The more I dive into the Colorado music scene the more I am alway fascinated by the amount of talent there truly is in the city that dreams.. I've been awed by those at the top but I am inspired by local artist. Amgonst those who remain humble is IMJLS, Isaiah Smith aka IMJLS is a twenty year old artist out of Boulder, Colorado. A poet in many ways the rapper is making waves in the local music scene. Releasing his debut concept and studio LP, The Blunt Diaries on April 20th 2017 on all streaming services. Although, this was the rappers first studio project, his portfolio is very diverse. The rapper teamed up with fellow local producers Katmandoom and JediFocus to create this particular piece. "The Blunt Diaries" is one of the more creative albums I've seen from local artist. Each track is named after blunt wrap flavors. The album overall is in its own lane with catchy songs like Peach, Java, and Backwoods, you will find yourself singing it through out the day. Each track has a beat that is melodious but also provides that bump for the trunk. Recently, the artist released "Weather (or Not)". It is laced with guitar and drum rhythms which the rapper flows over perfectly. He talks about the hype of mainstream and how played out and ugly it is, which I absolutely love as I believe the industry has become self-absorbed, very "hey look at me" meaning what rappers talk about now has no substance. The overall style from the rapper is different then your average as the effort in his music feels natural. Overall, I have high hopes for this artist as he consistently breaks the norm and gives us something meaningful and full of depth. Don't forget to connect with IMJLS via social media.
