Welcome to the third 30 UNDER 30 exhibition, an exhibition focusing on the future of art coming out of the North Texas area. The Greater Denton Arts council started this project in 2019 as an art exhibition focusing on young artists from across North Texas. The North Texas area is filled with amazing young talent, from students at the local universities to artists with no formal training, we are lucky to have these creative young people in our community. The Greater Denton Arts Council wants to showcase these young artists 30 years of age or younger, connecting them with our supportive community. 30 UNDER 30 was created to give North Texas artists a chance to showcase in a space without having to worry about having 20-30 pieces to fill up a gallery show. Artwork was selected by a panel made up of local Denton artists and community members from over 100 submissions collected in fall 2021.

Artwork in the exhibition includes two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces exploring a variety of topics through various art media. The art displays deeper questions of identity, culture, relationships with bodies, family dynamics, and nature through the artist’s chosen media. Some artists explore questions about the future, their futures, and the future of our Earth. Others look to their pasts, reminiscing on memories and lessons learned in their lives. Video, paint, metal, ink, wood, bones, all these materials are shaped and transformed by artists to share stories and beauty with our audience. Jenny

My artistic practice tends to be a reflection of the exploration of the ethereal realm that creating art brings us all to. My artistic practice uses illustration, mixed media painting, and new media digital experiences to create metaphorical windows into these other worlds that we generate within ourselves.

Using remnants as the basis for movement - a practice that holds a mirror to the experience of black Americans since 1619mimicry makes plain the frustrations of the physical limitations of sight. Presented to viewers is the choppy road towards unison and understanding within the black community.

My work utilizes colorful abstract lines and a controlled yet expressive application of paint. When I paint, I feel like a curious child at play. My work conveys this sense of imagination and beauty through the simple use of line and color.

My work depicts a mystical universe that is beautifully, gleefully fluid. It celebrates the in-between, the unusual, the flawed, and the authentic. Shadows are an ancient form of magic– they are intangible, and yet grace all worldly things from time to time.

I have created my work in order to unravel my sense of the world and challenge the narratives and beliefs I hold as truths. In my work I struggle to uncover memories of specific childhood experiences in detail that can then be re-imagined so that I can retell the story to myself. By recreating/reconstructing my earliest memories, I hope to revisit the way I once viewed the world from a place of innocence and wonder and bring that childlike perspective into my life as an adult.
