About David Hastings Marine Science David Hastings, a retired college professor, is an expert in marine science. His research focuses on the ways climate change affects the ocean. He also works as a paleoclimatologist. He is a co-PI on the C-IMAGE project and recently presented his findings in Hong Kong and Xiamen, China. Environmental pollution is a growing concern that threatens the oceans and marine animal populations. This is compelling scientists to take a position on the subject. During a routine plankton collection, Hastings noticed billions of microplastic particles floating in the water. He and his colleagues decided to conduct a study to determine the scope of the problem. Four billion microplastic particles were discovered in Tampa Bay. He is also concerned about the effects of ocean acidification, a hazardous environmental condition that endangers the oceans. With each passing year, the effects of ocean acidification become more visible. He has made a personal commitment to protect the world's oceans.
