THE ORCHARD THEATRE RELEASES NUDE CALENDAR INSPIRED BY THE CALENDAR GIRLS Inspired by the real Calendar Girls, the team at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, have created their very own charity calendar to raise money for Bloodwise. To celebrate Calendar Girls the Musical coming to Dartford in March, staff, volunteers and even members of the theatre’s award-winning choir stripped off for this special photoshoot with photographer Fiona Bond. The calendar features pictures taken around the theatre starring the people who work at the venue each day, from the front of house staff to the backstage technical team. The group follow in the footsteps of the Rylstone and District Women’s Institute almost 20 years after the alternative calendar was first launched. It has since raised almost £5 million for Bloodwise, the UK’s specialist blood cancer charity. Blood cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the UK and the third biggest cause of UK cancer deaths – taking more lives each year than breast or prostate cancer. Even for those who survive, the long-term effects of treatment can be devastating. Jamie Leadbeatter, Sales & Marketing Manager for the theatre, led the project. He said: “Everyone at the venue was excited for the show and we have a lot of fans of the film so I thought it would be a good idea. It is a great way to make money for charity as well as shouting about this brilliant show coming to Dartford.” 6

“I’m so proud of everyone who took part for being brave and baring all! I’m impressed with the results thanks to our fantastic local photographer, Fiona Bond. We also need to extend our thanks to Adverset who did the design for the calendar free of charge. Everyone involved has been very generous and supportive.” The calendar will be on sale directly from The Orchard Theatre’s website at 8am on Friday 7 December. Only a limited run of 250 calendars are available. It lands just a few months before Calendar Girls the Musical comes to Dartford, starring Fern Britton, Anna-Jane Casey, Sara Crowe, Karen Dunbar, Ruth Madoc, Rebecca Storm and Denise Welch. Created by Take That’s Gary Barlow and Olivier Award-winning writer Tim Firth, the production has been touring the UK since August to rave reviews. Calendar Girls the Musical will be at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, from Tuesday 5 to Saturday 16 March 2019. To purchase your very own calendar or to book tickets for Calendar Girls the Musical, visit orchardtheatre.co.uk or call the Ticket Office on 01322 220000.

LOCAL ATTRACTION LEEDS CASTLE - CELEBRATING 900 YEARS by Annabelle Jain This year Leeds Castle turns 900 and to celebrate there is an exceptional programme of events reflecting nine centuries of history and heritage, dating back to 1119 when Robert de Crevecoeur built the first stone castle on the estate.

Dartford Living had the opportunity to visit Leeds Castle and it truly is an amazing day out for the whole family. In addition to the beautiful Castle itself and learning about its history there are wonderful grounds to explore, whether by foot or by the castle train. For children and adults alike there is plenty of outdoor space with a maze, numerous gardens and many options of places to eat or grab a drink.

The brilliant thing about Leeds Castle tickets is that they are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase so even if you don’t get chance to see everything you can go back and visit again and again. Equally this allows ticket holders the opportunity to make the most of the vast array of events on offer through out the year. For more information and prices please visit the website; www.leeds-castle.com. Leeds Castle is located near Maidstone in Kent just off Junction 8 of the M20 and only one-hour’s drive from London. Grounds open at 10am Look out for a commemorative 900 gin (move quickly there daily and the Castle is open from 10.30am. is a limited run when it comes out this month), medieval jousting, story writing competitions, the opening of the new Knights’ Stronghold Playground and Adventure Golf Course and an incredible ‘Carnival of History’ later in July.

LOCAL ATTRACTION DINOTROPOLIS, BLUEWATER by Annabelle Jain

Dartford Living was lucky enough to visit the newly guns and obviously the kids thought that was brilliant. opened Dinotropolis at Bluewater. For some of the more adventurous kids there is also the On arriving inside we spotted some brilliant roaring and Raptor Racing Run and Dino escape challenge but our moving dinosaurs. You can get so close you can literally kids were too interested in the other options on offer see them “breathing”. In fact they were so realistic that to try them. our 2 year old swiftly burst into tears! He soon got over it though and he couldn’t wait to get stuck in when we found ourself in the Discovery Cove. This is an area where kids can colour in a dinosaur before watching it come to life on the screen. Both the kids loved seeing their artwork come to life and it is a really fun feature which isn’t something I’ve seen many other places before.

