Ramadan : What is it? • Holy Month • Devoted to Islam,which stemmed from the Abrahamic faith, recognising prophets from Adam to Noah, to Abraham, Moses, Jesus to Mohammed (MPBUH) • 9th Month of the Islamic Calendar • Month of Forgiveness and Peace • Cleansing


When Ramadan Comes • The Doors of Heaven are opened • The Doors of Hell are closed • The Doors of Mercy are opened • The Devils are put in Chains


What is Fasting? • More than just abstaining from Food & Drink • Good Deeds remove Bad Deeds • Charity increases wealth • ‘Alms’


The Essence of Ramadan • To learn self control and restraint • Training and Self Development • Empathise with Poor and Suffering


Who needs to Fast? • Every Muslim over the age of puberty • Good health and sane

3.11am - Suhoor: Meal before sunrise 3.16am - Morning Prayer Day as per normal/ Self reflection 9.09pm - Sunset : Iftar : Break Fast. 11.00pm - Isha & Tarawih Prayer.


Lailat Ul Qadr • The night when the QURAN was revealed • Important dates in the month of Ramadan


ITIKAF • Last 10 days • Starts after the breaking of the 20th Fast • Ends on the sighting of the moon of Eid-ul-Fitr


Eid ul Fitr • Festival at the end of Ramadan – Ensure you have given charity: Sadaqat ul Fitr – Eid Prayer in the morning followed by Eid Sermon – New clothes, gifts to family/relatives – Family feasts and get together
