A Message from our Executive Director

I am thrilled to welcome you to another exciting season for young audiences!

Kicking off our season is Grace for President, which presents valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and the importance of every voice in a community through the trials and tribulations of running for class president.

Next, we will celebrate the holiday season with A Charlie Brown Christmas. Join Charlie Brown and his friends as they discover the true meaning of Christmas amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. This beloved classic will remind us all of the joys of friendship, love, and the spirit of giving.

New this season is Dino-Light, presented by Lightwire Theater. This immersive experience will captivate audiences and create incredible visual landscapes, providing a magical atmosphere for families to enjoy together.

We will also continue our long tradition of presenting plays based on cherished books. This year audiences will get groovy with Pete the Cat and go on an adventure with James and the Giant Peach.

We are excited to embark on this journey with you and your children, and we look forward to seeing you at the theater! Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make this season a memorable one.

About the Performance/Author

Kimberly and James Dean are the authors behind the Pete the Cat book series. James, a self-taught artist with a background in engineering, first brought Pete to life through his paintings based on a scrawny black kitten he rescued from a shelter and named Pete who became the cool blue cat in his drawings. Kimberly, a former teacher and New York Times bestselling author, brings her passion for storytelling and education to the series. Based in Savannah, Georgia, the Deans bring Pete’s adventures to life to encourage children to explore their imaginations, face challenges, build confidence, and approach life with a cheerful perspective. Since their first book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, 87 Pete the Cat books (including picture books, songbooks, board books, and more) have been published, along with two musicals: Pete the Cat and Pete the Cat’s Big Hollywood Adventure.

For the Ride Home

Keep the fun going with a special activity for everyone!

1. Did you participate in any of the pre-show activities before watching Pete the Cat? What was your favorite?

2. Describe some of the costumes from the show. What kinds of things do you think the costume designer had to think about in order to create costumes based on a picture book?

3. Compare the Pete the Cat books to the Pete the Cat performance at Dallas Children’s Theater. What was the same? What was different?

4. In the show, Jimmy gets anxious and has to crawl under the couch. Do you ever feel anxious or nervous? What do you do to help relieve your stress?

5. Pretend you have magic glasses on (use your hands to make a binocular-type shape to look through)…what beautiful things do you see around you?

6. Would you consider Pete’s bus to be a character in the play? Why or why not?

7. Do you think that Pete the Cat has a message to share with the audience? What would that message be?

8. Pete and Jimmy have a special relationship (Jimmy even calls Pete his best friend). Do you have a pet? What makes that relationship special to you?

9. Imagine you have to write a review of Pete the Cat. How would you describe what you saw onstage at Dallas Children’s Theater?

10. Have you ever considered a career in the theater? What sort of theater-related job sounds the most interesting to you?

DALLAS CHILDREN’S THEATER THANKS YOU!

Reflects gifts received through January 11, 2025.

On behalf of the 90,000 children and families served annually, we gratefully acknowledge our donors who through their contributions made it possible for DCT to present over 500 performances of high quality, professional theater for youth and families. Although program space limits our ability to publicly recognize only donors of $500 and above, we deeply and sincerely appreciate every contribution. As ticket sales cover a small percentage our costs, your annual financial support is critical to introducing North Texas children to the magic of live theater. Should you wish to be added to this extraordinary list of donors or suggest corrections to our list, please contact the DCT Development Department at 214.978.0110 and THANK YOU!
