GET TO KNOW US The idea of perforated panels were first conceived by Robert Faulkes, when, as a young man, he was working with one of Australia’s biggest roofing contractors Roof & Building Services, working on iconic projects such as Sydney Opera House, and as far afield as Papua New Guinea.

His mentors at Roof and Building Services encouraged Robert to further explore this unique idea.

And so it was that in 1969, Robert moved to a company where slotted eave sheets were developed for better air circulation in roof spaces. Robert’s young son, David, was fascinated by his father’s work, working at the factory in the school holidays to learn all he could about the machines and its products.

Fast forward to today, and the same passion, dynamism and zeal remains embedded in the company DNA. The use of American Oak is consistent throughout the building’s internal fit-out; such as windows, flooring and acoustic panels. Nestled among the century-old architecture of Perth College, Excelsior House sits in stark contrast to the traditional, towering red brick that dominates the campus.

O’CONNELL STREET PUBLIC SCHOOL | PARRAMATTA NSW Vogl Seamless perfotated plasterboard

This project involved the adaptive re-use of the buildings on the site of Old Kings School Parramatta as a new primary school to cater for 1000 students known as the O’Connell Street Public School. The school will be the largest public commissioned primary school in NSW.

ANZAC PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL | CAMMERAY, NSW DecorLuxMax, Perforated Fibre Cement

The new Anzac Park Public School at Cammeray contains a new four-story classroom building has a floor area of more than 8000 sqm and is expected to house 1000 pupils. At a construction cost of 22 million, this school is forward thinking in its vision for learning and creatively utilises open modern learning environments to enhance learning. A scheme was created by the architect to help children identify different areas through colour coding. Decor Systems Australia supplied a large quantity of DecorLux Max perforated fibre cement sheets which were utilised extensively throughout the project.

Each learning area is in this development individually designed with its own distinct look and feel, distinguished by the colour, shapes and scale of finishes. The inspiration behind this concept was to reflect the individuality of students and encourage diversity and expression. With a fully integrated AV system state of the art acoustics and large drop-down screens, this space can adapt to facilitate large group gatherings and intimate, casual presentations. The school has become a benchmark facility within the Sydney Catholic School’s network. Decor Systems are proud of their involvement in this cutting-edge facility.

HIGHGATE PRIMARY SCHOOL | PERTH, WA DecorZen Perforated Timber Panels

This project includes the addition of 4 primary and 4 pre-primary ‘standard pattern’ teaching classrooms on to the state listed historic site of Highgate Primary School. It is located adjacent to the significant heritage buildings created by the government office of the renowned architect George Temple Poole, and featured DecorZen perforated acoustic timer panels.

WESLEY COLLEGE| SOUTH PERTH, WA Vogl Seamless Perfotated Plasterboard

The new Wesley College Science Centre is more than bricks and mortar. The structure itself is interactive and serves as a ‘living’ science experiment, with the three-storey building comprised of agile, multi-disciplinary learning spaces, able to be easily modified to meet the needs of our learners at any given time.

Taylor Robinson selected Vogl perforated plasterboard to solve the acoustic challenge in such a lively space. The seamlessly set plasterboard allowed the ceiling to flow within the space whilst still remaining connected.

WENTWORTH POINT PUBLIC SCHOOL| WENTWORTH POINT, NSW Vogl Seamless Perfotated Plasterboard

The Wentworth Point Public school is a demonstration 21st century School.

The main classroom building is 3 levels that have a large common space at one end of the building that ties them all together.

Central walkways are lined with Vogl plasterboard for seamless visuals and superb acoustic control.

The Main assembly hall which opens to the environment on two sides is also lined with acoustic Vogl plasterboard. Vogl is a natural choice for these types of projects due to its superb acoustic control, impact resistance and Group 1 fire rating.

THE SOUTHPORT SCHOOL MULTI-PURPOSE HALL|SOUTHPORT, QLD DecorTrend Acoustic Timber Panel

Decor Systems engaged directly with Alder Constructions’ in delivering Burling Brown Architects another successful education project for The Southport School – Preparatory Campus. The Prep School Multi-Purpose Hall, was one of the most progressive facilities for learning and teaching that TSS Prep had undertaken and providing their staff opportunities to remain at the cutting edge of education for boys.

