Over the last 29 years, we have witnessed an inspiring amount of generosity in DeKalb County. Some generosity came as a planned gift from a Will or Trust. Other times it was mailed as a memorial or in honor of a loved one. Still other times, the gift was delivered by a small child walking through our door. The best part is that we know EACH GIFT comes from a desire to help others.

DEKALB COUNTY NONPROFIT PARTNERSHIP More nonprofits than ever came together through DCNP in 2022 and we continued our efforts to strengthen these organizations with training, professional development, and programs such as Give DeKalb County.

2022 HIGHLIGHTS:  170 members

 50 virtual, in-person, and hybrid trainings offered

 99% overall satisfaction rating for DCNP trainings

Give DeKalb County 2022 set new records and attracted donors from all 50 states and four countries around the world. Since 2014, Give DeKalb County has raised $6.9 million through 38,587 total donations.

KINDERGARTEN READINESS IN DEKALB COUNTY

The Community Foundation is committed to kindergarten readiness by working with local partners, such as the DeKalb County Regional Office of Education, to bring resources to educators and the community. In addition, the Kindergarten Readiness Toolkit Grant program places essential educational tools into the hands of young learners and their families.

2022 HIGHLIGHTS:  1,200 Kindergarten Readiness Toolkits distributed  Every school district in DeKalb County received toolkits  In the last three years, nearly 4,000 children received toolkits  YEP members volunteered to build and pack toolkits at our partner, School Tool Box

My child was extremely excited about this kit and loved getting it out to do the activities. It felt really good knowing that I was helping my child be more prepared for kindergarten.

YOUTH ENGAGED IN PHILANTHROPY YEP is a youth-led committee of the Community Foundation. It’s free and just for high school students. Members build leadership, communication, social, and analytical skills while they learn about nonprofits, philanthropy, and grantmaking.

 $17,023 in grants awarded to 14 organizations (May 2022)

 Explored “lack of community involvement” and “anxiety” as local youth issues  Members raised over $12,000 in support

 YEP began its 14th year in September 2022

GRANTS IN ACTION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS IN DEKALB COUNTY

2022 HIGHLIGHTS:  $300,000 dollars committed for community distribution over a three-year period

As a commitment to economic development in DeKalb County, the Economic Development Implementation Grant program provides an opportunity for municipalities and communities to apply for support (up to $20,000) for planning or projects.

EDUCATION

ADULT DAY SERVICES THRIVE AGAIN THE NEED Before the state budget crisis in 2015, Fox Valley Community Services (FVCS) successfully operated an adult day service in DeKalb. Most of the clients suffered from Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, and other related aging disorders.

Seniors received services and thrived at this location until it closed. This created immediate challenges for families who relied on adult day services for their loved ones and these challenges persisted for years.

In 2020, an opportunity arose to partner with Elder Care Services in DeKalb. In order to open the new adult day service at this location, FVCS needed to secure safety equipment, materials, and other necessities.

Total……$51,500 DeKalb County Community Foundation for an $18,000 Community Needs Grant. The grant was approved, and added to other support raised. Early in the process, the Ed Kapper family presented FVCS with funding to start the site’s improvements.

Because of this generosity, the location was named the Kapper Adult Day Service.

THE IMPACT In 2021, the Kapper Adult Day Service opened. Clients are thriving again, and families rest assured, knowing their loved ones are safe and well cared for.