Also in the Discovery Cove was one of my favourite things - the sand table. As you are playing in the sandpit the landscape projected onto the top of the sand actually changes to reflect what you are doing. So, if you dig, a lake will appear and as you fill it up the water will empty and eventually you will create hills. If you build up enough you will eventually get a volcano! Whilst Discovery Cove was my favourite area the kids favourite was definitely the massive multi-story jurassic themed soft play area. There was an area for younger kids (18 months to 3 years) containing the usual kind of soft play stuff so a ball pit, slide, stackable blocks etc. Above and around the toddler area and designed more for the over 3’s (though our 2 year old happily went round too) was a big area with bridges, slides and things to climb on. Although very similar to a lot of soft play all of the equipment was in keeping with the dinosaur theme and (possibly because it has not long open) was really clean and well kept. One thing which most soft plays don’t have is an area where you can shoot balls out of air pressure

This is definitely a great place to try out. Our kids loved it although obviously for 1.5 hours some might not feel it offers the greatest value for money but to be honest price wise it works out pretty much the same as a family trip to the cinema but for way more interaction and active fun for the kids. It’s important to note though that each adult accompanying a child does have to pay £5. Even though this does include a free hot drink in the Fossil cafe it can mean the cost can quickly add up. Tickets for Dinotropolis start from £12 for an Explorer Pass that gives full access to Dino Jungle, Raptor Racing Run and the Discovery Cove. The Discovery Pass includes everything from the Explorer plus the Dino escape challenge for £15 and the all-inclusive Ranger Pass for £20 includes a meal deal in the Fossil cafe.

SANTA’S HOUSE

by Jeremy Kite MBE, Leader Dartford Borough Council Meeting Santa Claus is a big deal when you’re a kid. I know because I remember it from my own childhood. In fact, a photo of me sitting on the Santa’s knee in Dartford Co-op from around 1970 has been kept and treasured when other family mementos have been lost. Dartford Council loves helping families make memories at Christmas and over the years we’ve added more and more Christmas events . If the feedback we receive is anything to go by it’s clear that local residents love them. This year, three events in particular seem to have caught the Christmas spirit. 2018 marked the ninth year of our outdoor Carols in the Park and the free tickets were snapped up within days. It’s a lovely, traditional carol service with hundreds of local people wrapped up against the chilly evening singing along to the best loved carols. We’ve also organised Santa on Tour ( working with our brilliant partners Dartford Living and the Dartford Lions Club ) to bring Santa and his illuminated fire engine and And then there’s Santa’s House! Christmas experiences that are simply beyond the financial reach of many families. So, rather than see some children miss out on the lifelong-memory of a visit to Santa for one day each December Acacia House, one of Dartford’s finest buildings, hosts Father Christmas, his helpers, elves, postroom staff, official North Pole magician and a few hundred children. It’s no fleeting visit either. Lucky kids spend an hour moving through room after room of entertainment, activities, food and fun before reaching Santa’s busy postroom and finally, a private audience with the man himself. We try to make Christmas an extra special time for Dartford and make some of those family memories that last a lifetime. Thank you to everyone who helped us make it happen.

LOCAL BUSINESS - RESOURCE ON DEMAND

WHY GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY IS CRITICAL FOR DARTFORD AWARD WINNING BUSINESSES by Theresa Durrant - Resource on Demand It has been ten years since we first set up Resource on Demand our technology recruitment company in Dartford. Our grandiose, vision of having swanky high-tech offices, equipped with games and beanbags for employees, hasn't quite materialised; yet. But should it? Thinking back on why we went into business in the first place, a risky move that often kept us awake at night, it was all about making a difference, and yet somehow our business plan didn't reflect that.

runners up in the Contribution to the Community Dartford Instead, it mapped out, how quickly we could take on our Business Award 2018 and winners of the Best Owner first employee (an incredibly scary prospect in itself), then Managed Business too. how quickly we could move into an office, and scale up to ten or twenty people. A stressful time. As Founders of Resource On Demand, we have always been great believers that the mind and body are all Ironically how we ‘managed’ our stress enabled us to connected, and that exercise is good for the soul and discover our passion for helping our community and our overall wellbeing. learning many life and business lessons along the way. Exercise releases those good chemicals, endorphins. So The culmination of which has recently led to us being even when we were extremely stressed, we managed to overcome it with a quick jog or a long hike; and yes, the occasional odd glass of wine too! Being clearly goal orientated people, after a while, a jog or a hike didn't quite cut it. What were we aiming for? And then the idea struck, let's do something for charity. We can beat stress and raise money at the same time and 'bingo' our need for a goal took care of itself. And so, we took the first dip into what has now become our passion and commitment for serving the community. What has surprised us the most, is that what we have received back, far outweighs our expectations. Over the years we have baked cakes; we have run 5ks and 10ks and even marathons; we have hiked a 100km in a day and climbed mountains; we have helped build nurseries for people with disabilities; we've volunteered in a winter homeless shelter and donated to local schools to help against budget cuts. In fact, looking back our Resource on Demand (ROD) family has been truly amazing! 14

A lot. for their own families too. It taught us that a swanky office means very little, in comparison to having a respectful working environment and culture where people can feel valued and recognised for their hard work.

