2. If this is your first child, you must attend a baptism preparation class before receiving a date for your baby’s baptism. Call the Parish Office to sign up for the class. Classes are held on the 1st Monday of the month.

A Message from our Pastor Dear Parishioners of SS. Peter and Paul, Little Sisters of the Poor Next Weekend Every year, twice a year, we host a guest speaker who is working with the missions or the poor somewhere in the world.

May 17th and 18th, we welcome the Little Sisters of the Poor, who will be speaking at all the Masses that weekend. For over 175 years, the Little Sisters have dedicated their lives to caring for the elderly poor. Our aging population continues to grow and dignity at the end of life is increasingly threatened. The Little Sisters believe the elderly are our greatest treasures. Our elderly brother’s and sister’s lives have brought them a unique perspective in our human family. Through their accomplishments, our elders bring lessons in endurance and self-sacrifice. Through their life-long experiences, the elderly bring lessons in what is important in life. The Little Sisters welcome the elderly as Jesus Christ Himself and serve them with love and respect until God calls them home. Please prayerfully consider supporting the Little Sisters of the

Poor with a donation. There is an envelope in your monthly packet and there will be envelopes in the pews so that you can include a

donation for the sisters in the regular Sunday collection. Please simply specify that the donation is to go to the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Fr. John Lovitsch, Fr. Steven Borello and Fr. Raj Kocherla Fr. John Lovitsch has been assigned as parochial vicar at St. Mary's in Mokena starting the middle of June. Fr. John has made a positive impact in our parish in the year he has been with us and we wish him well. Please come to the 11 am Mass on June 15 and stay for the reception to thank Fr. Lovitsch and wish him well.

Fr. Borello comes to us having completed his first assignment as a priest at Notre Dame in Clarendon Hills. Fr. Borello is a very talented and enthusiastic man and SS. Peter and Paul is fortunate to have him.

Fr. Raj has been a priest for twelve years. We are also very fortunate to have this wonderful priest who is going to be sorely missed by the parishioners of St. Mary Nativity in Joliet.

Please watch for a photo and biographical information on these two fine men in future editions of the bulletin. Please join me in welcoming them to SS. Peter and Paul.

Fr. Mark Rosenbaum Fr. Mark Rosenbaum was appointed the pastor of St. John's in Villa Park. Please join us for a special Mass at 12:30 pm on May 25 with a reception in the Ministry Center following Mass to thank Fr. Mark Rosenbaum for his loving ministry here at SS. Peter and Paul.

Karen Meskill Karen Meskill will visit our parish school on Monday. Karen is our new school principal and will have opportunities to visit with our principal, teachers, staff, parents and students. Karen does not officially begin her service as principal until July 1st of this year, but she is excited about meeting our parish and school. Karen is coming to us from the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis with a great deal of professional experience both as a principal and in the business world.

Choir Trip to Rome The week after Easter our parish choir and others from our parish had the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to Rome. We had a wonderful pilgrimage, being present for the canonizations of St. Pope John XXIII and St. Pope John Paul II. Our choir performed magnificently at concerts at the Pantheon, the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the Jesuit Church "the Gesu'" and Sant'Agnese in the Piazza Navona and they were magnificent. (I guess Pope Francis permits concerts in churches in his diocese as well.) Our parish should be so proud of our parish choir who awed even the crowds of Rome. We also had the opportunity to celebrate private Masses with Cardinal Edwin O'Brien and Cardinal James Stafford and, of course, a private Mass (with about a million of his closest friends) with Pope Francis for the canonization. The Italians referred to the weekend as the weekend of the four popes, because both Pope Benedict and Pope Francis were present to canonize Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II. The trip was funded completely by the members participating and their own fundraising efforts. Please notice that parish funds were not used to pay for the participants going on this trip. If you would like to make a donation to the sacred music program, please simply phone the parish office.

Graduation The graduates from our parish school will be going to Washington, DC, next week so please keep them in your prayers for a safe trip and we congratulate them as they celebrate their graduation on May 23rd. We wish all of our graduates at every level of education God's choicest blessings!

