As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we are proud to present our annual Philanthropic Impact Report. This milestone year reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering academic excellence through collaboration, creativity, and character development.
Your remarkable generosity has resulted in $1.6 million raised during the 2023-2024 school year. These funds have been transformative, allowing us to enhance our athletic facilities, upgrade our STEM curriculum with new Innovation Labs, and improve our arts program through renovations to the Gordon Theater. These initiatives directly support our commitment to providing enriching experiences for all 524 of our learners, from Early Preschool to 12th grade.
As Board Chair and Head of School, we work in tandem to ensure Davidson Day School's continued success. The Board focuses on strategic planning and fiscal oversight, while the school administration manages day-to-day operations. Together, we uphold our core values: fostering meaningful connections, maintaining a supportive learning environment, and promoting integrity.
Your support, through the Davidson Day Fund and our targeted initiatives, is crucial. It enables us to attract exceptional educators,
provide financial aid, and continually improve our programs. Each contribution helps us nurture compassionate leaders who are prepared for the global stage.
As we look to the future, we remain committed to our relationship-focused approach, ensuring each student is known and valued. We're proud of our position as the preeminent PreK-12 academic institution in the Lake Norman region and are dedicated to setting new standards of excellence in education.
Thank you for your unwavering support. Together, we're shaping the next 25 years of innovative, personalized learning at Davidson Day School.
With gratitude,
Takila Williams Naylor Chair, Board of Trustees
Andrew Bishop Head of School
OUR MISSION
Davidson Day School fosters academic excellence through collaboration, creativity, and character development.
OUR VISION
To be a premier college prepatory organization by offering innovative, personalized learning that unlocks student potential. A Davidson Day School education prepares well-rounded, compassionate leaders to succeed on the global stage.
Collaboration
Fostering Teamwork, Building Leaders: Patriot Athletics
At Davidson Day School, our students excel not only in the classroom but also on the court, field, and track. Last year, our Patriot student-athletes won seven state championships, garnered 34 all-state individual selections, won eight Foothills Athletic Conference championships, and won 11 individual and relay state championships. This type of record-setting year doesn’t happen without teamwork and collaboration.
Regardless of whether our student-athletes were competing for an individual title or team championship, they exhibited a commitment to each other to give their all. Through their wins and losses, they supported each other to, ultimately, come out on top. Athletics at Davidson Day don’t just foster athletic excellence, but they foster skills and traits that enable our students to tackle real-world challenges.
While winning a state championship is the goal, we embrace failure as a crucial part of the learning process on the field, court, and track. When our Patriots face a tough opponent and the game doesn’t end in their favor, our student-athletes work together to train, get better, and adjust their game plan. These moments of “productive struggle” often lead to significant breakthroughs in teamwork and resilience – a key trait for success beyond athletics.
Our student-athletes recognize that you don’t make it to the podium without the support of your teammates. Everyone on the team must buy in and give their all to achieve success. Leaders are born as they motivate their teammates in times of adversity and step up to guide the team through challenges, inspiring confidence and unity when it’s needed most.
The skills developed through athletics – teamwork, resilience, and leadership – are invaluable in preparing our student-athletes for life beyond Davidson Day. Our Patriot student-athletes’ success is a testament to the power of collaboration in overcoming obstacles and achieving collective goals.
Creativity
Unleashing Artistic Potential: Musical Theater Club
Davidson Day School’s dedication to holistic education comes to life in its Musical Theater Club, a vibrant program designed to ignite the creative spark in our students. Led by Middle School math teacher Emily Griswold, this initiative brings together Middle and older Lower School students, offering them a space to explore the performing arts.
The club acts as a gateway to our distinguished Upper School theater department, allowing younger students to develop essential performance skills and confidence and preparing them for future theatrical success.
Last year’s productions of Frozen and Shrek underscored the club’s artistic excellence. These performances not only showcased students’ talents in acting, singing, and dancing but also highlighted their work in costume design, set creation, and the technical aspects of theater production, demonstrating their well-rounded creative abilities.
At Davidson Day, we understand that artistic growth flourishes in an environment of trust and encouragement. Our supportive atmosphere empowers students to push creative boundaries, take artistic risks, and discover new talents. This approach seamlessly aligns with one of our school’s values of cultivating a supportive, inspiring learning environment.
As we celebrate 25 years of academic excellence, the Musical Theater Club exemplifies our commitment to developing well-rounded individuals. Beyond the classroom, this program equips students with invaluable skills in creativity, teamwork, and self-expression, all of which will serve them well in future endeavors.
Through the Musical Theater Club, we create meaningful opportunities for artistic expression, reinforcing our mission to unlock individual potential and shape empathetic, imaginative leaders prepared to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
Character Development
Spreading Joy, Building Character: The Sunshine Club
At Davidson Day School, character development is not just a pillar of our mission statement—it's a daily practice that starts with our youngest learners. The Sunshine Club, a heartwarming initiative led by our Junior Kindergarten students, exemplifies our commitment to fostering compassion and service from an early age.
Comprised of enthusiastic four-year-olds and their dedicated teachers, the Sunshine Club has a simple yet profound mission: to brighten the days of our school community through acts of kindness. Regular visits from these young ambassadors of joy bring smiles, hugs, and treats to teachers and staff throughout the campus.
The impact of the Sunshine Club extends far beyond the instant joy it brings. For our Junior Kindergarteners, it's a hands-on lesson in empathy, generosity, and the value of serving others. As they distribute their carefully prepared treats and offer warm embraces, these young students experience firsthand the joy that comes from making someone else's day a little brighter.
The Sunshine Club's activities create a ripple effect of positivity throughout our school. These interactions foster deep connections between students, faculty, and staff and reinforce the strong sense of community that is a hallmark of Davidson Day School. The genuine warmth and care exhibited during these moments strengthen the bonds between different age groups and departments, creating a more unified and supportive learning environment for all.
As we celebrate 25 years of nurturing well-rounded, compassionate leaders, the Sunshine Club stands as a shining example of how Davidson Day School is preparing students not just for academic success but for lives of purpose and positive impact.
