TICONDEROGA — On approximately stardate 93278.1, many of the Star Trek universe faithful will start a three-day celebration of a pop culture sensation that originally started as a “five year journey.” “It’s amazing what a show which couldn’t make enough money to stay on the air in the 1960’s has turned into,” said James Cawley, who now leads the production of the internet series Star Trek: New Voyages, starring as Capt. James T. Kirk. Cawley, with the help of Ticonderoga Revitalization Alliance co-directors Nancy Archer and

Lance Clark, are now starting to work out the final pieces of Trekonderoga, the first ever “Trek-con” to take place in Ticonderoga Sept. 4-6. “We have done the new voyages for 13 years now and so many people from so many different places have been involved,” Cawley said. “These are all people who go to Star Trek conventions, and they started floating the idea maybe we should do our own.” Cawley kept the idea in the back of his mind until production was moved from Port Henry to Ticonderoga, where larger space allowed for the idea to grow. “The Alliance also came in and thought it was an interesting idea to help promote the area,” he said. “So we came together on a date. It was good to get that set, get the adrenaline locked in and get to work.”

Lance Clark and Nancy Archer of the Ticonderoga Revitalization Alliance, along with Star Trek: New Voyages creator James Cawley, are partnering to bring Trekonderoga to the downtown area Sept. 4-6.

PORT HENRY — The first public meeting concerning the dissolution process in the Village of Port Henry will take place a day earlier due to scheduling conflicts. With the Knights of Columbus Hall in the village already hosting an event Wednesday, Aug. 19, the public meeting concerning the dissolution process has been moved to Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. During the meeting, the public will have the chance to listen to the board talk about its preliminary work, with introductions of the firm hired to work on the dissolution plan and a public comment period.

On Aug. 10, the trustees opted to hire the Laberge Group to act as consultants to help update the dissolution plan at the price tag of $40,000. The Village of Port Henry received a petition June 25 seeking a referendum on the dissolution of the government structure, with the vote to be held Tuesday, Oct. 27, between noon and 9 p.m. at the Port Henry Volunteer Fire Department. To help in leading the discussion, the board has set up a trio of public meetings. They will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19; Wednesday, Sept. 23; and Wednesday, Oct. 21 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. “I want to see all the facts and information that we have given to the residents here in Port Henry over the next three months,” Mayor Ernie Guerin said. “I want to ensure we make this a legitimate, honest vote.” Trustee Ruth McDonough agreed. “My hope is every voter in the village gets the important and needed information before they go >> Story Continued | pg. 14