LOAVES AND FISHES COLLECTION REMINDER: Next weekend, May 17/18, is our 3rd Sunday of the Month collection for the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. Please place your donations on the steps in front of the communion rail in Church, or by the doors outside the Chapel in the Ministry Center next weekend. Thank you for your generosity!

Beginning the third week of June, Fr. John Lovitsch will be transferred as parochial vicar of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mokena, IL. Fr. Steven Borello and Fr. Raj Kocherla have been assigned to SS. Peter and Paul beginning the same time.

Although he has been here only one year, Fr. Lovitsch will be sorely missed and we are grateful for his priestly ministry.

We will have a special Mass and opportunity to thank and wish Fr. Lovitsch well at the 11 am Mass on Sunday, June 15th. Please watch the bulletin for more details.

Statement of the Diocese of Joliet Re: Filing of five lawsuits in Will County April 30, 2014 CREST HILL, IL--The Diocese of Joliet has not yet been served with the five lawsuits filed in Will County Court today. After receiving copies of the suits and reviewing the specifics of the pleadings, diocesan officials will respond in the appropriate forum.

Anyone who may have been sexually abused as a minor by a member of the clergy, employee or volunteer of the diocese is urged to report the abuse to civil authorities and to the diocese.

Reports may be made to any pastor or by contacting the diocese’s Director for the Office of Child and Youth Protection at (815) 221-6116.

Dealing with the tragic history of child abuse is part of the Church’s ministry today. The people of the Diocese of Joliet pray every day for those who have been abused and for those responsible for it. They ask the Lord for healing for all His people who suffer for what has happened in their midst. With God’s help, the diocese will continue to do its best to assure the safety of its children.

Father Milota Names a New Principal to SS. Peter and Paul School

Mrs. Karen Meskill Newly appointed principal assumes her position July 1, 2014

After thirty-nine years of devoted service to SS. Peter and Paul School, and a lifetime of dedication to Catholic Education, Mr. Frank Glowaty will be retiring as principal of SS. Peter and Paul School. We are grateful for the 39 years of dedicated service Mr. Glowaty has given our children and our school. SS. Peter and Paul has been blessed with the presence of this wonderful man! We thank him for a job well done!

After nearly two months of work, the Principal Search Committee for SS. Peter and Paul School has recommended Mrs. Karen Meskill to assume the duties of principal and Fr. Milota has appointed Mrs. Meskill as the new principal of SS. Peter and Paul School and she will begin July 1, 2014.

Karen comes toSS. Peter and Paul School with a great deal of experience both educational and corporate. She presently serves as the principal of All Saints Catholic School in Lakeville, Minnesota, but she is excited about moving to Naperville to serve the community at SS. Peter and Paul.

Karen has extensive experience not only as a principal and educator but she also possesses corporate experience including that of a corporate trainer at Financial Federal Trust and Savings Bank in Orland Park.

The committee found her to be highly competent, engaging, approachable and willing to entertain new ideas for the benefit of the children she serves. Please reference the positive comments of the members of the search committee included with this release.

Mrs. Meskill presently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband, Tim, and their two daughters, Megan and Kathleen. Kathleen will be graduating from Benilde-St. Margaret's Catholic High School and Megan is presently attending College of the Holy Cross. Karen resided in Naperville for a time and so is familiar with our community.

We offer a special thank you to the parishioners who served so diligently, professionally, and generously on the Principal Search Committee: Fr. John Belmonte, SJ, Sr. Cecilia Joseph, OP, John Scanlon, Tom Boler, Maureen McDonagh, Shelly Jaros, Tobias Schlueter, Denise Pcolinski and Barb Enright.

Karen will be visiting our parish and school May 12th so that our teachers, staff, parents and students can meet their new principal. We will offer a complete schedule of activities for that day within the next week.

Our goal was finding just the right person to serve as Principal of Ss Peter & Paul School. After an extensive search we believe that we have found just that right person in Karen Meskill. Karen has experience in both the corporate world as well as in education. She is an accomplished educational leader, who works closely with her staff in developing an ideal learning environment."

