og korleis du kjem deg dit, kan du få på Minne kultursenter.
Steinfyllingsdammar ved Skjerkevatn - I 2018 blei to
nye steinfyllingsdammar ved Skjerkevatn ferdigstilte, dam Heddersvika og dam Skjerkevatn. Desse erstatta fem gamle betongdammar. Dei nye dammane gjorde at vasslinja i det opphavelege Skjerkevatn blei heva med 23 meter, slik at Skjerkevatn og dåverande Nåvatn no ser ut som eitt magasin. Steinfyllingsdammane er eit flott syn, og Agder Energi blei tildela heidersprisen «Damkrona 2018» for utmerka byggeskikk. I tillegg er vegen opp til dammen ei oppleving i seg sjølv.
find the cabin Lordehytta, built by Lord Salvesen at the beginning of the 1900s. A lot of people take the long hike to lake Vivatn to see the cabin that towers magnificently and almost magically on the vast moor. It is a nice, but quite long and hard day hike. However, there are several trail options. We recommend using a map and a compass. More information about Lordehytta and how to get there may be obtained from the tourist information at Minne kultursenter (Cultural Centre).
Stone-filled dams at Skjerkevatn - In 2018 two new
stone-filled dams were completed at Skjerkevatn, Dam Heddersvika and Dam Skjerkevatn, replacing five old concrete dams. The new dams raised the water level to 23 meters. Now the original Skjerkevatn and the former Nåvatn look like one reservoir. The stone-filled dams are an impressive sight, and Agder Energi received the award “Damkrona 2018” (“The Dam Crown 2018”) for excellent design. In addition, the road leading up to the dam is a scenic experience in itself.

Minne kultursenter og eplehagen - Åseral kommune
har ei rik kulturhistorie. På Minne kultursenter kan du lære meir om dette området. Kultursenteret ligg i eit vakkert bygg like ved kyrkja i Kyrkjebygda. Her finn du turistinformasjon, lokalhistorie i form av utstillingar med tilhøyrande dokumentarfilmar, kunstutstillingar, folkebibliotek, gåvebutikk og ein liten kafé. Du kan slappe av i eplehagen, det flotte uteområdet rundt kultursenteret. I løpet av juli månad er det ulike arrangement på Minne – sjå Facebook eller kommunen si heimeside dersom du ønsker meir info om dette.
Ljosland Fjellhage - Fjellhagen er ein publikumshage for alle
fjellplantene i Noreg. Han ligg flott plassert i ein halvsirkel mellom Ljosland Fjellstove og elva. Gjennom heile området går det ein fint opparbeida turveg som er tilgjengeleg for rullestolbrukarar. Det er plassert ut bord og benkar på området, så her er det flott å ta ein rastepause. Plantene i fjellhagen er i hovudsak typiske for snaufjellet i Agder, men også planter som ikkje veks i Agder, er med – inkludert nokre frå Svalbard. Fjellhagen er alltid open og gratis.
Steinfyllingsdam ved Langevatn - Flott steinfyllings-
dam ved Langevatn på Ljosland som blei ferdigstilt i 2020. Ny vasslinje er heva med 10 meter, og reguleringshøgda i Langevatn er 26 meter. Langevatn på Ljosland er portalen til Setesdal Vesthei og utgangspunkt for fleire av DNT sine raudmerka turar. Parkeringsplassen ved dammen i Gloppedalen er eit fint utgangspunkt for sykkeltur langs Langevatn eller vandretur innover i heia. Frå enden av vegen er det 3 km inn til heiegarden Pytten, som ligg like over grensa til Bygland kommune.
Juvassdammen - Juvassdammen stod ferdig i 1958 og er 46 meter høg. På det tidspunktet skal han ha vore den høgaste dammen i sitt slag (kombinasjon bue og plate) i Nord-Europa. Magasinet kan ta heile 142 millionar kubikkmeter vatn. Frå demninga har du ei fantastisk utsikt. Går du over demninga, er det ein flott tur inn til Juvasstøl. Stien, som går langs vatnet, er ikkje merka, men er lett å følgje. Køyreturen opp byr på mange flotte naturopplevingar, og det er framkomeleg mesteparten av året. Vinterstid kan det vera utfordrande på grunn av snø og glatte vegar.
Eikerapen kulturgard - Eikerapen Gjestegard har, i samarbeid
med Innovasjon Norge og EquiConnector, etablert Eikerapen Kulturgard – eit levande gardsmuseum med hest i sentrum. I tillegg til satsinga på hest og rideaktivitetar blir det fokusert på lokal kulturarv gjennom bruk av gamle reiskapar, mattradisjonar og talemål. Her kan du delta på aktivitetsopplegg som inkluderer hest, eller ta turen innom smia og bakstehuset. I «Buret» kan du sjå utstillinga av reiskapar knytte til landbruk. Minne kultursenter – the Cultural Centre and the Apple Garden - Åseral has a rich cultural history. We recommend a
visit to the Minne Cultural Centre, which is located in a beautiful building next to the church in Kyrkjebygda. Here you find the tourist information, art exhibitions, a library, a gift shop, a small café, exhibitions and documentary films covering local history. Relax in the Apple Garden – the great outdoor area surrounding the Cultural Centre. In the month of July there are various events going on there – check Facebook or the website of Åseral municipality if you need more information.
Ljosland fjellhage – mountain garden - The mountain
garden contains the entire mountain flora of Norway and is open to the public. It is nicely situated in a semi-circle between Ljosland Fjellstove and the river, with a path accessible for wheelchair users. Tables and benches are placed in the area, making it convenient for a picnic break. The plants in the mountain garden are mainly from the mountain areas above the treeline in Agder County, but there are also plants which do not grow locally – including some from the Arctic island of Svalbard. The mountain garden is always open, and the entrance is free.
Stone-filled dam at Langevatn - The large, stone-filled dam
at Langevatn in Ljosland was completed in 2020. The water level has been raised by 10 metres, and the variation in water level is 26 metres. Langevatn in Ljosland is the gateway to Setesdal Vesthei (the western mountains of Setesdal) and starting point for several of the red-marked trails of The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT). The parking area for the dam in Gloppedalen is a nice starting point for bicycle trips along Langevatn or for a hike in the mountains. From the end of the road there are 3 kilometres to the mountain farm Pytten, barely crossing the border into Bygland municipality.
Juvassdammen - The Dam Juvass was completed in 1958 and is
46 metres high. At that time, it was considered to be the highest dam of its kind (combination bow and plate) in Northern Europe. The reservoir has a capacity of 142 million cubic metres of water. Magnificent views from the dam. If you cross it by foot, it is a nice walk to Juvasstøl. The path, which follows the shoreline, is not marked, but is easy to find. The scenic road to the dam is accessible most of the year. In the winter, however, it may be challenging due to snow and slippery roads.
Eikerapen Cultural Farm - The accommodation facility Eikera-
pen Gjestegard has, in cooperation with Innovation Norway and EquiConnector, established Eikerapen Cultural Farm. This is a farming museum mainly focusing on horses and equestrian activities, but also on local cultural heritage through the use of old tools, food traditions and the local dialect. You may take part in horse-related activities, or stop by the blacksmith and the bakehouse in the garden. In the storehouse “Buret” there is an exhibition of tools used for agriculture. Frisbeegolf - På Bortelid kan du prøve deg på frisbeegolf. I området aust for skisenteret finn du ein flott bane med 18 korger. Frisbeegolf er ein aktivitet som passar for alle og som krev svært lite utstyr. Alt som må til, er ein frisbee – så er du klar for ein morosam aktivitet! Har du ikkje frisbee frå før, kan dette kjøpast på butikken på Bortelid. Dersom du tek alle 18 korgene, har du fått deg ein flott tur på om lag 3,5 km. Dei fyrste ni korgene ligg i lett kupert terreng aust for skisenteret, og er ein fin runde for nybyrjarar. Held du fram med å spele på korg 9–18, blir terrenget meir kupert, og dette gjer spelet meir krevjande. Stikk innom servicekontoret på Bortelid eller ring 38 13 34 00 dersom du har lyst til å prøve deg.

