About East Union East Union Intermediate Center houses grades 3-5 and features music and art areas, a computer lab, health suite, speech and a combination of math, reading, and gifted support that encourages quality education. To prepare students for today’s rapidly changing world, East Union provides students with a thorough and successful learning experience. The district has developed a progressive curriculum which helps develop students into productive, creative members of society in preparation for a successful future. Traditional subjects such as reading are taught through an interactive process. Using a literaturebased approach, the teachers share a wide assortment of stories with the students and lead them through higher level thinking skills and activities.

2016-2017 Profile The Community
Deer Lakes School District is made up of three scenic townships. They are East Deer, Frazer and West Deer - making it the perfect combination of suburban and rural living. Located approximately 24 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh, the district is just 30 minutes from the city and 10 minutes from the Pennsylvania Turnpike in northern Allegheny County. Linked by suburban roads that are well maintained, the area enables its residents to be less than 10 minutes from The Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, major shopping complexes, entertainment, movie theaters and interstate access. With more than 14,000 residents, Deer Lakes offers a wide variety of recreational facilities. Many homes and housing plans are only minutes away from community parks and county parks that offer fishing, picnicking, softball, tennis, and suitable playgrounds. With its community appeal, family oriented atmosphere, and outstanding program of studies; it’s no wonder that the Deer Lakes School District is a great place to live, to work, and to raise a family.
The language arts program teaches higher level thinking skills, reading, listening, speaking, grammar, and writing. A curriculum integration approach is implemented into all content areas such as social studies, math and science, as well as the special area subjects that include music, art, and physical education. The basic pupil accounting formula used at Deer Lakes School District is based off its three-day enrollment in a given year. This year, those numbers include 469 students in East Union.