The DecorTrend panels were selected to coply to the building codes and met the necessary fire codes that such a space requires.

Delivering beautiful panels in another Education project is part of the “Let’s Make WOW!” journey.

SCEGGS DARLINGHURST| DARLINGHURST, NSW DecorTrend Acoustic Timber Panels

Designed by TKD Architects, the new SCEGGs interim library is an expansion on the primary and secondary school libraries, with the scope involving the doubling the original floor area. This learning hub houses a multimedia library, new staff offices, research classrooms and seminar rooms. A key focal point of this new area is the mezzanine floor with its large sweeping ceiling, which is curved to appear like a rolling wave.

Created with the use of DecorTrend panels, this stunning atrium is a masterpiece of design. Decor Systems collaborated closely with the Architects to ensure that together we could create a ceiling that is both unique and enhances the libraries acoustics. Installed to the highest standard by Sunshine Commercial Interiors, the DecorTrend panels shine in this open area, and provide an acoustic solution for a quiet yet active area.

THE CADOGAN SONG SCHOOL | PERTH, WA DecorTone Acoustic Diffuser Panels

This unique and timeless project in the heart of Perth City was an honour to be involved in. The Cadogan Song School is a new, two-storey concrete and glass building, to service the choir of St George’s Cathedral and the Anglican Diocese of Perth.

Interior walls are lined with DecorTone Acoustic Diffuser Panels in solid American Oak. The DecorTone panels effortlessly diffuse the sound through out the space.

CAROLINE CHISHOLM SCHOOL CENTRE FOR INNOVATION & LEARNING | CANBERRA, AC DecorMilano

The Caroline Chisholm School Centre for Innovation and Learning is the first ACT Government Educational Facility built to deliver STEM education for students and teachers.

As with all educational projects acoustic control was vital. Collins Caddaye turned again to Decor Systems to design and supply the seamless DecorEagle panels to line the walls. the result in keeping with the overall design was spectacular.

The Centre has won the Enrico Taglietti Educational Architecture Award at the 2018 ACT Architecture Awards, and was also shortlisted for the 2018 Master Builders Australia Excellence Awards under the Commercial Building less than $5M category.

ST ANDREW’S ANGLICAN COLLEGE | PEREGIAN SPRINGS, QLD DecorLux, DecorSlat

“We built a new Learning Hub with library and collaborative spaces at St Andrews Anglican College earlier this year. Our architect specified Decor Systems’ acoustic paneling range for the ceilings and some the walls, and we have to say we’ve been very pleased with how they’ve turned out.

The acoustic properties of the panelling systems contain the sound of several hundred students playing or talking all at once, and manage the noise without killing the atmosphere. We’ve been incredibly impressed by their effectiveness. The panels are hardwearing, they’re maintenance free, and they look fantastic, so from a facilities perspective, they really tick all the boxes!”

Designed by the renowned Perth architecture firm Marcus Collins Architects and built by PS Structures, Decor Systems acoustic ceilings were chosen because of the diversity of our product range. We have from slotted panels to slatted timber that fit the requirements of the architects in all areas, whether they are class rooms, meeting rooms or common areas. We also have acoustic testing to back up all our products that were supplied, which was a key requirement for the project.

This state of the art Auditorium, designed by SARM architects, seats approximately 1400 people. The show piece of the college, Decor Systems developed a new product especially for the project, called DecorEagle, a continuous slotted Acoustic panel.

Decor Systems were a part of the design process from design right through to Installation.

DecorArti, DecorZen Acoustic Panels A key design feature of the wall panels to the auditorium are the perforated timber panels to the walls. This was a challenging project......no two panels were the same size, multiple colours, and individual programming required for every panel.

Australian Institute of Architects – Sustainable Architecture Award St John Paul II College is a new co-educational Catholic secondary school in Gungahlin, Canberra, with capacity for 1,200 students.

The design of the school follows the briefing mantra of ‘learning everywhere and anywhere’. All of the key school functions are located directly off a circulation path known as ‘the learning street’, central to the success of this mantra was the need for high performing acoustic panels. CCA Architects turned to Decor Systems to ensure this mantra was achieved with both sustainable and enduring DecorLux Acoustic panels. Making “WOW” again with CCA – always a pleasure!
