CHIEF EDITOR´S NOTE We are a eHealty DesignLab! E-health is about finding functional and attractive solutions to solve peoples health problems with digital technology. In other word a dream case forDesignlabland that always strives to combine humanistic quests with modern techniques. And since this year's primary trend is PURE (read more about in Appendix: DESIGN WEEK 2012) we got the perfect mission to design Norrbottens stand/event for the E-health fair Vitalis, 17-19 April (Swedish Exhibition Centre Gothenburg). The purpose of the collaboration stand/event was to show another win win designcase where young creators gets the chance to visualize companies/organizations activities. But also to show the complex designprocess based on qualitative interviews, meetings, mobile- and mail conversations.

EVENT VITALIS 2012 IN GBG
28
W
e started the process already in 2011 with a brief meeting with Ulrika Backeström eventmanager at Norrbotten County Council Regional Development. Then we started to contact and interview the leaders and market managers from each of the ten organisations/companies/projects. Next up Dlab presented a first sketch of the designplan for Vitalis for all participants of the event. Then projectleader Ulrika Backeström presented the misson and the background in develeoping the Norrbotten E-health collaboration that took place last year 2011 at Vitalis. Backeströms purpose was to create a stand/event that lifted all the high standard competence/services that Norrbotten can present in the E-health genre. This since the conclusion from last year was that few visitors at Vitalis entered the Norrbotten stand- consisting of traditional solutions with printed cardbords with aluminium frames.
The designprocess - Pedagogic Visualization The goal for Vitalis was to pedagogically and esthetically show the county’s phenomenal ability to create distancespanning technologies in improving health care, social- and education services.
The organic circle of life became our designbase: both in intellective and graphical sense. This since the key word for the event was collaboration. In researching the field of health care we found great inspiration in Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) that used the rose diagram. The earliest known pie chart is generally credited to William Playfair’s Statistical Breviary of 1801. This invention was not widely used at first; the French engineer Charles Joseph Minard was one of the first to use it in 1858. It has been said that Florence Nightingale invented it, though in fact she popularised it. Hans Rosling is our modern inspiration in using graphic design showing statistics. E-health business works as a ecological solution to health problems – instead of moving patiens they can get medical assistance through their computers. E-health is also about the patiens getting help faster and safer. Instead of serching endless not quality assured links on the internet they will have licenced doctors validated answers.

E
-Health bar
We wanted both the stand participants and the visitors to feel an ease to meet and start talking. The name of the stand runs from the swedish question: ”Är du e-hälsobar?” In other words- are You open to socialize in an relaxed Ehealth environment? So the design of the eight individual companys/organisations/ projects ”bar counters” were shaped in a circle around the centerpiece consisting of an icesculpture from Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi. The challenge was to not block the ecological energy of the circle with any big walls - witch is the more common strategy in fair stands. The purpose of the plexi and steel construction crowning the stand was to create attention at the altitude (to create the visitors curiosity from distance. Creative Director Linda Backman choosed the aurora borealis (Northern Light) colour spectra for the graphic design. The subtile patterns in each pie chart is black-and –white X-ray photos. And the visitors was not only able to look att prints of the aurora but also to actually EAT the Northern Light coloured pie chart made of 100% Valhrona chocolate. To drink we offered lingon-and bluberry juice from Jokk.

E
vent mission: NORRBOTTEN BOAST!
To be able to market any kind of business, idea, project – well anything: you have to be able to find the core. So we started researching the E-health business in general. After that we studied the different partners webbsites to learn more before having personal meetings with keypersons of our partners. Then we summarized to be able to pose the the best questions in our qualitative interviews. Everyone got the task to write a boast. Some partners already knew their boasts – and some didn´t.
WebbTV/Vitalis
The initiative from Bengt Grahn at Compodium to make livestreaming from the stand – proved to be a success. Then we got attention and a natural activity in the stand. The PR consultant Thomas Riklund arranged interesting people to intervju live at the stand. For exampel a dialogue between Bill Crounse Senior Director Worldwide Health for the Microsoft Corporation* and Agneta Granström counsilor at Norrbottens County Council. In close and deep communication with finally find some copy boast for all partners. This proved to be an excellent way of training all participants to communicate their core to be able to boast about Norrbotten and our sucessful E-health collaborations between patients, county council, municipality and medical professionals. One of the most effective ways of getting information about what is up right now is to study store windows. And of course the big stores like NK and PUB have the resources and creative know how to make impressive displays. But the most creative window displays can pop up where you newer could expect. And since we work with E-health and the themes pure, health high-tech we specially study foodstands, pharmacys and technical gadgets.

FASHIONSHOP @ Arkitektmuséet by Fashionplay org

Fashion Play Org.* Fashion Play Org. had a small exhibition at Arkitekturmuseet. One of the exhibitiors was Kajsa G Eriksson that combines her work with the thesis ”In Passing: Street Fashion and the Creation of Meaning in Public Space” with a junior post at the School of Textiles in Borås. * Fashionplay is an artist driven platform for conceptual fashion, founded in 2006 by Therese Dahlqvist and Helena Hertov. The goal is to develop and strenghtening fashion as an artform and cultural expression. Fashion Play Org. works with own projects and exhibition productions in collaboration with other organizations. Knowledge intermediate between fashion and other areas are one important part of this goal. Dlab didn´t get there in time to se the art/fashion performanceso we just got to see the exhibition. So we missed getting a wider context to be able to get a good insight to Fashion Play Org. Important enough is the people that were there - and the opportunity to connect with other people with the interest in diving into the deep surface of fashion..

Designgalleriet: Emma Olbers The always hot and crowded Designgalleriets vernissage with Emma Olbers gave us further backup about the importance of conceptual thinkning, recyckling and the mission to work with local materials and designers. Emma Olbers had created different furnitures and interior objects out of felled trees from Stockholm city. With that strategy every object gets a local and global history. Old local trees becomes globally hot design. We ecpecially loved the doorstoppers in shape of diamants.

HEL YES * Well HEL YES – Dlab have a conceptual sisterhood with Finland! HEL YES! is a temporary restaurant and exhibition imagined and realised by a creative team of Finnish designers and food visionaries. HEL YES is a part of World Design Capital Helsinki 2012. HEL YES! is commissioned by the Finnish Institute in London. Unveiled 15 September in the Londonewcastle Depot in East London, HEL YES! served as a melting pot of people and ideas for 14 days during The London Design Festival 2010. And it was almost a scary flashback of Dlabs opening vernissage event The Cell in Luleå may 2010 - where we, just like HEL YES made a conceptual event created of artists, dancers, designers, light-sounddesigners, actors, models, foodartists and so on. So we say WOW and HEL YES to our neighbour country Finland.