Frisbee golf - In Bortelid you may try frisbee golf. In the area east of
the skiing facilities there is a large course with 18 baskets. Frisbee golf is an activity that suits everyone and requires only a minimum of equipment. All you need is a frisbee! If you don’t have your own, you may buy one at the store in Bortelid. If you use all the 18 baskets, you will have a great walk of about 3,5 kilometres. The first nine baskets are located in slightly hilly terrain east of the skiing facility and is a great round for beginners. If you continue with baskets 9 through 18, the terrain gets even hillier and makes for a more challenging game. Sykling - Skardehei er eit aktivitetsområde i sentrum av Bortelid med
flotte løyper som er tilrettelagde for terrengsykling. Løypa går over Skardeheitoppen, som ligg rett i underkant av 600 moh. med utsikt over heile Bortelid hyttegrend. Vil du ha ein litt mindre krevjande tur, er det mange andre turvegar som er fine til sykling. Sjå www.bortelid.no for fleire forslag. På Ljosland kan du parkere bilen i Gloppedalen og sykle langs Langevatn på ny, fin turveg innover til Fosstjønn. Det er dessutan fleire turløyper i området rundt Farevatn som er godt eigna for sykling. Det er mogleg å leige sykkel på Ljosland og Bortelid. Klatring - På Bortelid er det tilrettelagt for klatring ved Kvitevatn,

Her finn du sandstrand, benkar og bord, grillplass, sandvolleyballbane og toalett. I Åknes, like ved Åknes kapell på Lognavatn, finn du ein av Åseral sine beste badeplassar med sandstrand, benkar og bord, grillar, sandvolleyballbane og toalettanlegg. På Bortelid finn du sandstrender som er fine for barnefamiliar, ved Rundatjønn og Bortelidtjønna. I Murtebekken, som går frå sentrum og sørover ned til Murtetjønn, er det mange fine badekulpar. På Ljosland er det fine badekulpar i elva ved Ljosland Fjellstove, når vasstanden er låg. Du kan også lauga deg i Ljoslandsvatnet ved hyttefeltet i Kløystøl eller i fossen mellom Tjønna og Langevatn.
Minigolf - Tek du turen til Eikerapen, kan du prøve ut minigolf-
banen som ligg like ved Eikerapen Gjestegard. Eit slag minigolf kan du også få på Bortelid. Banen her har 9 hull og ligg i sentrum. Stikk innom servicekontoret der eller ring 38 13 34 00 dersom du har lyst til å prøve deg.
Biking - Skardehei is an activity area in the centre of Bortelid, with great
tracks suitable for mountain biking. The tracks include the hill Skardeheitoppen, at about 600 meters above sea level, with a view the Bortelid cabin village. If you want a less demanding trip, a number of local hiking trails are suitable for biking. See www.bortelid.no for more options. In Ljosland you may park your car in Gloppedalen, and then bike along the lake Langevatn on a nice, new trail to the lake Fosstjønn. Climbing - Climbing spots in Bortelid are Kvitevatn, Stedjejuvet and

Fishing spots - There are several opportunities for fishing throughout
the municipality. In the southern end of the lake Ljoslandsvatnet in Ljosland, by the lake Rundatjønn in Bortelid and in Torsland, just south of Kyrkjebygda, you will find fishing spots with parking space, tables and benches. More information and an interactive map on www.inatur.no Choose the freshwater fishing option and search for “Åseral fiskeadministrasjon”. There you can choose what type of fishing permit you will buy and pay with your bank card.
Swimming spots - Excellent swimming spots can be found all
around Åseral, but please note that most waterways are regulated. In Kyrkjebygda there are two great swimming spots not far from the town hall, called Lislehylen and Storehylen, with sandy beaches, benches and tables, a barbecue area, a sand volleyball court and public restrooms. In Lognavatn, close to the chapel, you will find one of Åseral’s finest swimming spots, with a sandy beach, benches and tables, a barbecue area, a sand volleyball court and public restrooms. Bortelid offers sandy beaches that are great for families with children, by the lakes Rundatjønn and Bortelidtjønna. Along the stream Murtebekken, running south from the centre of Bortelid, there are several natural deep pools. In Ljosland there are nice natural deep pools along the river, by the accommodation facility Ljosland Fjellstove, when the water level is low. You may also take a dip in the lake Ljoslandsvatnet, by the cabin village in Kløystøl, or in the waterfall between Tjønna and Langevatn.
Mini golf - If you visit Eikerapen, you have the chance to try the mini
golf course next to the accommodation facility Eikerapen Gjestegard. It is also possible to play mini golf in Bortelid. The course has nine holes and is located in the centre of the village. Visit the service office there, or call +47 38 13 34 00 if you want to try this activity.

Evje is known for the spectacular rafting on the Otra river, beautiful walking trails and a great variety of outdoor activities.
Aktivitetar som passar for både barn og vaksne, omfattar rafting, kanopadling, to klatreparkar, familievennlige campingplassar, badeplassar, sykkelløyper og mykje meir. Og alt dette er i nærleiken av Evje sentrum. Vi anbefaler òg eit besøk til Evje Mineralsti og til Mineralparken, sidan denne delen av Norge er kjent for sine rike mineralførekomstar. Området har ulike typar overnattingsmoglegheiter, og Evje sentrum har eit stort utval av butikkar.
Activities for both children and adults include white water rafting, canoeing, two adventure parks in the trees, many family-friendly camping sites, swimming spots, cycling trails and a lot more. All of which is within short distance of central Evje. It is also recommended to visit the Evje Mineral Trail and the Mineral Park as the area is renowned for its abundance of minerals. The district has various types of accommodation, and the centre of Evje has a variety of shops.

