A PROGRAM TAILORED TO EACH STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT

SEA’s focus on Preschool through 8th Grade allows us to concentrate entirely on the developmental needs of children within these foundational years. We recognize that the early formative years lay the groundwork for a lifetime of learning. By nurturing students in a more concentrated age range, we tailor our curriculum, teaching methods, and support services to cater to their evolving cognitive, emotional, and social needs. This targeted approach fosters a deep understanding of each child’s individual learning style and paves the way for a seamless transition between grades, and a smooth launch into high school.

St. Edmund’s Academy is proud to be a school focused entirely on seeing children in Preschool through 8th Grade flourish.

GENUINE RELATIONSHIPS ACROSS GRADES

Our smaller grade span creates an intimate and nurturing atmosphere where older and younger students truly have the opportunity to know each other. Younger students have diverse and friendly older students to look up to, and older students know that they are role models, leaders, and mentors, and rise to that challenge. These bonds deepen the sense of community and create leadership opportunities across the years. Buddy classes will come together for activities throughout the school year, and attend each others’ performances during school. These relationships extend beyond the classroom and after graduation.

STUDENTS ARE WELL-PREPARED FOR HIGH SCHOOL

Expect the transition to high school to be a seamless one, as St. Edmund’s Academy supports students and parents throughout the selection process. The skills, values, and leadership qualities students develop during their time at SEA equip them to confidently navigate the challenges of their freshman through senior years, and beyond. Wherever they attend high school, our alumni consistently excel academically, socially, and emotionally— and credit their success to the solid foundation provided by St. Edmund’s Academy.

FAMILIES ARE WELL-SUPPORTED

At the same time, the long-developed partnership between school and home ensures that our students and their families receive guidance and support throughout the high school selection process. SEA parents also enjoy the gift of time–rather than choosing a high school for their child at the beginning of their educational journey, families can choose a secondary school based on everything they’ve come to know about their child’s personality, learning style, and strengths. Additionally, families benefit from making this decision with the support of teachers and advisors who know their child, and who know the secondary schools in our region.

At SEA, every child is known, valued, and challenged. We promise that your child will become a vibrant student and a great friend.

BELONGING & RELATIONSHIPS

A child’s ability to fulfill their potential rests upon a foundation of psychological safety created by accepting and supportive relationships. From Preschool to 8th Grade our teachers prioritize building individual relationships with students and their parents. Our small classes allow our teachers to give each student and their parents individualized attention while cultivating relationships among students that respect and appreciate everyone’s unique talents and backgrounds.

RESEARCH-BASED PRACTICES

Our teachers are experts in the art and science of teaching. Everyday in every classroom students experience curricula that are rooted in cognitive science to ensure that every student is prepared to thrive in secondary school and be an impactful citizen.

RACIAL LITERACY

In 2019, SEA introduced the Pollyanna Racial Literacy Curriculum at every grade level, employing concepts from history, language arts, science, geography, and STEAM, to support students in acquiring an awareness of their own racial socialization and skills for engaging in productive conversations about race and racism.

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Social and emotional development underpin our students’ growth and success. Skills like empathy, emotional regulation, self-awareness, self-management, and responsible decision making are taught through our social and emotional learning curriculum, Second Step.

This program gives our Faculty tools designed to put children on a path to lifelong success. Second Step is used throughout our school from Preschool to 8th Grade, scaffolding student learning and development.

Each week, students are recognized for the ways they exemplify the school’s Core Values. We emphasize the importance of doing the little things well—which turns out to be a big thing.

COMMUNITY GATHERING AT CHAPEL AND WOLFPUP PACK MEETINGS

Central to our community are our community gatherings. Since our founding, we have placed equal value on the development of students’ intellect and the cultivation of their character. This is celebrated each week at our Community Gathering at Chapel, where 1st through 8th Graders gather for a short program based on a series of guiding questions based on our Core Values. Additionally, our youngest learners in Preschool through Kindergarten attend a monthly Wolfpup Pack Meeting, where they learn about our school’s Core Values in engaging and age-appropriate ways.

There’s only one community that focuses on creating a culture of belonging through a set of time-honored Core Values designed to help children see and feel their unique importance and essential contribution to our collective thriving.

During our weekly Chapel Gathering, a student from 5th through 8th Grade who exemplifies all six Core Values receives the Lead Student medallion from the Head of School and wears it proudly for the following week.

Since 1947, we’ve been all in.

MUSIC & PERFORMING ARTS

SEA’s performing arts program invites students to challenge themselves artistically, creatively, and intellectually. Students take regular music classes in all grade levels, culminating with performances through the school year. Additionally, Preschool through 4th Grade students present grade-level performances throughout the year, and our Upper School students present a fall play and spring musical.

ATHLETICS

At SEA, we believe that sports should be fun. They should instill teamwork, and they should be available to anyone who wants to participate. That’s why every student in our Upper School is encouraged to join a team—whether it’s a sport they’ve been playing since Kindergarten or their first time picking up a ball. Student-athletes are encouraged to develop skills, character, and a competitive spirit on the fields, courts, and wooded trails that our teams call home.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING

After school programs at SEA offer families the flexibility of engaging and meaningful care for their children when the school day ends. With a variety of options from 3:25–6:00 p.m., many families take advantage of these programs and students are eager to spend additional time with classmates and friends.

SUMMER PROGRAMMING

Summer@SEA is an enrichment day camp for children entering Preschool through 5th Grade during the month of June. In small groups led by SEA teachers, students engage in the arts, physical fitness, cognitive skill development, and experiential learning.

LUNCH

SEA partners with Metz Culinary Management to provide snacks and lunch options for families. Through an a la carte ordering process, families can place lunch orders every day, or only sometimes—breakfast for lunch day is a popular day! Our ordering process also allows for families to identify allergy and dietary restrictions.