Our plans for ROD might still be grandiose, and yes, we still may want those bean bags or the next high-tech gadget, but for us at least, we'll always strive to give back more than we receive.

It's taught us that making a difference is far more important than having bean bags to lounge in at lunchtime and that giving to charity and providing fee reductions in our services for not-for-profit organisations was far more enjoyable for both Lee and I and our team. It’s also taught us that with the right help and support (and the right attitude of course), that we can all be 'someone', which is not only reflected in the way we manage and support employees through coaching and training, but why we are now thinking of extending this to our clients and customers too. Our ROD foundation endeavours keep us grounded and aware of what is happening in the community around us and where as a business we can make a true difference through volunteering and contribution. It’s encouraged us to create jobs locally, such as with

RESTAURANT REVIEW: DELICIOUS TURKISH FOOD WITHOUT THE NEED TO TRAVEL INTO LONDON

by Dartford Living’s Vijay and Dartford Living’s Dave

Whilst DL’s Vijay has been visiting Efes since they opened lot since then. Efes is part of a well established chain of in March, DL’s Dave had never visited before, so we decided successful restaurants in London and the Dartford Efes to pop down together for a DL team lunch! combines that modern London feel whilst referencing the local area in the numerous photographs of the town If you’ve never visited before you are bound to be impressed and its history. by the decor. Some of you may remember the building as the old Paper Moon pub however it has changed a So if you love Turkish, Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food then you will love what’s on offer at Efes. From succulent grilled meat to tasty pides (a Turkish flatbread similar to a pizza) to fabulous salads, there really is something for any taste. For pescatarians like Vijay there are plenty of veggie and fish options. If you are a ‘mange tout’ type of person like Dave then there are also plenty of meaty options! If you are looking for interesting and different delicacies to try you could always try a Turkish coffee or a turnip juice. If you visit on a Friday or Saturday night then you get that fantastic busy restaurant atmosphere however If you are looking for a nice peaceful meal with a friend then you can not go wrong with a lunch time. In fact at lunch time you can munch your way through 3 courses for just £9.50. You read that right - we worked our way through 3 courses for just £9.50 each... and we were not surprisingly stuffed 18

LIFE UNDER THE STAIRS by Local Resident, Jane Stevenson GOODBYE 2018 I’m not sad to see the end of 2018. For a number of reasons, it was a particularly difficult year for the folk at Stevenson Towers. Human accidents and feline illness, canine attacks, and major changes to family life all took place last year. I was chatting to a friend some months ago, bemoaning the fact that another friend’s marriage had ended suddenly with no prior indications. Friend opined that “it’s this year. 2018 is a year of change.”

Nostradamus an intelligent con man, while others believed every word. I did peek at his 2019 predictions, but they were too gloomy and fairly repetitive. More extreme weather, more war, and little in the way of good luck, prosperity and a peaceful life. Social media doesn’t help. Local site comments often end up being the target of malicious and nasty replies, argument and vitriol. Everyone is entitled to an opinion – it is not right or wrong, simply your belief which you should be able to share regardless of whether it offends or commends.

That got me thinking. RECIPE BANANA MINI MUFFINS by Debbie Dickinson Another great recipe for making with kids and perfect for lunchboxes. These freeze perfectly so a batch could last a while (although they’ll probably be eaten before they get anywhere near the freezer!) This recipe makes about 30 mini muffins, or can be made using standard cupcake cases or in a loaf tin – you will just need to adjust the cooking times. You will need: Mini muffin tins and paper cases. 125g self-raising flour 50g raisins or sultanas A pinch of salt ½ tsp baking powder 50g caster sugar 50g unsalted butter at room temperature 1 egg ½ tsp vanilla extract 250g whole bananas (about 2 small ones)

