IDENTITY CRISIS

A Docudrama Written & Directed By Ari D. Daniel

Film Specifications Running Time: Twenty (20) Minutes Language: English Target Rating: PG

Synopsis: The influence of American culture on Barbados’ society is vividly clear. Generally, American mass media is the cause and more specifically, American television programs and advertisements. Barbadians have always struggled with their cultural identity and have come to a point where we hardly embrace our own and look to America for influence. This influence has had a great impact on the Barbadian culture. Barbadians have today found themselves in a place where they are more materialistic and more consumerist than before, not knowing much about their heritage. Usually, it is in a pursuit of what the American culture deems as happiness or “The American Dream.’ Barbadians will go to great lengths to achieve this “Dream,” however many fall short and lose their true essence and contentment in the process.

“Identity Crisis” is a 20 minute, thought provoking, informative docudrama filmed in Barbados. It seeks to illuminate the issue of “The influence of American mass media on Barbadian culture.” This docudrama will blend history in a creative and dramatic fashion and use metaphor to produce a masterful portrayal of the effects of such a medium on the living practices, speaking patterns, consumption and general behavior of Barbadians. This documentary simply serves the purpose of enlightening the masses, sending them into a reflective state on how they live their lives, consume and the decisions they make based on this heavy influence of American media.