Oddestemmen Steinsliperi er Noregs einaste smykkestein-
sliperi og har spesialisert seg på sliping av norske mineral og steinmaterialar. Thulitt, eklogitt og larvikitt er nokre av dei finaste smykkesteinane i Noreg, og spesielt den sjeldne Evje-amazonitten frå Landsverkgruva vert slipt til vakre steinar og fatta i smykke laga i bedrifta si eiga sylvsmie. I “Steinbua” på Oddestemmen finst eit stort utval av produkt laga i eigen verkstad. I tillegg har butikken mineral, fossil og smykkesteinar frå heile verda. Omvising i steinsliperiet for gjestene på campingplassen.
Evjemoen Forsvarsmuseum viser forsvarets historie i Evje
og Hornnes kommune frå 1911 til 2003. Museet har også ei utstilling om 2. verdskrig med vekt på Agder, og viser ulike typar våpen og køyretøy, handvåpen og uniformer. Ei avdeling handlar om Jørgen Løvland, som sidan blei statsminister. Ta av frå rv. 9 mot Evjemoen.
Odden hageanlegg - Odden hageanlegg er bygd opp omkring
ulike tema. Mellom vassfall og dammar ligg rosehagen med over hundre ulike roser. Den japansk inspirerte hagen ved fiskedammen er tilplanta med rododendron, ulike staudar og formklypte buskar. Det er òg ein eigen “mosehage” med lokale mosevariantar og bregner. Alt er naturleg integrert i ein fureskog. Hageanlegget ligg på Odden Camping like sør for Evje sentrum.

minerals, in particular by the display of an impressive collection of local rocks. The many gems in the collection are unique in Norway. This museum also features a rose painting exhibition, an old schoolroom and the oldest pharmacy in Setesdal.
Oddestemmen Steinsliperi is Norway’s only gemstone
polishing workshop, specializing in Norwegian minerals and stone materials. Thulite, eclogite and larvikite are some of the finest Norwegian gemstones, and especially the rare Evje amazonite from the Landsverk Mine is polished into beautiful gems and turned into pieces of jewellery in the silversmith’s workshop on the premises. In the “Steinbua” at Oddestemmen you’ll find a large selection of these products, as well as minerals, fossils and gemstones from all over the world. Evjemoen Defence Museum shows the history of the
Norwegian defence in the district of Evje og Hornnes in the period between 1911 and 2003. In addition, the museum features an exhibition on World War II, with emphasis on the district of Agder, and shows various types of weaponry and vehicles, hand weaponry and uniforms. Turn off rv. 9 and continue towards Evjemoen.
Odden Gardens comprises several theme gardens, including a
rose garden with more that 100 different varieties of roses as well as a waterfall and dams; a Japanese-inspired garden with fishing pond, rhododendrons, various perennials and trimmed bushes; a moss garden with local varieties of moss and ferns. The gardens are located at Odden Camping, Evje, and are naturally integrated in a pine forest.

Innsjøen Byglandsfjorden strekkjer seg fra Syrtveitsfossen i sør og nordover til Bygland, heile 34 km. Dette gir fantastiske moglegheiter for rekreasjon. Du finn flotte badestrender nesten overalt, og kan fiske både aure og dverglaksen bleke. Dampskipet Bjoren har faste turer på Byglandsfjorden. Ose har berre ein handfull fastbuande, men er vertskap for fleire store arrangement om sommaren. Her finn du og Reiårsfossen som er eit mektig syn. Du finn gode overnattingsalternativ langs vegen og du er tett på naturog kulturopplevingar.
The lake Byglandsfjorden extends from the Syrtveitsfossen waterfall in the south to Bygland in the north, a distance of 34 km. This allows for wonderful recreation opportunities. There are numerous idyllic swimming and sunbathing spots along the lake, and if you prefer fishing, the local catch includes trout and a dwarf salmon strain known as bleke. The steamboat Bjoren has a regular route on Byglandsfjorden. Very few people live permanently at Ose, but the village hosts several large events during the summer. The magnificent waterfall Reiårsfossen is located here. There are several good accommodation alternatives along the road, located in idyllic surroundings and close to cultural attractions.

D/S Bjoren - Ein tur med den gamle vedfyrte dampbåten Bjoren frå
Bygland Museum er eit friluftsmuseum med gamle
gardsbygningar frå bygda. Den store årestoga frå 1650, med sitt trolske ljos frå ljoren i taket, gjev oss eit glimt tilbake til korleis folk levde i mellomalderen. Museet ligg rett ved sida av dampskipsbryggja, der D/S Bjoren legg til kai. Ei flott badestrand og ein ladestasjon for elbilar gjer museet veleigna for ein pause langs vegen.
Landeskogen Peace Center ligg i Grendi i Byglandsfjord, eit globalt møte- og konferansesenter for miljø, utvikling og fredsspørsmål. Sjølve hovudbygget er på 5000 m2, og er ein praktbygning med lang historie. Innvendig finn du stort selskaps- og konferanserom, hyggeleg kafé, fredsbibliotek og fleire utstillingsrom. På det 300 mål store naturområdet som høyrer til, er fine vandrestiar og fredstiar. Her ligg også godt til rette for terrengsykling. Reiårsfossen er ein over 200 meter høg foss som ligg ved
riksveg 9 rett sør for Ose. Reiårsfossen fekk namnet sitt etter ein av husmannsgutane i bygda, Reiår (gamal skrivemåte for Reidar), som hadde forelska seg i ei gardjente på Ose. For å få denne jenta sette bonden som vilkår at Reiår skulle ri over den øvste delen av fossen tre gonger. Det gjorde han, men segna fortel at han ville ta ein tur til over fossen til ære for den komande brura. Diverre fekk dette fatale følgjer, sidan både hesten og Reiår fall ned og mista livet. Ved stor vassføring er fossen eit flott syn og frå rasteplassen like nedanfor fossen, kan du sjå han godt.
D/S Bjoren - A trip with the old wood-fired steamer from 1867 is a
Bygland Museum - is an open-air museum with old, local farm
buildings. The large open-hearth house from 1650, with its magic light from the smoke vent in the ceiling, gives us an impression of life in the Middle Ages. The museum is situated next to the steamboat pier, mooring place for the D/S «Bjoren». A lovely beach and an EV charging station make the museum a most suitable stop for a break.
Landeskogen Peace Center a global conference centre
dedicated to issues regarding environment, development and peace, is located at Grendi in Byglandsfjord. The imposing 5000 m2 main building has a long history, featuring function and conference rooms, a nice cafeteria, a peace library and several exhibition rooms. On the 75-acre premises surrounding Landeskogen you’ll find idyllic walking paths – the peace paths. The area is also well suited for off-road cycling. Upon arrangement you may get a free guided tour of the peace centre, including a lecture by the founder of Active Peace Travels, Helga Arntzen. Reiårsfossen is a 200-metre waterfall next to the road RV 9, just
south of the village Ose in Setesdal. The waterfall got its name from a local boy called Reiår (the old spelling of the Norwegian name Reidar). Coming from a poor smallholding, he fell in love with the daughter of a farmer in Ose. However, the farmer would only accept him as a match for his daughter if he crossed the upper part of the waterfall on horseback three times. Reiår did so, but according to legend he wanted to make an additional crossing to honour the bride-to-be. Unfortunately, this ended on a tragic note, as both the horse and Reiår fell down the waterfall and lost their lives. The waterfall is an impressive sight, especially during periods of snowmelt and heavy rain. From the picnic area at the bottom of the waterfall, you get an excellent view of it.

