About DLMS Deer Lakes Middle School is equipped with more than 30 classrooms for students in grades 6-8, including a library, cafeteria, computer learning labs, and gymnasium. The middle school campus also includes a football and soccer field. Middle school is a time of transition for students, who are for the first time experiencing a schedule with teachers specializing in a particular content area that requires them to transition from classroom to classroom throughout the school day. Our curriculum focuses on providing students with a rigorous learning experience that sets high expectations for all students. The students’ schedules reflect our commitment to educating the whole child. Every student throughout his or her middle school career will experience courses that include Physical Education and Health, Art, Computers, Family Consumer Science, General Music, and Technology Education. In addition to those unified arts classes, students in eighth grade have the opportunity to take a choice of elective course including Spanish, French, STEM Tech, and Photo-Video. We believe that these courses build curiosity, which is an essential part of the middle school experience.

Deer Lakes School District is made up of three scenic townships. They are East Deer, Frazer and West Deer - making it a perfect combination of suburban and rural living. Located approximately 24 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh, the district is just 30 minutes from the city and 10 minutes from the Pennsylvania Turnpike in northern Allegheny County. Linked by suburban roads that are well maintained, the area enables its residents to be less than 10 minutes from The Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, major shopping complexes, entertainment, movie theaters and interstate access. With more than 14,000 residents, Deer Lakes offers a wide variety of recreational facilities. Many homes and housing plans are only minutes away from community parks and county parks that offer fishing, picnicking, softball, tennis, and suitable playgrounds. The basic pupil accounting formula used at Deer Lakes School District is based off its three-day enrollment in a given year. This year, those numbers include 440 students in the middle school.