What to do: Preheat your oven to 170°C (160° fan oven). Sift the flour, salt and baking powder together into a large mixing bowl. Add the sugar and butter and rub it in with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs. In another bowl, whisk the egg with the vanilla extract. Add the bananas and mash with a fork well. Mix in the raisins. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the banana mix. Bring everything together gently. Place a spoonful into each paper case and bake in the oven for 10-15 mins until they turn a beautiful golden colour. Leave in the tray for 5 minutes, then carefully transfer onto a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy x

TRAVEL SPOTLIGHT JET2 HOLIDAYS

by Tim Harden

Travel Spotlight – January 2019 Supplier Focus – Jet2Holidays Happy New Year everybody! It’s that slightly sad time when the decorations come down and everything looks a little grey and depressing. So come and see us to book yourself a holiday! That always makes January more bearable.

in association with

I thought I’d share with you some of the key take-away messages from CEO Steve Heapy’s main presentation. The company has had strong year on year growth and solid financial position, with an average growth of 28% per year for the past 5 years. Now the second largest tour operator in the UK, carrying more passengers than 3rd place Thomas Cook & 4th place On The Beach combined. “We are a financially robust company – you have seen our accounts. Compare them with our competitors and you will see we are in a strong position,” he confidently adds. “But we also offer award-winning customer service and are always improving it – you have to. We think we have the right strategy of providing great customer service for people. If you do that, they come back.” Steve Heapy also attributed the growth to the strong, basic product they offer and promised to continue keeping it simple. All holidays include 22kg luggage, resort transfers and reps in resort. They have additional benefits such as £60 deposits and flexible holiday durations, so you can travel for 8 days, or 12 days, or any duration that works best for you.

This month I’m going to be focusing on one of our favourite suppliers - Jet2Holidays. I was very fortunate to be one of the 270 independent travel agents invited to their annual VIP conference in Belek, Turkey. The event was held over 3 nights at the 5* Gloria Golf Resort and involved presentations, entertainment and culminated They are also expanding their resort check-in facility, giving in a gala awards dinner. you extra time to enjoy yourselves at the hotel on the last day of your holiday without lugging suitcases around. Heapy expressed what an investment this represented to the company, but that it’s success meant they would invest further and extend the facility for 4 more destinations. There are now 13 destinations where this is available, and is now featured in Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol, Costa de Almeria, Costa Brava (Girona), Majorca, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Faro (Algarve), Madeira, and Cyprus (Larnaca & Paphos).

The celebrity guest was Martin Kemp, who was present for the whole duration and really entered into the fun spirit of the event. He gave a Q&A session, was a judge for ‘Jet2Holidays Got Talent’ and performed a DJ set in the nightclub. I think everyone came away thinking he is such a lovely man.

From Stansted there will be an increase in capacity of 18% with an increase in the number of flights to almost all their destinations. He also talked of the growth not only in passenger numbers but in destinations offered. From Stansted there are three new routes for 2019 Bourgas (Bulgaria), Chania (Crete) and Izmir (Turkey). Steve Heapy said: “We are extremely excited about our Summer 19 programme from London Stansted Airport, which is our biggest and best to date. In just our third summer of operation at London Stansted, we will have 36 destinations and over 1.7 million seats on sale, making this our third biggest base.”

Importantly though, the agents attending the event were able to spend time networking with hoteliers and suppliers, building industry knowledge and relationships. There’s lots to look forward to in the New Year. Remember 26

BIP BOP BLOG

by Charlotte Wise

Happy New Year! Everyone! I hope you had a lovely Christmas! And hope you like the new sparkly looking blog! Often January can feel a bit miserable - the festivities are over, we’ve eaten too much, it’s the longest month ever and it’s still freezing cold. My little boy starts preschool 2 days a week this year which is great to give me more time to work but equally it’s made me more emotional than ever as he’s just growing up too fast! Whose resolutions are already out the window? I wanted to give up chocolate but it hasn’t really happened, especially as there is still so much still in the house - it needs to be eaten! Instead, I’ve been thinking of ways that could help kick start 2019 in a more positive way and I thought I would share my top 5...

