About the performance
Forest Stages – Revisited is a performance installation by Institute of Interconnected Realities (I—IR) that reflects upon a meeting with a forest that took place on the Island of Møn in Southern Denmark between January and August 2024.
This November, the I—IR is revisiting the performance at Dansehallerne. Forest Stages – Revisited is a documentation of the meeting with the forest as well as an event where emotional, physical, and cultural landscapes of the audience’s imagination are invoked.
Over the duration of the original artistic process, all materials including text, sound, choreography, and the performer’s practice were composed on-site. By bringing Forest Stages into the curated environment of Dansehallerne the I—IR asks themselves what emerges when there are no trees, no soft forest floor, no insect bites, when the birds singing and the bees buzzing is only playback, when the roots have been disconnected from the soil and become scenography? What of the forest remains inscribed in the performing bodies? What do they carry with them?

The audience is invited to lie back and compose the context of the uncanny denizens of the invisible forest; to encounter the beauty, the horror, to practice directionlessness, to get thoroughly lost.
With Forest Stages – Revisited, the I—IR investigates the theater’s role as an archive of human experience and how it can form a resistance to the depletion of imagination.
About the Artists
The Institute of Interconnected Realities (I—IR) is influenced by the eco-inspired concept of Decentralized Choreography. The implication of this term is that the choreographic event unfolds in multiple centers simultaneously none of which are more important than the others. Occupied with ‘place-thought’ in the last years, the I—IR has been deeply engaged in a variety of natural environments. Their work and research unfold in dialogue with these places that have included a former quarry in Roskilde, a natural grazing land in National Park Thy, and a forest at Møn.
The artistic directors of the I—IR are:
Ida-Elisabeth Larsen – choreographer, dancer and dance-dramaturge. She graduated from SEAD in 2007 and continued to supplement her education with a BA in Philosophy and Performance Design from Roskilde University and an MA in ”Ecology and Contemporary Performance” at TeaK-University of the Arts Helsinki.
Marie-Louise Stentebjerg – performer, dancer, and choreographer. She graduated from SEAD in 2005.

About Dansehallerne Important!
Dansehallerne is a national center for dance and choreography. Our focus lies in presenting and co-producing Danish and international productions for all ages. We are a gathering point for passionate dance audiences and professionals. From our center, we communicate professional knowledge of the art of dance, and we drive discussions about all aspects of the art of dance, at an intermediate level and in-depth.
I—IR is bringing the experience of the forest to Dansehallerne. This somewhat includes the current temperature of the forest. Please expect Hallen to be a rather cold venue. Dress warmly and consider keeping your outerwear on during the performance.
Being a national center, as well as a gathering point for the local and international communities, we continuously work to ensure the best possible settings for artistic production and for the audience’s encounter with the art of dance. Every year, people from all around the country can experience the best that dance has to offer. And for several hundred artists, Dansehallerne is the yearround base and interface for professional activities within the field of dance.
