Solution: Day1 used cutting-edge discovery tools to identify infrastructure, along with prioritize application migration and create a roadmap for cloud adoption. After a study of the current environment, Day1 was able to show the University a potential cost-savings of $2M annually by migrating their systems from its current data center to AWS.”

POC Validates Cloud Effectiveness for Secured Environment Leidos is able to strengthen their position as an industry leader in the cloud consulting space by partnering with Day1’s subject matter experts. Challenge: A Federal agency utilizing legacy systems and cumbersome physical equipment is investigating how to update and migrate current infrastructure to the cloud. Solution: Day1 is partnering with Leidos to provide a low-cost solution to move the legacy systems into AWS environment utilizing the exact configuration. Day1 is developing a Proof-of-Concept Lab to mimic the production environment to virtualize all physical appliances and provide a theoretical case for the government’s use of the cloud.

Transform Hybrid to All-In Cloud for 650,000 Users

The American Federation of Government Employees’ (AFGE) financial and business challenges were solved by reducing its technical debt from the maintenance of a hybrid environment and annual operational support costs while facilitating a successful migration path.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is expanding additional systems into the cloud by unifying and centralizing IT management of over a dozen disparate cloud accounts. The FCC is able to take advantage of a single cloud platform to leverage AWS’ economies of scale to lower costs.

Challenge: The AFGE was utilizing a hybrid infrastructure with both VMware and AWS but the environment was in a transitory state. The AFGE decided to take a phased approach to migrate all workloads to AWS and SaaSbased solutions in order to retire all premise-based server infrastructure and ensure that the environment supporting over 650,000 federal and government workers is unaffected.

Challenge: The FCC had committed to cloud adoption but had difficulty managing their rapidly expanding cloud infrastructure and multitude of vendors.

Solution: Day1 provided insight and expertise to complete a forklift migration of its remaining 24 servers and convert them to AWS EC2 instances. Day1 also ensures operational continuity during core production hours, troubleshooting, testing, training staff and validation of new architecture.

Solution: Day1 provided consulting services to relocate the FCC’s data center, and migration strategies to consolidate development & billing under one vendor. Day1 provides onsite support to the CTO and Deputy CIO and provides strategic vision for the agency’s cloud optimization. We provided consultation services & subject matter expertise in the FCC’s recent efforts of data-center consolidation and relocation.

The Federal agency is now able to utilize cutting-edge data engines to process employment reports in record time.

Syntasa leverages Hadoop infrastructure management as a service to continually focus on driving innovation not the burden of supporting its infrastructure.

Challenge: A government bureau lacked the expertise in utilizing data engines to process data rapidly and required assistance in meeting deadlines for employment reports. In their current state, the processing time of 215 million rows of unemployment data every month using traditional legacy system required eighteen hours to do Extract, Transform and Load (ETL). Solution: Day1 implemented parallel processing of ETL using modern open source technology stack by replacing the traditional system with Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce).

Challenge: Syntasa was unable to properly process and analyze its data due to having to manage multiple instances of Cloudera, Hortonworks and Apache Spark clusters both on-premise and in the AWS cloud. The amount of unstructured data was rapidly growing and Syntasa needed a solution to efficiently and accurately provide marketing and behavioral intelligence to its customers. Solution: Leveraging open source Big Data management tools, Day1 was able to automate Hadoop infrastructure management including cluster scalability and reliability.
