PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM: USES IN DAILY LIFE ___

David Sardá 3K PAI IV 2017-2018 Pythagorean Theorem

INTRODUCTION This is the fourth bimester’s final project. To elaborate this project, I had to research about my topic. I had to also find a doorway in my house where I would be able to get its measurements. Using the measurements gathered, I was able to do the process with help of the Pythagorean Theorem. I had figure out what would be the largest length of a wooden board that could fit through the doorway.

Using the Theorem in real life situations Here is a picture of the doorway where I got the measurements, it is the doorway into my kitchen.

Process This is the process with a drawing of the doorway and the process needed to get the maximum length of a board

Analysis With the process, I was able to conclude that 2 meters and 43 cm is the maximum length of a board that could fit through the doorway. To get this answer, I needed to get the measurements from the doorway. The smallest measurement of the doorway was 1 meter and 2 centimeters. The largest measurement of the doorway was 2 meters and 12 centimeters. To get the last measurement, I applied the Pythagorean Theorem.

The Theorem is ​a2+b2=c2. So if a=1.2 meters and b=2.12 meters, that means that the sum of the square of those two numbers, it will give us the answer squared. So a= 4.49 + 1.44= 5.93. The square root of 5.93 is 2 meters and 43 centimeters. This answer makes sense because normally the answer when using this theorem in between the measurements of a and b. I also got a measuring tape and measured the distance, and I got the same answer.

Conclusion The pythagorean theorem is not only useful in math class, it has uses in almost every job or profession possible. Itis one of the most useful and important theorems, not just in algebra, but also in daily life. For example. It is an extremely useful theorem in my extracurricular class f carpentry. It is needed to get the right measurements to build our furniture. With this project, I have been able to understand the theorems use to a full extent and be able to appreciate its usefulness.