det ei rekkje fine badeplassar. Du finn svaberg og sandstrender. Vatnet er klart og reint. Dei høgaste temperaturane finn du i grunne bukter. I Bygland sentrum er det offentleg badeplass med flott sandstrand og stupetårn på flåte. I dette flotte området finn du og Bygland museum og Brygga kafè.
Fisking - flott fangst i Otra - I Otra og Byglandsfjorden,
og i vassdraga rundt, er det godt fiske. I Byglandsfjorden finst ein eigen lakseart som kallast bleke. Elles i elvar og vassdrag finst det aure, røye og abbor. Det er eitt fiskekort for heile Otravassdraget, og det er mogeleg å dra på fiskesafari med heile familien. Dei siste åra er fisken blitt større, og det er mogeleg å få stor fisk fleire stader. Opplysning om fiske og kjøp av fiskekort kan du få i sportsforretningar, bensinstasjonar og campingplassar i området.

Swimming spots - Along the river Otra, and particularly around the lake of Byglandsfjord, you will find many excellent places to go swimming, with sandy beaches or smooth rocks. The water is crystal clear and you find the highest temperatures in the shallowest waters. In the centre of Bygland there is a public swimming area with an idyllic beach and a diving raft. This area is also home to the Bygland Museum and the Brygga cafeteria. Parking next to the road rv. 9.
Angling - Great catches in the Otra - One single fishing
licence is all you need for the entire Otra river system. Take your familily on a fishing safari! Over the past few years, the fish have grown in size, and it is possible to catch specimens weighing over one kilo. Information and fishing permits are available at sports shops, petrol stations and campgrounds.

Ose - Ose er ein liten tettstad like ved riksveg 9 nord i Bygland
kommune. Her har det vore skysstasjon sidan 1887. På Ose finn du eit sjeldan bygnings- og kulturmiljø med mellom anna Storstoga, eit forsamlingslokale bygd av tømmer som vart felt heilt tilbake til vinteren 1655/56 og Ose Turistheim, som vart bygd i 1909. Framleis er denne i drift, med både servering av heimelaga tradisjonsmat og innkvartering. Rett sør for Ose ligg Reiårsfossen, som er verd ein pause i seg sjølv.

