President Biden is Bringing Manufacturing Jobs and New Industries to Michigan
President Biden worked with leaders like Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin to pass meaningful legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act. These laws provide incentives that are spurring unprecedented investments in manufacturing and infrastructure across Michigan.
President Biden’s landmark Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) has provided $9.4 billion in funding to rebuild Michigan’s roads and bridges, replace lead pipes to provide clean water, provide high-speed internet to every family, deliver cheaper and cleaner energy to households and businesses, and create good-paying jobs.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is modernizing roads, airports, ports, and waterways all across America. Michigan airports in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Flint were awarded $61.8 million in funding for upgrades through the IIJA, passed by Congresswoman Slotkin and signed by President Biden.

Thanks to President Biden’s IRA, Ford is investing $5.5 billion to build a new factory and expand nine of its existing factories across Michigan, bringing thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs to the state.

The Biden Administration awarded $1 billion in funding to the Michigan-backed clean hydrogen hub project to develop regional supply chains for the production and distribution of hydrogen. Congresswoman Slotkin was an advocate for this project, which will create over 12,000 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent clean energy jobs with a new plant in Ypsilanti and expansion of an existing plant in Flint. This investment is a major step toward bringing back manufacturing jobs to Michigan and keeping America a strong international player in the clean energy market.

We all remember that when car prices went up, so did prices for everything from refrigerators to cell phones, due to the shortage of semiconductors and our reliance on foreign manufacturing. That’s why President Biden signed the CHIPS and Science Act, passed by Congress with bipartisan support, to make sure supply chains for America begin in America. Since the legislation was passed, companies have moved to invest over $375 million in manufacturing jobs in Michigan. These unprecedented investments in domestic manufacturing will lower prices and create more good jobs.

ELIGIBLE MICHIGANDERS ENCOURAGED TO CLAIM WORKING FAMILIES TAX CREDIT
Eligible Michiganders can claim the federal and state Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Those who qualify and claim the tax credits could pay less in federal and state taxes. Recent legislation supported by Governor Whitmer quintupled the state credit in 2023, boosting refunds to an average of $3,150 ($600 more than before) for 700,000 families. This credit puts more money back into the pockets of working families.
