FIRE COMPLIANCE In the building and construction industry, fire compliance is of paramount importance. We have and continue to invest heavily in fire testing our product range and most of our range comes with a Group 1 or 2 Fire Rating. This means that our products not only look fantastic but are safe for specification on almost any project.

ACOUSTICS We have tested our entire range of acoustic products in NATA certified laboratories and provide detailed acoustic data.

In 2021, we consulted with an acoustic engineer to review and add to our existing data. What we had was ‘good enough’, but for us, it’s about going above and beyond.

Our new acoustic data sheets present just the key information in a digestible way whether you're an architect, builder or acoustic engineer.

LEADERS IN FIRE COMPLIANT ACOUSTIC SOLUTIONS 0

Most Decor Systems products are comprised of more than one variable element including a substrate and finish. The combination of these elements determines the fire rating. We test our products as full systems, that includes the substrate (e.g. MDF), the finish (E.g. SmartLook laminate) and the acoustic backing too. Some products can achieve higher ratings when using Fire Shield.

The best thing to do is talk to a project consultant early on. We're not perfect at everything but when it comes to acoustics and fire certification, we're experts.

Managing Director David Faulkes is a direct descendant of Catherine Murphy (1813 – 1876). Catherine is noted in official government archives as a ‘native of the colony’.

She married Henry Stedman at Parramatta in 1837. Henry was transported to Australia from England for the crime of ‘stealing from his master’. Our site rests on the traditional land of the Dharug people, adjacent to the Duck River wetlands in western Sydney.

The Dharug nation is a language group of First Nations Australians who are the traditional custodians of much of what is modern day western Sydney. David’s four children have an active interest in the business and seek to carry forward the rich legacy and heritage that is ours.

CREATING SPACE WITHIN TIGHT CONFINES Wenona College, located in North Sydney, was founded in 1886. Over the years, growth in population has led to an increase in demand for enrolments and a need to expand the campus. But the urban location meant that growth was limited to within the confines of the original campus boundaries.

Tonkin Zulaikha Greer was selected after a detailed Design Excellence competition to undertake the most recent renovation and rebuild. They have utilised space in a clever way to support the growing cohort, the diverse learning offerings and deliver top-notch facilities.

DecorLux was used because of it’s high-performance characteristics including its resistance to moisture and its Group 1 Fire Rating.

HEAVENLY ACOUSTIC DESIGN The Cadogan Song School showcases the transition from old to new in a harmonious design that visually balances a unique mix of buildings.

The school is home to the St George’s Cathedral choir and the stunning series of sculptural vaulted arches, and a ‘tuning fork’ spire needed to not only look otherworldly but sound incredible.

A key requirement was that the home for the choir was to match the acoustics of the Cathedral itself. The sound-diffusing DecorTone was used to achieve the acoustic goals required.

MINIMALIST PALETTE, MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE The Hamilton Secondary College is known both nationally and internationally for its Space Program. The inclusion of a planetarium as part of a new Performing Arts Centre was an opportunity to build upon this unique area of interest, demonstrate the Government’s commitment to innovation and space research, and add a landmark building to the site.

The acoustic performance requirements of the planetarium and auditorium spaces were a major driver in the interiors of the building. Close consultation between the acoustic engineers, Decor Systems and audiovisual specialists was required to achieve the desired technical and aesthetic result.

The project performs to exceptional levels acoustically and visually, proving no compromise is needed.

SWEEPING CEILING FOR SOUND LEARNING Designed by TKD Architects, the SCEGGs library is an expansion on the primary and secondary school libraries, with the scope involving the doubling of the original floor area.

This learning hub houses a multimedia library, staff offices, research classrooms and seminar rooms. A key focal point of this area is the mezzanine floor with its large sweeping ceiling that is curved to appear like a rolling wave.

Created with the use of DecorTrend panels, this stunning atrium is a masterpiece of design. Decor Systems collaborated closely with the architects to ensure the successful marriage of aesthetics and acoustic performance.

The brief for John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School (JSRACS) was to develop a Senior Learning Centre that provided superior facilities to higher tertiary level young adults.

It required an architecture that promotes a sense of community that is founded on principles of flexibility, school community and life-long learning.

The design solution is a finely crafted one that engages and responds to site and context and provides an interactive and dynamic interior with an open plan conducive to movement and circulation.

The firm’s Principal John Wardle said 900 Ann Street’s ability to connect people to each other and the surrounding landscape were key priorities for the building’s composition.

“Our design for 900 Ann Street emphasises the way people inhabit the ground with its stepped terraces and many places to sit and have a conversation. The foyer is like the front parlour of the office building, and feels like an extension of the existing garden landscape,” he said.

Acoustics are of paramount importance in collaborative office spaces so DecorLux and Vogl panels were used throughout to achieve the required outcomes.

A TRANQUIL WORK SPACE Located in the slick Tower One of Barangaroo, Sydney, the Coverforce office showcases extraordinary views from the building through expansive windows.

To maintain the bright and open aesthetic, geometric Vogl ceiling panels were used that bring the space to life and compliment the black accents used throughout.

The space is modern with the acoustic requirements necessary for a collaborative working environment.