John Scanlon, Chair of Search Committee "I was impressed with Karen's financial background prior to her changing her field to education .. I inquired as to why she made the change. Karen responded that she was required to present workshops and do training sessions as part of her job description. She realized that her greatest satisfaction and interest was in this aspect of her work. Upon a time of discernment Karen began to prepare herself for a position in education. I think SSPP School will benefit from Karen's experience in both professional fields."

Maureen McDonagh, Former Teacher at SS. Peter and Paul "Being selected to serve on this committee was a privilege and honor that I did not take lightly. As with any good committee, there was at times differences of opinion, but I am proud to say that our many many hours together were marked by respect, professionalism and prayer. We were unified in our focus of identifying the best person who could capitalize on Frank Glowaty's substantial investment of leadership and talent which has made SSPP one of the most academically and spiritually rigorous grade schools in the diocese. We strongly believe that Karen Meskill is that person. To be clear, Karen is not Frank Glowaty. How could she be? Karen is, however, someone like Frank who understands, shares and has the talent and love for children to continue our School mission of excellence in education and Catholic formation into what will be a challenging future for all Catholic schools.

While there are many adjectives to describe Karen, we found her to be an exceptionally smart, experienced, professional, kind, cooperative, focused and faithfilled administrator. Please join us in welcoming her to our community and we ask you to also please give her whatever support she needs to be successful."

Tom Boler "I think Karen's degrees and experience in business and education will be a great asset to our school in preparing our children beyond eighth grade. I also think she has a vibrant, energetic personality that will lend itself well to our environment here at Saints Peter and Paul school. Barb Enright "First, I want to thank the parish and school for the opportunity to serve on the principal search committee. I am completely on board with the decision made by the committee. I feel the process was thorough and we all had an equal say. There was fair and open discussion among the members. Like any good committee, we all came together in the end and made the right decision. As I looked over my notes, here are some of the highlights from our interviews with Karen: I found myself wanting to listen to her answers. She was VERY engaging during her personal interview with entire committee.

She turned and addressed each of us. Karen interacts well with others. She not only answered questions but asked questions of the committee on multiple occasions. Karen offered ways to deal with issues when she was presented with a scenario. I was impressed she did her research! She was familiar with our website and referred to this several times. Karen was always very prepared for her interviews. What struck me about Karen was that she feels people should be accepted as who they are in their faith . I am very excited for Karen to join our school!"

Shelly Jaros "It was an honor to serve on the Search Committee. From start to finish, the process was robust and collaborative. I was delighted to hear that Karen accepted the offer to serve as the next principal of SSPP. For me, the combination of Karen's leadership experience, energy, approachability and clear passion for Catholic school education made her the stand-out candidate- the perfect choice. I'm confident that Karen will contribute greatly to the future success of SSPP. Please join the committee in welcoming Karen to the SSPP family!"

Denise Pcolinski "Searching for someone to assume leadership of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School after the strong guidance of Mr. Frank Glowaty was not a small task. The search committee was looking for someone who would continue to advance the mission and vision of the school, someone able to lead students and parents to a deeper faith, someone knowledgeable of curriculum and assessment, someone able to inspire teachers to continually grow and to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom, someone knowledgeable in technology and the needs of the digital classroom, a strong communicator and someone well versed in financial matters. Divine Providence has once again provided for the needs of Saints Peter and Paul as the school begins this next phase in its history. Karen Meskill brings with her these talents and more. Our Lady of Czestochowa Icon from Poland Visiting Ss. Peter & Paul Church The Icon, a replica of the famous “Black Madonna” of Czestochowa, has journeyed from the Pacific Coast of Russia, throughout Europe, traveling over 40,000 miles while being seen by millions of Catholics and Orthodox faithful.

The ocean to ocean pilgrimage, an unprecedented effort for the international pro -life movement, is being presented by Human Life International.

The pilgrimage is intended to awaken the faithful about the urgency of defending life from the moment of conception.

Father Peter West, Vice President of HLI and chairman of the pilgrimage committee will be accompanying the icon to our church on Tuesday, May 20th. Our Lady of Czestochowa will arrive at 11:30 am and will be on display until after the evening rosary at 7:30 pm. A schedule of events will be forthcoming.