Ose is known for its special building traditions and cultural activities, which include the guest house Ose Turistheim, constructed in 1909 and still in service, and Storstoga, a village hall made of large timber logged in the winter of 1655/56. Den vedfyrte dampbåten Bjoren er bygget av Akers mek Verksted i 1867, og er et flytende kulturminne. DS Bjoren hadde sin storhetstid i årene 1867–1957, og seiler nå på Byglandsfjorden og Åraksfjorden i perioden mai–august, normalt 2 timers turer. Den har plass til 55 passasjerer, og har skjenkebevilling for øl og vin. Det er muligheter for å chartre båten, i tillegg til at det settes opp åpne turer hver søndag fra juni til august. Det er populært å reise en strekning med DS Bjoren som avbrekk i bussturer, sykkelturer, eller chartre båten i anledning firmaturer, bryllup, familietreff, festivaler o.s.v. The DS Bjoren was in regular service between 1867 and 1957, and now sails on the lakes of Byglandsfjorden and Åraksfjorden from May to August, normally two hour trips. The boat seats 55 persons, and is licensed for beer and wine. The steamer may be chartered, and in addition, special sailings are offered on Sundays during the summer season. A sailing on board the DS Bjoren can be a pleasant break during a bus or biketrip. Spennande fiske i Otravassdraget Med fiskekort frå Otra Fiskelag kan du fiske i heile elva frå Kilefjorden i sør, til Hartevatn ved Hovden i nord. I heile vassdraget er det god bestand av aure av varierande kvalitet og storleik. I Byglandsfjorden og sør til Kilefjorden finst den særeigne laksestamma bleke (Byglandsfjordbleka). Sjølv om bleka vanlegvis ikkje vert større enn 250 gram er det ein attraktiv sportsfisk. Sør for Fennefossen i Evje finst abbor. I øvre delar av Otravassdraget finst ørekyt. Exciting angling in the Otra River With a fishing licence from Otra Fiskelag, you can angle in the Otra River all the way from Kilefjorden to the south to the lake of Hartevatn near Hovden to the north. The river has a large stock of trout, of different qualities and sizes. In the lake of Byglandsfjorden and down to Kilefjorden is a local species of salmon calle bleke. This fish rarely weighs more than 250 g, but is an attractive catch for anglers. Perch is found south of the Fennesfoss waterfall near Evje. There are minnows in the upper part of the river, but please note that the use of minnows as bait is prohibited. Otra Fiskelag is working to improve the condition of fi sh as well as the angling conditions in the Otra River. With a fishing licence from Otra fishing authority, you have a permit to angle with all kinds of hand tackle, including a drag otter from land or boat. Fishing licences are available at tourist information offices, petrol stations, sports shops and places of accommodation. The site is well suited for tents, caravans and caravanettes, and has more than 200 power supply points. We have 31 cabins in the categories 2–5* sleeping 4–8 persons. Velkommen til Valle og Rysstad Midt i dalen passar det å stoppe opp og nyte av natur- og kulturopplevingar. Valle kommune har god plass. På 1290 km² bur det omlag 1300 innbyggjarar. Busetnaden er konsentrert i dalbotnen der Otra renn på sin veg mot kysten. På båe sider av dalbotnen ligg fjellvidder milevis innover. Her kan ein finne ro, “lade batteria” og samle nye krefter til ein travel kvardag.
Sylvsmedkunst - Valle kommune er sjølve «Sylvsmedriket» i
Noreg. På ei reise i Setesdal lyt ein få med seg eit besøk hjå sylvsmeden. Litt historikk: Tusenårig jernvinne gav bondesmeden grunnlag for å leite fram edle metall. På Straume i Hylestad sokn vart det opna kopargruver så tidleg som på midten av 1600-talet. Dei fyrste sylvsmedane nytta truleg sylv som var stole frå sylvgruvene på Kongsberg. Teknikken veksla mellom hamring, gravering, formrenning og filigran. Alle reiskap laga smedane sjølve. I dag er loddelampa avløyst av propan, og materialane får ein ferdige som tråd, plate og slaglodd, men arbeidsgangen elles er lite endra frå gamal tid. Setesdalsbunaden krev mykje sylv, ulikt for kvardag og høgtid. Sylvsmedkunsten blømde opp, og tel i dag omlag 35 personar på heil- og deltid. Det vert kvart år arbeidd mengder av fleire typar bunadssylv, og utvikla hundrevis av nye smykkemodellar til bruk på vanlege klede. Welcome to Valle/Rysstad Half way up the valley, Valle/Rysstad is a good place to stop and enjoy everything the surroundings and the local culture have to offer. There is plenty of space in the Valle area, with 1300 inhabitants in 1290 square kilometres. People live in the valley, where the river Otra winds its way towards the coast. On both sides of the valley are miles and miles of mountain areas. Here you can enjoy peace and quiet to “re-charge your batteries”.
Silversmithing - Valle Municipality is the silversmithing capital of Norway.
On your way through Setesdal, be sure to visit one of the silversmiths. A little history: After having extracted iron for thousands of years, the peasant smiths gradually started the search for more precious metals. A copper mine was opened at Straume, near Rysstad, 400 years ago. Silver, however, had to be acquired elsewhere, and the first silversmiths probably used raw materials stolen from the silver mine in the town of Kongsberg. The silver-smiths today use various techniques, including hammering, engraving, casting and filigree. The smiths used to make all their tools themselves. At present, torch lamps have been replaced by propane, and materials are available in the form of thread, plates and hard solder. However, the production process is largely the same today as in former times. The Setesdal costume requires a lot of silver, and traditionally different ornaments were worn for everyday use and formal occasions. The art of making silver flourished - especially in the Hylestad area. At present, about 35 persons work full or part time as silversmiths. They produce various kinds of jewellery for national costumes and create new designs for plain clothes. Handmade silver jewellery from Setesdal is highly competitive with manufactured silver products both with respect tobeauty and price. Råbyggjelaget er det gamle namnet på dei indre og vestre bygder i Aust-Agder, og hovudfokus er draktskikken i dette området. Utstillinga gjev oss glimt frå kvardagslivet, men fokuserer mest på livshøgtider som dåp, konfirmasjon og bryllaup. Tablå med dokker, i kombinasjon med tekster og eit rikhaldig biletmateriale, gjer fortida levande for oss. Rygnestad museum - This is one of the most distinctive
museumsanlegga i landet. Tunet ligg i vakre omgjevnader på den fredelege garden Rygnestad, omlag 9 km nord for Valle sentrum. Det autentiske tunet omfattar m.a. hus og gjenstandar etter segnhelten Åsmund Torleivson Rygnestad (ca. 1540–ca.1595), eller “VondeÅsmund” som han vart kalla. Særleg kjent er det såkalla Rygnestadloftet. Der kan du sjå dei eineståande og sjeldne tekstilbonadene – måleri som er måla på vevd tøy - frå 1500talet. Desse har vore på garden i snart 400 år. Tømmeret i dette loftet har enorme dimensjonar. Byggjemåten til Trihågeloftet er heilt spesiell med tre etasjar, noko som var svært uvanleg. Det var fem slike loft i Valle, men berre det på Rygnestad står att der det vart bygd.

The farm comprises buildings and artefacts which once belonged to Åsmund Torleivson Rygnestad, known as ’’Vonde Åsmund’’ (Evil Åsmund). Inside the well-known old storehouse, Rygnestadloftet, there are paintings on woven cloth dating back to the 16th century. They have been kept at the farm for almost 400 years. The timber at Rygnestadloftet has enormous dimensions. The design of the building – with three storeys – is rather unique. Of five such buildings in Valle, only the one at Rygnestad remains at its original site.

