Microgrid 1.0
Pros: Blue Island will be self-sustainable, meet modern energy standards, and have a resilient energy supply.
Cons: High price point of investments in solar and wind power
Economy 2.0
Pros: Reduces freight presence on residential roads and locates warehousing and storage near existing rail lines to shorten transport time for goods.
Creates and retains jobs within freight, rail, logistics, and manufacturing which offers lifelong careers for people.
Lessens the environmental impact of freight by strategizing for cleaner and more efficient ways to move trucks, reduce noise pollution, and improve safety.
Cons: Certain barriers include the scale and time it will take to construct new warehouses as well as change the operations of private businesses to align with the city’s clean energy goals.
Housing 3.0
Pros: Home energy consumption will decrease. The program can target low-income households who experience a higher energy burden.
Cons: Weatherization may induce gentrification and displacement.
Urban Agriculture 5.4
Pros: Urban Agriculture reduces energy usage by decreasing the heat island effect.
The additional green space also decreases risk of flooding. The project will increase accessibility to fresh food.
Cons: Possible environmental degradation without sustainable agriculture practices.