Christian Service Happenings We will once again be saying the Rosary on the Parish Campus by our Blessed Mother Statue at 1:30 every Tuesday in May, weather permitting. Everyone is welcome. This is a beautiful way to honor our Blessed Mother during the month of May, and pray for all human life - born and unborn.

Today the pro-life committee will once again be Pro-Life handing out baby bottles to benefit Waterleaf News You Women's Center - the crisis pregnancy center our Can Use parish supports. The filled bottles are then returned on Father's Day. Thank you to all of our parishioners who so generously support this fundraiser year after year.

Our parish's day of commitment at Planned Parenthood is the third Tuesday of the month. This month it is Tuesday, May 20th. Please come out and pray with us anytime you can. A priest or deacon prays EVERY Tuesday, at 2:00.

Another opportunity to pray for the gift of Life and an end to abortion happens with a group of faithful parishioners every Wednesday after the 8:00 a.m. mass here in our Church. Everyone is warmly welcome to join any time they can.

Daisy Troop Bake Sale The Saints Peter and Paul Kindergarten Daisy Troop will be hosting a bake sale on Sunday, May 18th after the 9:30 and 11:00 masses in the Ministry Center. Items will be $1 each. All proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House at Edward Hospital in Naperville.

Registration for the 2014-2015 year for new members wanting to join American Heritage Girls will be on May 19, 2014 in the SSPP Ministry Center, Room L20 from 7:00 – 8:30PM. Existing members may re-register at the May 12 Troop Meeting.

This summer we have 5 exciting camping trips planned including a high adventure trip to Door County and 3 family campouts. We are also offering the Catholic Religious Recognition Awards Program to girls age 7-15. Regular Troop Meetings will begin again in September on the second and fourth Monday of the month from 4-5:30PM. For SSPP students who are in extended day, we can pick up and drop off if needed.

There are Adult Volunteer positions open to parents. Volunteers are needed either during Troop Meetings (childcare available) or outside of Troop Meetings. Please contact us if you are interested in helping out.

VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY Today, we celebrate “Good Shepherd Sunday”, where we reflect on Jesus’ care and love of us and hear his words, “I came so that they may have life and have it more abundantly.” Your gift in a green envelope will reveal the love of the Good Shepherd to your suffering brothers and sisters. Chicago's architectural heritage is considered to be among the finest in the world, and the Chicago River provides the ultimate setting to view these magnificent structures. The expert docents will provide us with a unique insight into Chicago's Architecture. The expert architectural guide will lead us through all three branches of the Chicago River. We'll see the new and rehabbed residential buildings on the north branch, the office buildings including the Willis Tower on the south branch and the range of architectural styles on the main branch which rose after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

After the boat tour, we’ll make a stop at Millennium Park to see the “Bean” and the gardens. A Travel Services, Inc. tour escort will be on hand for the duration of the trip.

Finally, we’ll have a late lunch (1:30pm) on Taylor Streetat Pompeii’s Little Italy. We’ll enjoy an Italian feast served family style.

The per person cost of this trip with deluxe motor coach transportation is: $60.00 and is based on a minimum of 40 persons. We will meet at 8:15 A.M. in front of the Church. The coach departs Saints Peter and Paul at 8:30 A.M. sharp and returns at approximately 4:00 P.M. Wedding Anniversary Mass The Diocese of Joliet will hold its Thirty-sixth annual Wedding Anniversary Mass on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet.

If you are celebrating either your 25th or 50th anniversary this year, please contact the SSPP parish office so that we may submit your name to the Diocese for a formal invitation. Those celebrating over 50 year anniversaries do not receive a formal invitation, but will be able to register to attend at a later date.

The Naperville Chorus and Naperville Festival Orchestra will perform Part 1 and the final portions of Handel's oratorio, Israel in Egypt, on Saturday, May 17th at 8:00 pm in Wentz Concert Hall on the campus of North Central College (171 E. Chicago Ave.).

Handel tells the story of the Exodus and the plagues inflicted upon Egypt by God to convince the Pharaohs to free the enslaved Israelites.

Our very own Deacon Michael Crowell will narrate the story connection between the choruses.

The orchestra will also perform portions from Handel's Oratorio, Solomon.