The bespoke sculptures and perforated wall design at Perth Airport called “From The Skies” was designed by Penelope Forlano (Ph.D) at Forlano Design, with artwork text by Doolann Leisha Eatts, a Whukjuk/Piblenman/Nyungah woman elder.

The design, crafted from DecorArti panels and with integrated lighting, is unmissable at the Perth T1 Airport.

A FIRST OF ITS KIND Designed by Site Architecture and built by Perkins Builders, the Bushfire Centre of Excellence is the first of its kind in Australia. Because of this, there was no definitive brief supplied by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services. Site Architecture took this as an opportunity to create a flexible and adaptable facility that meets the needs of various user groups and possible future uses.

DecorZen was used throughout the main foyer in a SmartLook Hoop Pine finish.

Absorbing up to 88% of incidental noise, the panels bring a sense of serenity and tranquillity to the foyer area.

DecorImage was used on the eye-catching eves on the external roof. A DecorImage finish was selected to match the interior Hoop Pine finish creating continuity from inside to out.

Surry Hills Library and Community Centre by Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp has led the way in sustainable building, winning the National Award for Sustainable Architecture at the AIA’s National Architecture Awards.

SYDNEY THEATRE COMPANY, NSW

The revitalisation of the Sydney Theatre Company’s home on Piers 4/5 in Sydney was an exercise in conserving heritage and embracing modernity.

This significant space, originally built in 1984, enhances the experience of staff, performers and the audiences.

DecorMilano decorative timber panels were used extensively and provide a subtle backdrop for the heritage elements that remain.

A NEW BENCHMARK The Green Square Library is a project unlike any other. Winner of the World’s Best Library on completion in 2019, the space consists of a public plaza and a primarily subterranean library space. GREEN SQUARE LIBRARY, NSW

An impressive glass entry pyramid leads you down into the main library space. A huge open plan living room is filled with light from a central sunken garden, amphitheatre, and large circular skylights. A striking 6-storey glass tower emerges above the plaza and lights up with dazzling colours at night.

Our Vogl perforated plasterboard was used throughout and contributed to the building’s 6 Green Star rating whilst also offer a Group 1 Fire Rating and the acoustic performance required for a library.

The Playhouse Theatre in Canberra was design by Hassell and is based on Grecian and Elizabethan architectural principles offering superb sightlines from all three levels while maintaining an intimate atmosphere.

The auditorium is a very intimate space with green seats and rich timber acoustic panelling working in harmony to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for the venue’s patrons.

HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES The Royal Opera House in London showcases a recent refurbishment that is strikingly spectacular. Wanting to create a sense of beauty, theatricality and curiosity before patrons had even heard an operatic note, the design is an exercise in excellence with a touch of drama.

The spaces create a feeling of specialness and luxury that a night at the opera should have. A sense of grandeur is evoked by the beautiful entranceway which is enhanced with integrated lighting.

To create a sense of elegance DecorSlat and DecoStyle were used. But it isn’t all about looks. The DecorSlat and DecorStyle products used in the project were supplied pre-assembled to create a beautifully swift installation.

GEOMETRIC ACOUSTIC DESIGN This landmark project is a showcase of Decor Systems capabilities in creating bespoke acoustic solutions. HDR Rice Daubney developed a design intent for the triangular acoustic ceiling bays and Decor Systems were able to propose a cost-effective method of manufacturing these panels utilising a similar drill pattern to our VOGL Perforated Plasterboard to match the visual appearance required.

The Decor Systems team assembled a custom prototype highlighting the integrated upturns with large radii to present to the client. The prototypes met the brief precisely and were custom manufactured at a competitive price and delivered to site for immediate installation.

REFLECTIONS OF THE LAND The design of the Ambulatory Care’s western wing is a finely detailed steel-and-glass box sheathed in a checkerboard shading system made of aluminium.

The shading device’s rich and vibrant colouring reflects the hues of the local landscape with the light vibrating off its surface. The checkerboard facade is an abstraction of stacked hay bales in the region.

The material palette is honest, durable, and robust, drawing on anodized aluminium,glass, steel, and timber detailing in the foyer. Once again,homage is paid to the flora and fauna of the site and region.

AN ACOUSTIC BACKDROP FOR LUXURY VEHICLES A landmark building for Mercedes Benz in Australia, this building is more than a full service, multi-storey motor dealership. Situated on the river at Breakfast Creek Wharf, the Autohaus incorporates a Mercedes History Museum which showcases antique vehicles and includes interactive screens detailing the history of the brand.

In addition to the main sales floor, the building designed by Cottee Parker Architects, has a rooftop dining area offering customers 180-degree views of Brisbane and its surroundings.

Vogl Colour supports the acoustic needs of the space and provides a neutral backdrop for the vehicles to take centre stage.

Detailing and working with Decor Systems in the early stages of design helped achieved an amazing outcome. McKorkell constructions maintained the high level quality of the design intent through the construction. The panels are finished beautifully, very crisp and neat, the black finishing angles create a sharp and slick contrast to the Tasmanian oak. The lighting (EDC), acoustics (GHF) and mechanical (DSA) designs are very well co-ordinated and allow the clean lines of the panels to be the hero. ElW architects are very proud of this project and the attention to detail from the whole project team. Thank-you for working with us during the design phase and for putting in the effort to create a bespoke product, including the fixing details to create a truly beautiful interior.