strange but if you’ve spent all of the latter part of last year enjoying a Christmas cuppa from your favourite mug, apparently you are more likely to feel more motivated when you change your mug in the new year. With a recent study also suggesting that the colour of your mug can influence your perception of how your drink tastes (dark mugs = stronger bitter tastes and light mugs = sweeter 1) Early Spring clean. Taking down those decorations can taste) It’s fascinating just how much we can be influenced be depressing but finding new homes for your pressies from our cup of choice! and donating your now old things to charity can be really rewarding. There are so many fantastic charities featured 4) January Sales. Taking advantage of the January sales in this magazine such as Elenor. In addition, for mums with could mean getting your Christmas shopping done little ones, nearly news sales such as Mum2Mum Markets now so you don’t have to worry for later this year! (And are always a good way of earning some extra cash! don’t forget to bag some bargains from the small local businesses too!) 5) Change your routine and try something new. A new year, a new you as they say! Over the coming months, I shall be writing my thoughts and ideas of things to do for parents and children in and around Dartford so if you’re looking for new things to try in our local area, stay tuned for next month’s blog! Wishing you a happy and positive start to 2019! Until next time, 2) Write a to do list. Jotting down your resolutions or just your every day tasks, even if it’s things you’ve already done. It is so satisfying to tick things off afterwards to help give that feeling of accomplishment. 3) Change your coffee/tea mug. I know this one sounds

TAKE THAT INTERVIEW By Vicky Edwards

There are worse ways to spend a Saturday afternoon than in a dressing room with one of the greatest boy bands of all time. Vicky Edwards draws the long straw and pops in on Take That’s Gary, Howard and Mark for a chat about the runaway success of their musical The Band, as well as discovering which of them steals chocolate from their children… Gary, Mark and Howard don’t mind admitting that right now they are extremely proud producers. Joined by Robbie Williams, and along with David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers, two of the most experienced and well-regarded theatrical producers in the land, the boys find themselves at the helm of a new musical that wins fans wherever it goes and that has extended its tour – including a West End run – due to demand for tickets.

their heroes. Sipping his tea Gary is in thoughtful mode, pondering on why their show seems to chime with audiences to such an extent. “I think that friendship really resonates with people,” he says, adding: “Even the idea of the friendship – if you sat us down then we’d all say that friendship is what is at the heart of Take That. It has kept our work strong; we’ve been a gang. The Band is about the relationships really, not the music. You don’t need to be an avid fan, but Tim [Firth - writer] has so cleverly woven our music into a parallel universe. Whenever I see it I leave happy.” He’s got a point. Few shows succeed in sending you out quite so elated; dancing all the way home, with love for the special people in your life utterly reaffirmed.

Agreeing that it reinforces their hunch that this would be a show people would fall in love with, a beaming Howard Mark dunks a chocolate digestive into his tea and picks gets in first to express delight. up Gary’s thread. “It is incredible to say we’re coming to London and touring until March next year – the longevity is brilliant! The key to its success is familiarity; it strikes a chord with people’s lives by being a reflection for anyone who has ever been a fan or a supporter, or anyone who has had a group of friends and known love, friendship and loss. “The only let down is that the music is crap,” he jokes, referring to the Take That hits that provide The Band’s soundtrack. “We are made up that people are connecting with the show and enjoying it so much,” says Mark Owen. “Sometimes I feel a bit guilty for the young guys who won the competition [the five boys who won TV’s ‘Let it Shine’ search for the musical’s title roles] because I don’t think they knew just how much work was involved. But I guess it’s a dream for them and I am made up for them, too.” “Absolutely!” echoes Gary Barlow, delight written all over his handsome face. “I don’t think we could have imagined the pride we would feel every time The Band goes into a new city.”

“It brought me back to when I was a teenager knocking about with my mates and the dreams that I had then. It made me contact old friends after I saw it. People slip from us as we get busy with life, but the show made me reminisce. It was like a pause button.” With a naughty grin he adds: “Oh yeah, and it’s got these amazing songs in it!” And don’t be thinking that The Band is a show that only ladies or die-hard Take That fans will enjoy. Howard is adamant on that point: “Listen, while guys might be sceptical about coming to see the show, it IS relevant to them too. Whether they like the music or not, they will thoroughly enjoy the show,” he promises.