Folk music and dance in Setesdal
Folkemusikkmiljøet i Setesdal er på mange måtar eineståande i landssamanheng. Her lever slåttespel på hardingfele og munnharpe i ein ubroten tradisjon. Det same gjer kveding av stev og gangardansen. Mange av dagens utøvarar har lært seg kunsten direkte av eldre menneske – men òg i samband med kursaktivitet. Folkemusikken er eit av varemerka for Setesdal som folk ventar å møte når dei besøker dalen, og du kan i dag høyre og sjå utøvarar på ulike arrangement. Denne kulturarven ligg no på UNESCOs liste for immateriell kulturarv.
The Setesdal folk music scene is in many ways unique in a national context. There is an unbroken tradition of folk tunes played on Hardanger fiddle and Jew’s harp. The same applies to the staves and folk dances. For many of today’s performers this knowledge has been passed on from the older generation – but also from workshops and courses. Folk music is one of the Setesdal «brands»; something people expect to meet on their journey through the valley – and which they often get a chance to do, as a number of such cultural events are being held. This cultural heritage is listed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Sylvartun - eit senter for immateriell kulturarv
Du finn Sylvartun ca. 4 km. nord for Rysstad sentrum og er ein del av Setesdalsmuseet.. Frå etableringa i 1961 til ut på 2000-talet var Sylvartun den sentrale sylvsmed- og folkemusikkarenaen i Setesdal. Bjørgumsylvet hadde ry på seg for å vere av det beste, og eit møte med innehavar, spelemann, sylvsmed og kulturberar Torleiv H. Bjørgum blei for mange eit minne for livet. Etter å ha vore stengt sidan 2010 har anlegget på nytt blitt eit aktivitetstilbod til folk som besøker dalen. Sylvsmeden er der ikkje lenger, men folkemusikken lever. Gjennom utstillingar av tradisjonelle folkemusikkinstrument, film og lyd blir du tatt med på ei kulturhistorisk reise inn i folkemusikken.
Ein ny generasjon held kulturen i hevd
Eit kjennemerke for Setesdal er levande tradisjonar, og sidan desember 2019 har folkemusikk, dans og kveding i Setesdal vore oppført på UNESCO si representative liste over immateriell kulturarv. Gjennom eit samarbeid mellom Visit Setesdal og Setesdalsmuseet vert det kvar sommar sett saman eit lag av unge folkemusikarar og dansarar som gjev gratiskonsertar og opptredenar på ulike plassar i Setesdal. Konsertane varer om lag ein halv time, og gjev deg ein liten smakebit av den rike kulturarven som desse unge utøvarane tek vare på. Tid og stad vert publisert ved oppslag, på Facebook og på setesdalsmuseet.no og setesdal.com.
Sylvartun - a centre for intangible cultural heritage
Sylvartun is located approximately 4 kilometres north of Rysstad and is a section of the Setesdal Museum. Founded in 1961, this was the most important arena for silverwork and folk music in Setesdal for more than 40 years. The Bjørgum silver was said to be of the utmost quality, and an encounter with the owner of Sylvartun – the fiddler, silversmith and cultural ambassador Torleiv H. Bjørgum – made a lasting impression on many visitors. Having been closed since 2010, this centre has once more opened its doors for visitors. There is no longer a silversmith’s workshop on the premises, but the folk music is still alive. Through exhibitions of traditional musical instruments, audio and video recordings, you are taken on a journey into the world of folk music.
A new generation maintains the local culture
The valley of Setesdal is characterized by its living traditions. Since December 2019, folk music, dancing and «kveding» (the traditional song style of Setesdal) has been included in UNESCO’s representative list of immaterial cultural heritage. Through a collaboration between Visit Setesdal and The Setesdal Museum, a team of young folk musicians and dancers travels the valley each summer, offering free concerts and performances. The concerts last about 30 minutes, giving you a taste of the rich cultural heritage conveyed by these young artists. Klatring - Fjella i Valle kommune trekkjer fleire og fleire klatrarar kvart
år. Klatrarane kjem frå heile Europa. Det er over 200 klatreruter. Her kan alle finne ruter som passer perfekt. Solid granitt med utmerka friksjon gjer klatringa til ei ugløymande oppleving. Fleire av rutene er nyleg fornya med boltar i edelstål. På standplassane er det kjettingar. Det er gjeve ut eigen klatreførar på tysk. Forfattar er Hans Weninger. Via Ferrata klatreruter i Setesdal
Fjellklatring for dei fleste: Via Ferrata er italiensk og betyr jernsti. Dette er ei fastlagt klatrerute der du er sikra med jernvaier langs heile klatreruta. Det er også klatretrinn i dei brattaste fjellpartia som gjer det enkelt og sikkert å klatre. Straumsfjellet, Nord- Europas lengste Via Ferrata - Straumsfjellet ligg på Helle , berre 10 minuttar unna Valle. Dette er ein tur som krevjar at ein er i god fysisk form, og det hjelp at ein har erfaring frå luftige fjellturar slik at ein ikkje lar seg skremme av høgda. Klatreruta er 1,5 kilometer lang og har 550 høgdemeter. Det tek ca 7 timar å gå heile løypa. Frå toppen er det merka løype vidare til toppvarden på Strumsfjellet, 797 meter over havet. På toppen fortsetter merkinga vidare i austleg retning, og leiar deg trygt ned igjen. Tlf: +47 974 09 077. Løefjell, klatring for heile familien - Løefjell ligg nær Brokke Alpinsenter. Fjellet er gjennom mange år blitt bruka til fjellklatring, og er kjend for sine lange alpine ruter av ulik karakter. Somaren 2016 blei det bygd ein via ferrata i den same fjellveggen. Denne via ferrataen er svært godt egna for familiar og nybyrjarar. Born fra 6 år kan vere med på tur her. Dersom nokon i følget ikkje ynskjer å klatre til toppen, kan ein fylge den merka turløypa opp til toppen som ligg på 934 m.o.h. Klarteruta er 450 meter lang og tar mellom 1-2 timer å klatre. Nomelandsfjell, rett frå Valle sentrum - Denne via ferrata-ruta har nokon av Nord-Europas lengste svaruter, det vil sei glattslipte svaberg. Ruta er lang, har stor høgdeforskjell og flott panoramautsikt. Det er to ruter som følgjer den same vegen omlag halvvegs opp i fjellveggen. Siste halvdel av klatringa har brattare parti og to ruter med ulik vanskegrad. Klatringa krevjer at du er i god fysisk form og tåler høgder godt. Barn frå 11–12 år kan vere med, saman med føresatte. Climbing - The mountains in Valle attract more and more mountaineers every
year. The climbers arrive from all over Europe. With in excess of 200 climbing routes the area offers challenges for climbers regardless of previous experience. Solid granite with excellent friction makes climbing here an unforgetable adventure. Several of the routes have recently been equipped with stainless steel bolts. Belay stances have bolted chain protection. A climbing guide prepared by Hans Weninger has been issued by Panico Verlag, Germany. Via Ferrata climbing routes in Setesdal
Accessible climbing adventure - “Via ferrata” is Italian for iron road. This is a climbing route where you are secured to the rock by means of a steel cable. There are also iron rungs in the steepest sections, making the ascent safe and relatively simple. Straumsfjellet, the longest Via Ferrata in Northern Europe - Straumsfjellet is located near Valle and the meetup point is at Helle Camping. This activity requires a certain level of physical fitness, and experience from hiking in steep terrain is useful, considering one’s ability to tolerate heights. The climbing route to Mt. Straumsfjellet in Valle is 1.5 km long and spans 550 altitude metres. Climbing the entire route takes about 7 hours. The reward when you reach more level ground, with the Setesdalen valley far below, is one of the most spectacular views in Setesdal.From the final point of the cable there is a marked trail to the summit cairn at Mt. Straumsfjellet, 797 m.a.s.l. The marking continues further to the east, leading you safely down to the valley. Tlf: +47 974 09 077. Løefjell, climbing for the whole family- Overlooking the Brokke Alpine Centre, Mt. Løefjell has been popular among climbers for many years. It is famous for its long, alpine routes of varying difficulty. In the summer of 2016 a via ferrata was set up at Mt. Løefjell. This via ferrata is perfect for families and beginners, suitable for children aged 6 and upwards. Those who do not want to climb may instead follow the marked hiking trail to the top of the mountain, at 934 m.a.s.l. The via ferrata has a length of approximately 450 metres and takes between one and two hours to complete. The walk down to the Løefjell cabin area takes about half an hour. Nomelandsfjell, from central Valle - This via ferrata has some of the longest smooth rock sections in Northern Europe. The route is long, has a substantial difference in elevation and a wonderful panoramic view. The two routes start in the same place and follow the same route to approx. halfway up the smooth rock wall. The last half contains steeper sections with various routes and levels of difficulty. This activity requires physical fitness and the ability to tolerate heights. Children from age 11–12 may take part, accompanied by adults. Øvst i Setesdal finn du Bykle og Hovden, majestetisk plassert og omkransa av fjelltoppar på over 1.200 m.o.h. Her har du gode utsikter til å nyte livet i fjellheimen. Anten du er på veg nordover til fjordane eller sørover til sørlandskysten, finn du mange herlege plassar å stoppe her hos oss. Her er mange gode fiskevatn, og du finn fleire vandreruter på høgfjellet. Toppturane er ein populær familieaktivitet med diplom til alle deltakarar. På varme dagar er Hegni friluftsområde staden for bading, fiske, sykkel- og vandreturar. Der er det og eit spennande museum. Hovden Badeland & Spa er eit paradis for store og små heile året. Hovden er ein perfekt stad å overnatte før ferda går vidare. Sett av tid til ei runde på Ørnefjell Golfbane som ligg 720 moh. Den vakre naturen gir spelet ein ekstra dimensjon.
At the top of the Setesdal Valley, you find Bykle and Hovden, majestically located and surrounded by peaks that rise more than 1,200 m.a.s.l. The area offers great opportunities for enjoying life in the mountains. Whether you are northbound for the fjord country or southbound for the coast, you will find many good reasons for making a stop here with us. We have several good angling lakes and many hiking paths in the mountains. The tours of the peaks are popular outings for families, with a diploma for all participants. On warm days, the Hegni recreation area is the place for swimming, fishing, biking and hiking, or a visit to an interesting museum there. The Hovden Badeland & Spa leisure pool is a paradise for children of all ages the whole year. Hovden is a perfect place to make a stop-over. Treat yourself to a round of golf at the Ørnefjell (Eagle Mountain) Golf Course, 720 m.a.s.l., with the magnificent scenery adding an extra dimension to the sport.

