La India, known as the “Princess of Salsa,” is one of the most powerful and influential voices in Latin music. With a career spanning over 40 years, she holds two Guinness World Records: most No. 1 singles (11) and most No. 1 albums (6) by a female artist on Billboard’s Tropical charts.
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx, La India began her career with the freestyle group TKA before finding her true voice in salsa Her 1994 breakthrough album “Dicen Que Soy” became a cultural touchstone, launching hits like “Ese Hombre” and “Vivir Lo Nuestro” with Marc Anthony, and earning praise from the “Queen of Salsa” Celia Cruz, who named her the heir to salsa’s throne
Her genre-defying talent has led her to explore jazz, dance, R&B, and tropical music, with hits like “Sedúceme,” “Mi Mayor Venganza,” and “Víctimas las Dos ” She’s collaborated with legends including Juan Gabriel, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, and Sergio George, and has won a Latin GRAMMY®, 10 Billboard Latin Music Awards, and the Premio a la Trayectoria at Premio Lo Nuestro in 2025
Beyond music, she’s a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and cultural representation Still a leading force, La India is currently working on a new album with Víctor Manuelle and will kick off the Retromántico tour on May 24 in Dallas, Texas
Every time I take the stage, I pour my heart into every note, channeling the hopes, struggles, and dreams of our people. My voice is a bridge connecting our past, our present, and our future ” – La India
