As part of Happy City: Art for the People, the Denver Theatre District commissioned Charles Montgomery’s research team to administer two social experiments regarding happiness in correlation with the Denver community. Montgomery’s work questions the intersection between urban design and the science of happiness; his research team is internationally recognized for research studies around these intersections. For Denver, his team developed two experiments – one that looked at the effects of a participatory artwork and the other on the relationship between methods of transportation and generosity.
We hired Mr. Montgomery and his team because we wanted to generate quantitative data that would help Denver better understand itself and the members of its community. We hope the results encourage our community to think more deeply about how the arts can support mental well-being.
Our sincere thanks to Charles Montgomery, Mitchell Reardon, our local team, and everyone who participated in the project and studies.
