DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE Spring & Summer 2018

Bring on Summer! Spring has not yet sprung, but Davenport Parks and Recreation is already gearing up for a busy, fun-filled summer! Nothing says summer like getting out in the parks with family and friends and we are excited to announce that Davenport Parks is going live with its online park shelter reservations! We’ve simplified the process and you can now visit www.recpro.ci.davenport.ia.us to book a park shelter today! In keeping with the advances of online resources, we are thrilled to continue receiving community feedback through growing electronic platforms. When seeking input on two new park playgrounds this past year, the civic response helped lead our decision process. We even received some ‘playful’ recommendations from our most astute park users, local Davenport students! We encourage you and your families to check out the new playgrounds installed at Garfield and Northwest Parks. Another great online offering has come for our 3 municipal golf courses. Golfers can now reserve their tee-times online, as well as purchase E-Gift Cards at www.GolfDavenport.com! To celebrate, we are offering a $5 gift card coupon using the code SUMMERSIZZLE2018 as well as a free bucket of balls coupon on page 2. We are pleased to announce that fundraising for the Miracle Field of the Quad Cities is in the home stretch! We have currently raised over $635,000 of the one million dollar goal needed to complete the adaptive field. Donations are still being accepted, and even small change can make big miracles happen! Help us cross home plate, donate today at bit.ly/MiracleFieldoftheQC. Junior Theatre deserves another round of applause for their updates to restore Mary Fluhrer-Nighswander Theatre. The restoration project helped return the theatre to its original luster, while adding modern conveniences in new seating, carpeting and ADA access! These updates will help us serve kids for decades to come, creating theatre for kids, by kids as they learn to communicate clearly, confidently and creatively! To read more on the updates and to see before and after pictures of the renovation, checkout page 52. Davenport Youth Sports, previously known as Dads Club Youth Sports, has been a great addition to our family of programs. This program has been fundamental in defining the culture of youth sports in our community and we are excited to maintain the same principles of sportsmanship and inclusion. Our department is continually pushing innovation and trying to progress our services and offering to engage our citizens where they are! With all of the resources in this guide, it will hopefully make for another healthy and vibrant Summer in Davenport!

Sincerely,

Scott Hock

Director of Davenport Parks and Recreation
