DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

Fall Fun and Winter Events Season Davenport Parks and Recreation is all about fun – to keep the fun going, we work hard to ensure that every new playground, every exciting program offering, every rewarding recreation event is developed through an extensive amount of collaborative planning. This all begins by receiving input from our residents about their needs. Whether you are e-mailing us your comments, responding to one of our participant surveys, or filling out our online ‘First Impressions’ questionnaires about one of our parks, we collect feedback to make our offerings better for you. Not only do we welcome your input, we need it in order to do our job! We have several construction improvements that everyone should check out. First is a face-lift to our top rated skate park at Centennial Park, which included 70 concrete patches, 600 linear feet of crack repairs, and two new grind rails. Another completed project was our accessible seating added to the ice arena at The River’s Edge. This new expansion includes two lifts and adds 10 additional accessible seats. We have also seen some great improvements to the Children’s Learning Center at Fejervary Park. These include an interactive play area made possible by a grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation and a new entrance built by students at Davenport West High School. Davenport Youth Sports, previously known as Dads Club Youth Sports, has been a great addition to our family of programs as well. Dads Club has been fundamental in defining the culture of youth sports in our community and we are excited to maintain the same principles of sportsmanship and inclusion. Please check out some of our great offerings in the youth sports section of this catalog. Junior Theatre Inc. deserves a standing ovation for raising over $140,000 to help renovate Nighswander Theatre. Along with dollars from the City’s Capital Improvement Funds we will be installing new seats, carpet, and much more! These updates will help assure that we will serve kids for decades to come, creating theatre for kids, by kids as they learn to communicate clearly, confidently and creatively! Up on deck is the next phase of the Miracle Field of the Quad Cities, which has reached just over %50 of the funds needed to build the field. Once funding is in place, The Miracle Field will allow Quad City athletes, regardless of ability, the opportunity to play America’s pastime. Please check out page 5 for more information on the Miracle Field. Parks and Recreation is where fun meets hard work, so we can continue our mission of enriching the community through rewarding experiences, appealing destinations and responsible stewardship. Sincerely, Scott Hock Director of Davenport Parks and Recreation