To be clear, the show is not about Take That. Instead The Band tells the story of a group of 16 year-old friends for whom in 1992, ‘the band’ – a non-specified five-strong As for mentoring the phenomenally talented young bucks group – is everything. 25 years on, the now 40-something who collectively play the title role, Howard confesses that women reunite in a quest to fulfil their dream of meeting as well as enjoying being a guru to AJ, Curtis, Nick, Sario 32

and Yazdan, it is not a role he ever envisaged himself in. “I never envisaged being a pop star let alone a producer – I was on a YTS training scheme to be a vehicle painter and panel beater when I joined Take That, but luckily we had the right people behind us. The lads [of The Band] are really down to earth, which is how we formed our friendship, how we grew up as a group and how we can now regroup. Who knows; maybe Jason will come back one day? We’re not looking at it like that, but that we have all matured and stayed mates means that there is always possibility.” “I’ve enjoyed the mentoring more than anything,” agrees Mark. “You feel like a father to his son and we had sit-down talks about looking after each other and about going out into the world! It has been a real pleasure. Their energy is really positive and so they inspire us. It really does work both ways.”

airline,” he amends. “I remember that on my wall I had pictures of cars. Weird! I didn’t start getting into girls until I was 16; I was a late starter. But I made up for it!” “I was quite into football so Pelé, Maradona and Liverpool players were my pin-ups. Music wise it was Madonna and Elvis,” recalls Mark. “I loved Elvis and grew up listening to him because mum was a big fan. I used to put lard in my hair and sing Elvis songs – mum went mad with me!” Admitting to being obsessed with music from the of 10, spending hours on end in front of a piano and a synthesizer, Gary’s bedroom wall paid homage to the likes of Adam Ant, The Human League and Depeche Mode.

“I am so grateful that I had music and singing lessons from early on. They have been the foundation for a long career; the building blocks. The time when you have no family or work pressures is the time to really learn and The show sees the older women looking back at their I did, thank God.” younger selves and I’m curious to know what advice, with the benefit of hindsight, the trio would give themselves So what next for The Band – a second tour? at, say, sixteen. Gary doesn’t need time to think. Gary gives me an enigmatic smile. “We have plans because The Band is a musical that we believe in so much. By no “I’d say grab it and enjoy this moment right now. It sounds means have we reached our goal” he teases. so corny but this young cast are at such an amazing time in their lives, but they may have some tough years I’ll be watching this space. Whatever they aim for, I’ll bet ahead. It’s so important to enjoy the here and now. We Take That match the action to their name. give ourselves a pep talk now and again, especially before tours,” he tells me, nodding in response to my suggestion that the adage of ‘with age comes experience’ is a truism and that becoming complacent with success and all its trimmings simply isn’t an option. With absolute sincerity he adds: “We really do appreciate all that we have.” “Yeah, I’d say much the same,” Howard concurs. “I’d definitely advise my younger self to take it all in and enjoy it, although that can be easier said than done. We were literally lifted off our feet and for six years we had no time for girlfriends and family. I have kids and I am so lucky that I have a job that means that I can usually be with them all day long and just go off on tour now and again.” “What would I say to my younger self?” Mark muses, before laughing and saying: “A lot! I’d probably have a big sit-down with myself! But mostly I’d say just embrace it all; the ups and downs and left and rights. Oh, and don’t have that first fag; don’t start smoking. My thing is chocolate now. Don’t tell anyone but I did eat some of my children’s Easter Eggs this year.” Harking back to their teen years makes them recall what was going on for them then. “I so wanted to be a pilot,” sighs Howard. “I’ve still got a dream of flying a plane, although maybe not a commercial www.dartfordlivinglive.co.uk - www.dartfordliving.com - www.dartfordbusinessdirectory.co.uk

A year is a long time and sometimes just the thought of how far we have to go is enough to put us off. Perhaps if we break down the resolutions into manageable chunks, they would be more achievable. How about setting yourself a monthly challenge instead?

BAV’S SPORTING COMMENT UEFA announced last month that Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be used in the Champions League and Europa League from this season, where it was previously scheduled to be used from next season. VAR will also be used next year at the Nations Leagues finals and in the finals of the European Under-21 Championship. VAR was used at the 2018 World Cup and will be introduced Upcoming events in January include: in the Premier League for the 2019-20 campaign. 4-7 Football - FA Cup Third Round Weekend So, does VAR stop managers moaning? There are those managers who love the diversionary tactic of blaming 13-20: Snooker - Masters, Alexandra Palace officials to take the focus away from the performance of their team. Surely, VAR will help put a stop to that? 14-27: Tennis - Australian Open, Melbourne VAR has been operational in the MLS (Major League Soccer 24-27 - Motorsport - Rallye Monte Carlo in the United States) for nearly two years, where they have had well over 1,000 goals this season and have worked out that only three should have been disallowed. So there is a reassurance that if a goal is scored, it is going to get checked, and if there is a clear error that will be dealt with, so that has to give people comfort that it will get rectified. There will still be some criticism because it won’t always arrive at the outcome some people want because of subjectivity... so perhaps it won’t stop all moaning!
