MARCH 2014 SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS

Over 250 school children aged between 10 and 15 years old got the chance to visit either Tsavo West or East National Park with the DSWT during the month of March. Highlights during the children’s trip included sightings of leopard, wild dogs, large herds of elephants as well as Chaimu Hills and the KWS’s educational centres.

MARCH 2014 SCHOOL WILDLIFE FILM SHOWS The DSWT hosted five video shows in five different schools in Chyulu area during the month. The films shown have been made in both English and Swahili for better understanding by the pupils. This month we showed a film entitled “Gift from our forefathers-Masaai Mara Ecosystem” which highlights how communities can benefit from conservation and shows the Masaai community as a living example. This film is fifty eight minutes and it was shown after each school’s learning time table.

MARCH 2014 SPORTS EQUIPMENT DONATIONS The DSWT donated 3 soccer balls, 2 volleyball balls and 2 netball balls to Kithasyo primary school. This donation came at a good time when the district school balls competition was underway, as most schools in the Tsavo Conservation Area (TCA) cannot afford basic sports equipment

MARCH 2014 DESK DONATIONS

The DSWT donated 40 classroom desks to Misani Primary School as part of the Trust’s new Schools4Schools program. Misani Primary is approximately 7kms north from the DSWT field headquarters in Tsavo East. This school faces several challenges including lack of desks, study books, a low number of teachers as well as poor sanitation.