Attraksjonar
Huldreheimen - Setesdal vart av mange sett på som ein slags
forhistorisk bit av Noreg. Skikkar og tradisjonar var del av den norske nasjonalarven, og hit kom folk for å oppleve ei svunnen tid. Mellom desse var skodespelaren Tore Segelcke og mannen Anton Raabe. I løpet av eit godt tiår etter at krigen var slutt bygde dei opp eit heilt lite bygdetun i bakkane ovanfor Bykle kyrkje. Der var dei kvar sommar og dyrka romantikken i dei gamle bygningane. No er anlegget restaurert, husa er innreidde på nytt, og museet ønskjer velkomen til eit noko anna slags bygdetun.
Hovden Jernvinnemuseum - Dette museet er bygd opp
kring ei rekonstruert blestertuft, og syner korleis produksjon av jern og kol gjekk føre seg for om lag 1000 år sidan. Der er spennande effektar som lyd, ljos, røyk og lukt, og ei stemning som set deg 1000 år tilbake i tida. “Vikingen” fortel deg historia si på norsk, tysk og engelsk.
Dammar
Vatnedalsdammen - Ein av Nord-europas høgaste fyllingsdammar ligg ca 15 km sør for Hovden. Det er to dammar med bilveg heilt fram, og dammen til venstre har stor parkeringsplass. Fritt tilgjenge og open når det er snøfritt. Dam Sarvsfossen - er den nyaste store utbyggingen av Otravassdraget. Dammen ligg like ved RV 9, nær Bykle sentrum. Det er skilta frå RV 9 og det er bilveg over dammen og gode moglegheiter for parkering. Dammen er 50 meter høg og 150 meter brei, og hevar vannhøga i Sarvsjuvet med 40 meter. Magasinet i Dam Sarvsfossen tek rundt 600 000 kubikkmeter vatn.
Byklestigen - 5 km sør for Bykle sentrum ligg Byklestigen. Så seint
som i 1879 kom det veg til Bykle som var køyrande med hest og kjerre. Stigen er ca. 1 km lang, går opp fjellsida, og var svært farefull å gå i gamle dagar. I dag er stigen restaurert, og det er sett opp illustrerte informasjonsskilt. Stigen er open heile barmarksesongen, og er fritt tilgjengeleg. Turen vil ta deg ca. 45 minutt.
Bykle gamle kyrkje - Dette er den eldste og mest særmerkte
kyrkja i Setesdal, bygd av rundtømmer og restaurert fleire gonger. Kyrkja med altar stammar frå 1619, og vart fullstendig renovert i 1804. I 1826 blei kyrkja rosemåla av Aslak Wasshus og K. Å. Byklum. Sommaren 1997 vart det gjort ei omfattande restaurering av rosemålinga.
Lislestog - Lislestog er eit friluftsmuseum som ligg like overfor
Bykle kyrkje. Museet er ei samling ulike gamle bygningar frå Setesdal, og fortel om byggjeskikk og levesett i førindustriell tid. I trivelig bonderomantisk miljø kan du ta ein pause langs vegen.

The old Bykle Church - The old Bykle Church is the oldest and
ancient Norway had been preserved. Customs and traditions formed part of the Norwegian national heritage, and visitors to the region came to experience a bygone era. Among these were Anton Raabe and the actor Tore Segelcke. Over a period of some ten years following the end of the war, they created their own little rural museum in the hills above Bykle Church. This was where they spent their summers, enjoying the romance of the old buildings. Today, the premises have been restored and the buildings redecorated, and visitors are welcomed to a somewhat different museum experience.

Hovden museum of iron production - This museum is built around a reconstructed melting facility, and shows how coal and iron were extracted in the early Middle Ages. The museum has no written information, but by means of sound, light, smoke and smells, the visitor will be taken on a tour one thousand years back in history. “The Viking’’ will tell you his story.
Dams
The Vatnedalen Dam is situated straight west of Berdalsbru, approx. 15 kilometres south of Hovden. You may drive all the way up. The reservoir has two dam structures, and the dam to the left has a large parking place where you also find a large information board. The Sarvsfossen Dam is the most recent development project in the Otra waterway system. It is located just outside the centre of Bykle. Follow the signs from RV 9. There is a road across the dam and good parking facilities. The dam is 50 metres high and has a length of 150 metres. It raises the water level in the Sarvsjuvet canyon with 40 metres. The reservoir of the Sarvsfossen Dam has a storage capacity of approximately 600 000 cubic metres of water.
Byklestigen path - Byklestigen is an old road which runs up the
hillside about 5 km south of the centre of Bykle. Up until 1879, it was the only road to Bykle from the south. The path is approximately 1 km long and very steep. It used to be quite dangerous, but has now been safeguarded. Boards provide information to the visitor. The path is open in the summer season with free admission. A walk along this old road takes about 45 minutes.
most distinctive church building in the Setesdal Valley. It is constructed of logs, and has been restored several times. The church with altar was built in 1619, and was completely renovated in 1804. In 1826, the church was decorated with traditional Norwegian rose painting by Aslak Wasshus and K. Å. Byklum. across the road from Bykle Church. The museum is a collection of old buildings from the Setesdal Valley, and shows the building style and way of life in pre-industrial times. Make a stop at this rustic-romantic place!

Hegni Friluftsområde - Ved Hartevatn, ca. 1 km. frå
Hovden sentrum ligg Hegni Friluftsområde. Dette er eit flott område med varierte tilbod av turstiar, leikeapparat, trampoline og sandvolleyballbane. Her kan du leige SUP-brett, kano, kajakk, robåtar og båt med motor. Fiskekort for Hartevatn får du også kjøpt her. Der er og ein kiosk og geodomen “The Village” serverer mat og drikke.
Fisking - Fiske frå land eller båt - Hovden har mange fine fiske-
område, der ein kan fiske med makk, sluk eller fluge. Ein kan gå inn til fine fjellvatn, eller halde seg langs elva Otra. Ved Hartevatn kan ein leige båt og fiske med oter eller garn. Alle plassane finn ein fin aure. Fiskekort for dei forskjellige områda får ein kjøpt på turistkontoret, og på Hegni Friluftsområde.
Sykkelturar - Frå Hegni Friluftsområde er det tre merka
sykkelruter. Den kortaste er ei enkel familieløype, der minstemann og kan vere med. Den lengste er ei utfordande løype med meir stigning, og med utfordrande stiar. På turistkontoret kan du få sykkelguide med kart.
Sykkelutleige - Hos Hovden Aktiv på Hovden Alpinsenter, kan du leige syklar. Det er både enkle offroad syklar, el-syklar og grove stisyklar. De siste kan også nyttast til downhill sykling. Det er også utleige av barnesyklar og sykkelvogn med plass til to born. Tlf: 37 93 94 04
Downhill sykling - På Hovden Alpinsenter er det laga til to
løyper for downhillsykling. Den eine er for nybegynnarar, den andre er noko meir avansert. Vi tilrår at du brukar downhillsyklar, og det er påbode å bruke hjelm når du syklar i løypene. Løypene startar på toppen av Nos, og endar opp i botnen av alpinanlegget. Dei er tilgjengelege når sommarheisen er open. Downhill med guide, ring 37 93 94 04
Golf - Ørnefjell Golfbane ligg vakkert til mellom vatn, bekkar og
fjell. Banen har 9 hol og par 68, men med ulike utslag på 1–9 og 10–18. Lengda på banen er 4561 frå gult utslag, og 3969 m frå raudt utslag. I tillegg til driving-range har vi putting-green og øvingsområde med sandbunker og chip-område. Hovden Golfklubb eig og driv banen. I høgsesongen er klubbhuset ope, og tilbyr enkel servering. Det er mogeleg å få kjøpt ballar og anna golfutstyr. Resten av sesongen er anlegget sjølvbetjent. Rulleski - I Hovden langrennsarena er det rulleskiløype i
Røyrvikåsen. På arenaen finn du løyper som passar for nybegynnerar og meir krevande løyper for viderkomande . Følg merking og skilting for trygg ferdsel i løypa. Hos Hovden Sport får du leigd rulleski og tilhøyrande utstyr.
Badeplassar - Langs Otra er det mange idylliske plassar for badeliv og soling. Finn deg din eigen lune stad langt frå andre folk, eller kos deg på stranda ved Hegni Friluftsområde. På gode sommardagar kjem temperaturen i Hartevatn ofte opp i +20 grader og kanskje meir, og det er eit yrande badeliv både i badebukta og langs moloen.

Hegni Recreation Area - Hegni Recreation Area is located by the lake of Hartevatn, approx. 1 km from the centre of Hovden. This is a pleasant area with hiking paths, playground equipment, trampoline, boat rental and sand volleyball court, in addition to a kiosk offering a café menu, or you can enjoy a good meal in the geodome.
Fishing - Hovden has many attractive fishing areas, where you can
fish with worms, spinners bait or flies. You can fish in the lovely mountain lakes, or in the river Otra. By Hartevatn, boats can be rented. All locations have good trout fishing. Fishing licences for the various areas can be obtained from the tourist office.
River Pool jumping - Join us in an exciting and fun activity, river pool jumping. Definitely an airy and refreshing experience. Roller Ski- The tracks are floodlit and range fr om those suitable for
children and beginners to the more challenging ones for elite skiers. The direction is counterclockwise, i.e. to the right from the car park / starting point. The track surface is marked with arrows indicating direction and level of difficulty.
Swimming spots - outdoor swimming at Hovden
Area. The shortest is a simple family route suited also for small children, while the longest is a demanding route with ascents and challenging paths. A bicycle guidebook with map is available at the tourist office.
Along the Otra, you can find many idyllic places where you can swim or sunbathe. Find an isolated spot or try the beach at Hegni with a kiosk that sells ice cream and soft drinks. On nice summer days, water temperatures in the lake of Hartevatn reach 20° and above, and the beach is teeming with people. This is a super area with walking paths, play facilities, trampoline and a beach volleyball court.

Downhill Biking - The Hovden Alpine Centre has two downhill
bike trails, one for beginners and one for more experienced mountain bikers. Downhill bikes are recommended, and the use of a helmet is mandatory. Starting point for both trails is the summit Nos, from where they follow separate routes to the bottom of the ski centre. The trails are accessible during the summer lift opening hours. Golf - Ørnefjell Golf Course is beautifully located in the midst of
lakes, streams and mountains. It is essentially a 9-hole course with a par score of 68, but has different tees for holes 1–9 and 10–18. The length of the course is 4561 metres from the yellow tee and 3969 metres from the red tee. In addition to the driving range, we have putting green and practice ground with sand bunker and chipping area. Hovden Golfklubb owns and maintains the course. The clubhouse is open during the peak season for the sale of light refreshments. You may also buy golf balls and other equipment there. Self-service at other times of the year. Fjellvåken skytesenter - Skyteanlegget har to trapbanar og
ei skeetbane for hagleskyting. I tillegg til leirdueskyting tilbyr senteret rifleskyting på 100-metersbane med grovkaliber på elektroniske skiver, og dei litt yngre gjestene kan prøve seg på finkaliberrifle og luftgevær. Ein kan bruke eigne våpen, eller leige våpen på skytesenteret. Erfaring er ikkje påkravd, og dyktige instruktørar sørgjer for tryggleik og rettleiing undervegs.

Chairlift - Take the chair lift to the top of Nos 1183 m above sea

Fjellvåken skytesenter - The shooting centre provides
shooting facilities with two trap ranges and one skeet range for shotgun use. In addition to clay pigeon shooting the centre offers rifle shooting on a 100-metre range, high calibre on electronic targets; and our younger guests may try out fine-calibre rifle and air gun. Weapons for rent at the shooting centre, or bring your own. No previous experience required, our skilful instructors guarantee safety and guidance. Shooting is a safe and incredibly exciting sport for people of all ages. This is one of the very few places in Europe which offer clay pigeon shooting without requiring membership in a club.
